funny thing, i was never much into reading. but now that I'm saved i can't get enough of it. any good suggestions for someone who is new to Christianity but completely devoted? I'm looking for something that will help me grow, but also give me the tools to minister to others. I'm hoping that God will lead me into ministry in the future. any help is much appreciated.

I found 4 books to be really helpful.

1. A Case for Christ - does a good job of laying out the evidence of the historical aspects of Christianity. I wish someone would have told me there was evidence for all this 10 years ago!

2. The Barbarian Way - Showed me that I don't have to be Ned Flanders to be a Christian, it really shifted the way I look (and interact) with God.

3. Letters from a Skeptic - a series of letters from a Father (atheist) to his son (former atheist). Tackles a lot of the common arguments against Christianity.

4. Mere Christianity - CS Lewis at his best, exploring what it means at the core to be a Christian. Good stuff.

The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer, actually anything by A.W. Tozer

Anything by C.H. Spurgeon

Desiring God by John Piper

Spiritual Disciplines For the Christian Life by Donald S. Whitney

The Complete Works of E. M. Bounds on Prayer

Knowing God by J.I. Packer

Anything by Andrew Murray

Answers to Prayer by George Meuller

The Attributes of God by Arthur Pink

My suggestion is to read the classics because they have stood the test of time. A lot of the fluff in the Christian bookstores today is just that fluff.

How to Be a Christian Without Being Religious, by Fritz Ridenour.

Also a book by Hal Lindsey called The Liberation of Planet Earth.

The first one is a Bible study on Romans which explains the Gospel in down-to-earth language. The second is about the saving work of Christ.

I also recommend a missionary biography called Bruchko.

They Speak with Other Tongues is a title, by John Sherill, I think, or The Spirit Comes as part of the package by John Leach. Then there's Disciple by Juan Carlos Ortiz (I read the 1975 version, but there is a similar title with a 1995 version).

Great post

I was thinking about this subject yesterday.

The book that helped me was Sit, Walk Stand by Watchman Nee

1) Basic Christianity by John Stott

2) The Holiness of God by RC Sproul

3) What's So Great About Christianity by Denesh D Souza

The first two got me caused me to take it all seriously. Holiness Of God got me to my knees.
All are loaded with valuable info a new christian needs to know. Have used D Souza's book several times in defending the faith. Oh one more

4) Handbook of Christian Apologetics by Kreeft and Tacelli

Anything by Max Lucado. If you can start with "Traveling Light" I is a break down of Psalm 23.

I agree, I love Lucado. He has a way about him, and his writing.

I am reading Bondage Breaker right now by Neil T Anderson. It has been a real eye opener for me.

I second #2 above and recommend almost anything by him.

Ditto on this list, great stuff.

I would definitely recommend Finish Strong by Dan Green. A truly inspiring read, I loved it so much. :)
