I am like alot of you all are. Holding my breath. I wish him well, and hope that he is as good as what Gold City is used to. He sure has big shoes to fill. Brian Free, Jay Parrack, Steve Ladd....following those 3 has to be a steep chore. I'm not sure they will ever have another Brian Free, but that's a biased opinion from an admittedly huge Brian Free fan.
I'm not sure Steve, as much as I liked him, could do justice to In My Robe of White...That will be my test for Chris. If he can pull that song off comparable to Brian, then he gets my thumbs up.

When I heard that Gold City was looking for a Tenor Chris was one of the first names that popped into my head... He fits their new direction perfectly IMHO, his pitch placement is almost perfect and that is very important, He is just a good fit all the around for Gold City. I think Danny made just the right choice, You can bet he labored over this decision I can't wait to hear Chris with Gold City!!!!!

I am sorry that you have taken issue with the statements that I have made. Nothing that I said was meant to be back handed. I am an upfront guy and will say things out in the open and not in secret. If you go back and read my comments again I think you will see that nothing I said was backhanded. I said that Chris is a good singer, but I have my own opinions to his sound just as you do. Your opinion is biased, seeing as how he sings in the same group that you do. I think I remember saying that I hoped that I was wrong by the quality of the clips and that I hoped he was a true GC tenor. I understand that the videos are poor quality, but that is no excuse for how quality the person is. As a matter of fact, the video clips sound better than the webiste clips do to me...see, another opinion.
As far as me saying that Gold City is better than anything that Chris is used to singing with....I stick by that statement. There are not many groups that are even in the same catagory as Gold City. But on that note, my opinion is biased on that as I have been a GC fan since the 80's.
I said nothing in particular about the Melodyaires other members, but I would be more than happy to PM you my information if you would like to talk. Just because you got your toes stepped on because someone doesn't care for your sound doesn't give you free pass to try and belittle them.
I have been wrong before. I didn't think Jay Parrack would fit with GC either...he was my favorite, but it took some time. Steve didn't fit either in the beginning, but he was right in there after a couple of years. As I said before...I honestly hope that I am wrong again.

I heard his recording with the guys from GC after his last audition before anyone even knew his name, and I can assure you the sound is phenomenal. While we're extremely saddened to see him go, we are thrilled that he is being given the chance to fulfill a lifelong dream. But before we go knocking the talents of super-talented and Godly guys based off low-quality videos on the web, let's be sure we know what we're talking about. Just my .02.

Instead of bickering you all need to pray for Gold City...such a wonderful ministry is going through a rough time and they need all the prayer they can get!

As long as human beings have their own opinions, there will always be bickering, unfortunately. We need to respect other ppls opinions, especially when they don't agree with ours.

You'll have to overlook the bias. When one is bias it is hard to be objective. You are absolutely correct in saying that just b/c someone steps on our toes, it doesn't give us a free pass to belittle them. I too have been a GC fan since the 80's.
We will all be anxious to hear Chris sing with the group!
I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised to see where Steve surfaces in the SGM world!

I thought Steve had left Gold City to take a postion as a "Worship" leader. (I really hate that term. Song leader is much more accurate, but that's another topic for another time) Now people are saying that he is filling in for the Booth Brothers?? Does his song leader job not start for a while?

Steve told me when I saw him last month, that he would be helping out the worship leader. So I guess he will be an assistant worship leader... And the Booth Brothers thing well Steve is good friends with the guys so I figure he is just wanting to help them out...

Oh ok. From the initial announcement it seemed he was going to be in charge of the music program.
Makes more sense then, if he is assisting, that he will still be free to fill in for people, or even do solo dates as he chooses.

Don't worry about Steve handling the job. I've personally heard Steve fill in for Michael a couple of years ago and he can handle it. Michael was off a night celebrating his anniversary and Steve filled in. He stumbled off the stage acting just like Michael.

We'll all find out soon enough whether or not it is true that Steve is filling in for Michael for a couple of months while he takes a leave. I have heard Steve will be singing with them in July. I'm hoping Steve will be with the BB's at the Brumley Sing this year. I would love to get to hear him with them, though it will seem strange not having Michael on-stage!

We have tickets to see the Booth Bros. at Dix, IL, on July 17. Are you saying that Steve will be subbing for Michael then? As much as I like Steve, I will miss Michael, especially since we only get to see them about once per year. Michael's dry, off-the-cuff humor, adds a lot to a Booth Bros. concert, as well as his singing. I will go one way or the other. It will not be the first time to see someone filling in for someone else.

Was anybody at GC's concert last night? I would be interested to hear how Chris sounded with them. From the video clips I watched of the Melodyaires, I think he will blend right in with "the boys".

I know folks that were at the first concert and also folks at the Bonifay concert. Everyone I've talked to, including artists there say Chris nailed it.

I am going to see the Booth Brothers in late July it will be interesting to hear them with Steve... If he is with them on that date... Is there an announcement coming soon???
