Feeling spiritual down. Feeling dead and dry. How do I overcome this?

cwb -> RE: Spiritually Down (11/6/2009 8:20:49 PM)

If you don't eat food, your flesh will die.

If you don't eat spiritual food, the Holy Spirit in you dies (or leaves, where it can get fed).

Have you taken spiritual food today?

Spiritual poison is not good for the Holy Spirit within. This is NEWS - of evil, death, economy, disease, etc. This garbage does not make the Holy Spirit grow.

The Word is good for the Spirit.

In Malachi 3:7b there is this verse "Return to Me, and I will return to you, says the LORD Almighty." Return to the study of God`s Word. If God through His Word and His Spirit reveals that there may be sin in your life, please deal with it. Sin will keep you from the Bible, or the Bible will keep you from sin. [sm=icon_smile_question.gif] Which will it be in your life?

When spiritually down, these are my favourite verses from 1 John 5:4+5. "for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God."

I find that certain times of the year, things just feel more gloomy in general. November has always been a particularly dreary month for me. Largely due to the loss of daylight savings time and the return of the cold weather.

Adding to that, there is a lot of bad news still going around in 2009. We are living in some of the toughest times many of us have ever experienced. Now is a good time to enjoy the little things.

Keep your focus on the LORD.
Don't replay your problems in your mind,
instead meditate on God's Word, it will lift your spirit.
Talk to God all throughout your day.
(Remember, He is always with you!)
Like David, encourage yourself in the LORD.
Bless, give thanks, and praise the LORD no matter
what you face each day. Surrender to His Will and His
Purposes for your life.
Psalm 34
1I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

2My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

3O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

4I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

5They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

6This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

7The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

8O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

9O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

10The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

11Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

12What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?

13Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

14Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

15The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

16The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

17The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

18The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

19Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

20He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

21Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.

22The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

(God bless and keep you.)

Cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Sit down and make a list of all that God has blessed you with, starting with your salvation. After you do this, meditate on His goodness to you day and night; thanking Him until your spiritual depression lifts (and I promise you it will flee as you begin to praise Him for all He has done for you).

1 "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever." -Psalm 136

Walking through the valley of the shadow of death is not an encouraging, uplifting experience.

Sometimes folks think that Christianity is all positively upbeat. Jesus Himself is proven by Scripture to have periods of anguish, sorrow and at least a deep sense of isolation from God (on the cross).

I pray for you now as I write, that God will strengthen your inner self.

I've suffered from spiritual and actual physical depression, and sometimes it is difficult to distinguish the two within yourself. There are two things that I know that have worked for me.

1. Standing on the Bible that teaches that God knows who are His, that God rewards those who seek after God, and that righteousness is believing God can do what God promised. (2 foundational truths supporting the final claim)

2. Pray about everything because God has promised that He will cause the peace of God to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. This is no promise that we will get what we ask for, unless what we ask for is to be at peace with God.

I have had times where my confidence has waned, but I cannot honestly say that my faith has done so. However, my confidence in God is important to me as it is to you.

shalom.
