It can be hard to truly forget but I often pray that God will help me to see people as He sees them. We are commanded to encourage, rebuke, and exhort but I think sometimes we forget the "encourage" part.

As the search continues for a new tenor for GC, I wanted to take the opportunity and post as soon as i could to let you all know that I have spoken with Jeremy Peace himself today via telephone and we talked about my earlier post.

The entire thing was a real event that did happen, but turned out to NOT be Jeremy's fault. It was a misunderstanding on my part, and Jeremy and I were able to clear that up today. Jeremy and I were able to talk about forgiveness, the goodness of God, and able to talk candidly about how God forgives. Jeremy reached out to me to make amends, doing as a Christian should and turns out we were able to get much settled.

I still dont think that Jeremy needs to be the tenor and replacement for Steve Ladd. My reason?? He is where God wants him right now, and therefore doesnt need to go ANYWHERE. Carry on People!!!

Thanks for sharing that Jeremy! Who knows....it may have all been to help you reach out to someone going through the same thing!! Brian Free didn't have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ until he had been singing with Gold City for several years, and yet he had been brought up in church his entire life! I've heard his testimony hundreds of times, yet it blesses my heart every time!

Sandy

Yeh...thanks Jeremy...Mark Trammel was also saved as an adult...after growing up in a pastor's home...and years of singing with The Cathedrals.

I remember several years ago when Jeremy was with the Kingsmen, My family and I was on vacation in Ashville, Nc and Jeremy and his wife had dinner with us at the Cracker Barrel. What a wonderful time we had, he probably dosn't remember that, but I sure do. We came all the way from Oklahoma just to see the smoky mountains, oh and also Jermey.

Life on the road singing is a grind that puts stress on your home and family life, as well as one's marriage. Sometimes you just gotta give it up to keep things together at home. Most people in SG say they love singing with the guys, but riding the bus, sleeping on the bus, living on the bus is no fun at all.

Singing on the road can't be any more stressful than being married to a law enforcement officer. The divorce rate is atrocious in the police field.

I love ya Jeremy and ya know that! I've known you a long time! You're one of the best , IMO.

I still think Jodi Hosterman would fit GC.

Well back to Steve Ladd. I just wanted to say as we get down to the final weeks of Steve being with Gold City that I have greatly enjoyed his time with the group. Steve is an incredible talent! He truly has continued the legacy of top notch tenors for Gold City. I think that he is one of the most under rated talents in SG. I find it unthinkable that he didn't even make the top ten in the fan favorite tenor award. I guess most people have never seen him live or gotten to know him. The dude is incredible has great range and has power where ever he sings. Are there people who screech higher than him yes, but he can climb and does so with control and with something behind it. I will miss him and his abilities with Gold City. Looking forward to seeing what God is going to do through and with him. Also looking forward to seeing one or two of those solo dates. Looking forward to seeing the new Gold City also I know they will do a great job of replacing Steve.

Gold City Announces New Tenor
- Danny Riley
Tuesday, June 16, 2009
Gadsden, AL- Gold City announced today that their new tenor will be Chris Cooper. Chris, a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., has been involved in Gospel Music for the past 12 years, singing with numerous groups.

“I’ve been praying for a change in my life,” stated Chris. “I had given no thought of going back on the road—little did I know that my dream job was on the way! I am extremely excited about this opportunity.”

Chris and his wife, Kristin, have been married for four years. They have two children, Kylie, 3, and Kaden, 2.

“We had a lot of great singers apply for this job," said group manager Daniel Riley. "It was a really tough decision but in the end I felt like Chris was best equipped vocally, and after much prayer, it was clear that he was the man for this position. He has a very unique voice and I believe people will like the sound.”

Chris’ first date with Gold City will be July 1st at Tusculum Hills Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee.

He's sung with N'Harmony, Won By One, and Safe Harbor. He just left the Melodyaires.

Don't mean to sound negative, but I hope that this guy sounds better with GC than he does on the Melodyaires website....that is if that is him singing tenor. I just don't hear the quality that GC tenors are known for. I honestly hope that I am wrong. GC has always been my favorite group. All of the soundclips on the site are fair in quality....at best.

I know absolutely nothing about him or his voice quality other than what I am hearing on the website. If someone else has something else to compare it to then please direct me because I am sort of in shock at GC's choice to be honest.

This is Chris Cooper. http://www.melodyaires.com/chrisbio.html

Here's a couple videos with the Melodyboys. Unfortunately, poor quality videos.

I have confidence in Danny Riley to pick the right man; he's worked with some awesome tenors.

I hope he surprises me. I watched the clips and I just don't see it. He must have brought some serious heat when he auditioned because from what I have heard and watched I would have never thought that he would even be in the running.

It's nothing personal against him...He's a good singer. It's just that in my opinion GC is so much better than what this man is used to singing with.

As the current bass player for The Melodyaires, I am happy to call Chris a dear friend. I have to say I really take issue with your comments. First of all, the video clips on our site were filmed by a fantastic fan of ours on a digital camera, so obviously the quality is not the best in the world. And your backhanded comment about the rest of us is really in poor taste. Our group has turned out multiple tenor singers to larger groups over the years...Jerry Martin to name one.

Chris is one of the most dynamic and awesome tenors I've ever had the pleasure to meet, and I would put him up against anything out there. I heard his recording with the guys from GC after his last audition before anyone even knew his name, and I can assure you the sound is phenomenal. While we're extremely saddened to see him go, we are thrilled that he is being given the chance to fulfill a lifelong dream. But before we go knocking the talents of super-talented and Godly guys based off low-quality videos on the web, let's be sure we know what we're talking about. Just my .02.

Fair enough, TM Jr.

People need to just wait and see. But I do think many people are holding their breath right now. There's almost no chatter going on anywhere on this subject.

Chris filled in for Legacy Five, I think it was after Tony Jarman left, I heard him with them at a concert, and I thought he did a really good job. I do not know if they considered him for the position, or if he just was helping them out. As they went on to hire Frank Seamans. But I feel we need to give him a fair chance, you can't base anything on a video online. I think some of the best groups, sound really bad on some of those videos.

I have been listening to the N'Harmony CD with Chris as the tenor since I heard that Gold City had hired him. He sounds good on the CD. He also looks very young on the cover photo (the CD is from 2002), so I would think 7 years of experience and maturity would make him sound even better. I know Steve Ladd sounded better after joining Gold City than he did with the Anchormen. IMHO of course

Gold City is my favorite group as well, so I can't wait to see them with Chris. I trust them to make the right decision, and I believe he will be great with them.

I also am very nervous about this. Gold City Tenor is one of the most important positions in all of southern gospel. But I will give Chris a fair chance, and not judge until I hear him with the group. There were many personnel decisions by this group in the past that i questioned at first, but quickly realized how terribly wrong my initial opinion of them was. Some of them went on to be my favorite singers. I have learned my lesson.
