Well, I've been attending concerts to hear GC since their first major concert at the GA Mtn Center and each group change has had 'adjustments' to make for me. But I have come to love and enjoy each of them!

Praying for the group and for Steve as they make this transition.

I saw Steve in March and April and he told me he was so tired and needed a break. I saw him the day before he resigned and he could barely talk because his voice was about gone. He said he was really tired and needed a break. We have been friends for over 10 years and when I left I said "I will see you next time". he said OK. He never told me he was leaving and my heart is really sad. I am assuming he told nobody he was leaving.

When Jay left and before Steve came Dan Keeton filled in and from what I remember, it sounded quite good. I heard them then and I wonder if there's a chance that will happen?

I think this is going to be a very important hire for Gold City. I love them, and I hope they make the right decision. I think it hurts groups to change personal. But...But... If they make the right choice and move forward they will be back on top in no time. I think Wes Hampton would be an outstanding fit, and an outstanding hire. I don't think they would miss a beat. By the way, have they only had 3 tenors in the history of the group?

NEWNAMEGIRL, With all the changes for tenors, to only have three tenor changes really says something for Gold City. On southerngospelblog.com , Someone said they had heard the Fill-in for Jay on a recording. I'd like to hear that!

but...

Im sure Bob Oliver, Tenor (1980–82 )and Benny Blackburn, Tenor (1983) would be surprised to hear that Gold City had had only three tenors

WhatdoIknow.. I'll tell you the same thing I told someone on another board (who is obviously a Dan Keaton fan too) - Dan Keaton and GC... nah... doesn't work for me. In all the conversations I've heard the last 24 hours, you and that guy are the only 2 that I heard mention Dan. But I guess anything is possible.

No disrespect to Dan but as a long time GC fan, I hope that's not the direction they go, it just doesn't fit to me.

Has there been any word on when Steve's last concert will be? Gold City will be in my area near the end of May. I'd love the chance to see him with the group one more time and to say goodbye.

I am praying for Steve. I have known him since he sang with Southern Heritage out of Apex, NC. May God bless him and GC as well.

I would simply love to see someone that no one would think could do it. I'd love to see them come on board and simply leave us speechless! There are no tenors out there that have surprised us. I have to believe that there is one. Not one who is well known or someone who is unknown. Simply one who has not been put in the right situation to show what they are really made of.

This Gold City position, at this moment in time, cries for a tenor that has something inside them that is just not the normal SG tenor. Put them beside Bruce and Danny and the tone needs to open up. They still need to be super high, but the thinner, "pinch it off" tone is not going to mix well with the current blend

but...
What Do I Know

This news saddened me because he is my favorite, but God is leading him in a different direction and I pray the best for him and his family! like in the song Ill Walk On Steve sings, 'Ill walk on...where-ever you may lead me.'- He means what he is singing, and it now shows...

Steve will be greatly missed in SGM, but never forgotten!!

I hate to see him go to because he did an awesome job this past friday night in Kannapolis, NC and he was trying to get everybody fired up. Gold City has alot of talent and I am sure it want be hard for them to get what they want and need but just leave it up to God to lead who He wants in that position.

In talking to Steve last Friday he said that he would be doing solo dates about once per month and also working in his church.

Steve will do good where-ever God takes him. I still feel Jodi Hosterman would be a great tenor of choice for GC!

That reminds me of a conversation I had with him just before it was announced that he was leaving the Anchormen for Gold City. I complimented him on how the group had really gelled with all the changes they had went through, when Steve was about the only one who had been there for a while. He thanked me for my kind words and never mentioned the Gold City thing. It was announced a couple of days later.
