i have a good friend at work who is a fellow christian. she seems perfectly normal in everyway and she is strong in the Lord. recently i was sharing a trouble that my wife has been having with her and she suggested that we learn to speak in tongues. it caught me kind of off guard, because i don't know anything about it. my wife and i go to Calvary Chapel Spring Valley here in Las Vegas, and that's not something we practice in our church. if anyone can explain what speaking in tongues is all about, i would appreciate it. I really don't want to lead my wife into something unbiblical, but if it will help her and glorify God, then i'm all for it! Blessings to you all!

I am surprised. CC is a pentecostal denomination. You should ask your pastor.

I went to one on the east coast with pastor Randy Cahill and it was non-denominational. Speaking in tongues is one of many spiritual gifts given by the Holy Spirit. read I Corinthians chapter 12 to 15. it explains the gifts of the Spirit.

I don't think it is something we can learn to do on our own. It is a gift given to certain people. If you don't have it, you don't have it.

It is not essential to speak in tongues for God to help you or your wife with whatever troubles you may have. Some people speak in tongues. Others don't. God loves and cares for everyone regardless of whether they speak in tongues or not. Just pray in your own words, tell God what is troubling you and your wife. Trust Him and He will help you. God bless.
