I am slow to do things. I have had my tallit gadol since around 1996, maybe longer, and have not worn it to shul. I keep thinking I may some day but continue to hesitate. Today, some women wear them to services without hesitation, because some no longer see them as men's clothing. Since they are not mentioned in the Bible, tallitim are open to the judgment of the congregation, in my opinion. We do have one lady where i attend who wears her tallit with her jeans. Tomorrow, just for fun, I may dress up, but no tallit gadol! I will think about dressing up, anyway.

I don't really have one. I am attending a church, and planning to become a member of this PCA church. I was christened in a Roman Catholic church. I was baptized in Southern Baptist church. I probably sat (stood, jumped, danced) through more denominations' sermons then I can count on all my and my children's fingers & toes. quote:
ORIGINAL: WhiteRoseBlessings I'm interested in hearing what denomination y'all are. I'm wondering if that plays a factor in what someone wears to church. If you feel comfortable doing so, please tell me your denomination and how you dress when you go to church (why you dress the way you do). Also if you're from the U.S., please tell me what part of the country you're from; and if you're from another country, please list that as well.

Is this discussed more in the Messianic thread? If not, do you have a particularly favorite link that discusses it so I can read about it? quote:

BTW, Abiyah, I was thinking about you a while ago as I was de-seeding a pomegranate. The inside of such fruit reminds me of a beehive . . . and as soon as I remembered that, I thought of you and your love of bees.

I will never, ever, look at a pomegranate in the same way! Thank you!! We can write about tallitim in the Theo House Messianic Fellowship thread -- you betcha. I probably should not have written anything here. Sorry!!

I thought of you and your love of bees. She likes worms too. We had to have an online worm funeral once, I seem to recall. I think we all shared what we wore in it.

After reading several thread about this subject it seems to me those that have no problem wearing jeans to church seem to display the same holier then thou attitude that they seem to think that those of us that dress up have. Every time I mention that I always wear a skirt to Church the question always comes up of if I do this for ever service. Maybe everyone needs to be careful about the the judgements they make based on what people wear to church, regardless of if they are dressing up or dressing down. But to answer the OP yes I do feel weird wearing jeans to Church. That is my personal conviction and no one should judge me for that.

Yeah, i tried to have a worm farm, but I failed quickly. Got the wrong worms, didn't do a lot of things right. I am a baaaad farmer. But no, I didn't wear jeans. That was +50 pounds ago, and I didn't own jeans yet! Agapetos, however, was a wonderful support for me in my grief. quote:

I hope we here did not come across as judgmental against you wearing a skirt. What we do and what you do should not influence any of us; we're just chatting. I don't wear skirts because I feel immodest in them, but for you, you may feel immodest in jeans. What should be my problem, and if it came across that i was unfairly judging you, that was not my intention, and I sincerely apologize. I doubt that anyone here intended to make you feel judged. Manda wears whatever's clean. The OP wears something other than jeans at least most of the time. Others wear whazt they prefer. And that is all just fine.

Oh no its not you Covaan. I have not seen that from you in your post. There are some on here that do come off as judgemental and at my old church I would always get the 'God looks at the inside' speech when people thought I was wearing a skirt to impress or something. Its not even like my skirts are supper fancy, just skirts I pick up at Khols that I think are cool. But I have a feeling that wearing a skirt, or a suit would in some churches would make some people feel just as out of places and others do when they are wearing jeans. I think people should not worry about what people wear (assuming its modest but that is not the point of this tread) regardless of if its jeans or a 3 piece suit

Sue, I have often wondered if, when I lose another 30 pounds or so more, I could wear a skirt comfortably. Perhaps I will. I am fat right now, and a skirt simply makes me feel exposed. I may be singing a different tune about modesty in skirts some day. Regardless, they are wrong to pick you out in that manner, in my opinion. Perhaps jealousy?

Well I'm not a skinny girl myself. I could probably stand to loose about 20 lbs. That was at my old church which just thought I was weird in so many ways. I did not fit the norm for what they expected of a 20-30 year old and made it clear to me at almost every turn that I was too old fashioned and should not be. I know go to a church that accepts me as I am.

Good for you, Sue! No one needs that kind of treatment.

thanks. I had about given up hope that there was a good old fashioned Church in my area until I stumbled upon it one day. It was like coming home.

In our old church, I was the youth pastor, and one of my favourite lines my wife used to say to our youth girls: "God doesn't care what kind of clothing you wear as long as there's enough of it!" Good wisdom... :)
