Someone called me a couple of days ago with some interesting information about , one of what I call, a top tier southern gospel group....or one of it's members that is. I am praying that this "rumor" is completely false and that we hear nothing else of it. No, I am not going to say what the rumor is, because if it is true then we will see the changes listed soon enough.

What I will say is that we need to stop what we are doing and say a serious prayer for the artists that are out here doing God's work. They face a lot of things while out here on the road.

Lord, I pray financial blessings on them for doing this work. I pray for supportive families of these artists and to give them peace about what they are doing while on the road. I pray for safety as they travel up and down the highways of this country (and other countries too). I pray that God will steer these artists down the right paths while they are traveling and lead them not into temptations. And finally Lord, I pray that these artists earnestly seek your face and dive deeper into your word to make them want to know more about you all the time. Lord, make it hit home that this is serious business and not a game. We are talking about saving souls from spending eternity in hell. Not just getting to sing because they're good at it and it's fun to do. Amen.

I always laugh when i see these posts that say, i heard some really startling information about a singer or a group, but i can't tell anybody about it so don't ask! LOL. Why even say that then?

But i understand you want everyone to pray for the groups.

Yet you were one of the first to go to the subject and read it.....hmmmm.

I guess I missed my point for writing it in the first place. It was to say instead of trying to spread rumors and tear this groups down, why don't we instead take a moment out of our day and pray for these artists. That is what I was trying to say.

I agree which is why I did'nt discuss the rumor. I did mention that there was A (not specific) rumor, but instead said that these guys needed our prayers. See my above post for clarification.

I think prayer is the appropriate response to any rumor situation. I will agree with you in prayer.

Why mention "some non-descript rumor" at all ... the rumor mill never needs any help.

Just remind folks to take a moment and pray for our SGM artists and groups, their families, their finances, etc.

And, I trust you scolded the rumor monger who called you and that then you hung up on him/her. If the scallywag calls me or writes me criticizing me for playing music by the "unnamed" artist, you can be sure I will post a notice here marking the scroundrel as a rumor monger.

DJ did not miss the point. He did point out and state that you wanted everyone to pray for the groups. He simply pointed out why mention something if you can't say anything about it? The question rings true, why even say that then? I'm sure you know how this works. If you make statements like this, give no specifics, and ask for prayer - everyone is going to be wondering who it is and what did they do. Then, if and when someone in the future leaves a group, everyone will be wondering if that is who you were speaking of. It just lends to more gossip and speculation. It may not be your intentions, but that is how it ends up with human nature!

I agree that the groups and artists out on the road need and covet our prayers - whenever we are serving the Lord and making a difference in ppls lives, there is bound to be attack from the adversary. Lift one another up, hold each other accountable and pray for one another!

THANK YOU for sharing your concern and I certainly can appreciate the last two lines of your original post! Our eyes should be on Him! Let's be in prayer!

Blessings!

I agree! Singers on the road (or anyone who travels to spread the gospel need our prayers!) but we should never state that we have heard a rumor or know something whether we know anything about it or not. Sometimes when we know the truth it doesn't need to be posted out for everyone to read about either! I am married into southern gospel so I feel strongly about this, whether you know facts or not are you helping someone out by spreading it or hurting them?? Prayer is the answer to everything that and letting God work out the situation! How can you expect God to work out a situation if you are already punishing the person by spreading a rumor about them? I guess you can look at it this way: If Satan is coming against the person then they must be doing something right cause if they weren't on fire for God and spreading the gospel Satan doesn't have any reason to destroy now does he? Just Pray!

You have no reason to scold David; he was pointing out the truth. The whole first paragraph of your initial post was unnecessary if your intent was to remind us that sg artists need prayer.

I do agree that all sg artists need a lot of prayer. They, like the rest of us, are not exempt from hateful and untruthful rumors. Life on the road would have to be very difficult.

I wonder if what the OP meant to say but didn't was that we shouldn't be spreading rumors in the first place. That's how I took it. If we do hear a rumor, we need to remind the tale bearer that "May he that thinks he stand beware lest he fall" but we do need to pray for our favorite groups and artists. Satan is truly "seeking whom he may devour" and the worst thing we can do is open ourselves up to being devoured and, therefore, ineffective for the Kingdom.

Ditto!

We ALL need prayer. If we are making a prayer list, put my name on there twice.

The human mind is an evil thing and can play some funny games. An innocent remark read or overheard by the wrong person could give the enemy an opportunity to plant seeds of doubt. JMO, but I would really pray about it before posting a prayer request about something "rumored" to be true.

Reminds me of a very funny story - true one and I was in it so I can tell it.

A great number of years ago there was a SGM group- the Trasher Brothers, they were going to be in Charlotte NC at the Ovens auditorium with the 'Caplain of Bourbon Street' Bob Harrington. We decided to go up for that. We got a room at the hotel right across from it. We had not been to the auditorium before and we got there early and decided to explore so we walked around the auditorium to see where the entrances were, which was closer to where we were staying, just getting the general feel of the place.

We had been travelling for a while and neither my friend or I looked our best, we had on old jeans, t-shirts, our hair pulled up (not very attractive). We walked around a corner and ran into the entire group (Thrashers) and Bob Harrington. I'd seen Bob several times before so there as not really any way to keep walking and not speak. We stopped and talked a for a bit and then said 'we have to go get dressed, hopefully we'll look better then'. They all laughed and we headed to the motel.

Later that night as we came in the door, the Thrashers and Bob were set up side by side and Bob spotted us as we went by his table. In his booming he said 'ya'll do look good dressed!' You could here the gasps from a number of older ladies.

I'm sure even though he explained what he meant there were rumors by some folks about that- folks often hear and see what they want to.

My brother-in-law, who is a preacher was at a resturant the other day and there was a waitress working that he recognized that had attended the church he used to be part of. She was taking his order as well as his friend's and he called her by name. She did not immiedatly recognize him until he told her he used to go to church with her. She then exclaimed loudly "I didn't recognize you with your clothes on"! ( he was wearing work clothes not his suit) LOL!!
