It's funny to think of someone being "up north" from you! LOL!

Well, sure! There's a whole lotta north with not all that many people living in it, but those who do seem to love it. Mostly, it's a huge country with not a lotta people living in it... makes me think of an article I read in Geography class in high school. There was a military guy from St. John's (in Newfoundland, on the East coast) who was posted to Chilliwack (in British Columbia, on the West coast) for a short-term posting (ie his family couldn't come). He requested that he be posted to London, England, instead, because it would be closer!

I haven't had a great day today. What is it about the days in the middle of the week that are harder, for some reason? Today's trigger was a pregnant woman I saw at the gym; I've seen plenty of expectant mothers lately but this was the first at the gym. I suddenly remembered the last class I went to before the miscarriage.

Life is not fair sometimes. I don't expect it to be, but when God lets this kind of thing happen, I get so confused. What good can possibly come of it?

And yes, that's a rhetorical question but if anybody knows any good answers to it, I'd gladly hear them.

I'm going back to weightwatchers tomorrow. Oh goody, one more thing to be disciplined about. I am going with a colleague who is also walking through grief, so we need to get going on our food habits for similar reasons.

Funny! Yeah, I know there's a lot still north of you - mostly pine trees and polar bears but not many people.

Kevin and I get a kick out of the fact that I am now living, in Canada, SOUTH of where I lived in Minnesota.

Sorry it's been a bad day.

I don't know why certain things happen, and trying to wrap my brain around it just makes things so much worse. There are some things we just won't get answers to while we are on this earth. Once we get to heaven, I think everything will make sense. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

That is funny... I remember telling some American friends that the southernmost tip of Canada is at the same parallel as the northern tip of California, but they didn't believe me. I guess it didn't fit into their idea of neat and tidy borders... but without natural-boundary borders, you'd never recognize the outlines of any state! They'd all be square.

I'm feeling a lot better this evening. Probably because DH is away for his sleep test... woohoo! One solid night's sleep, coming up!

It's not wrong to be happy to have the bed to myself, is it?

Jen!

For some reason, I was thinking about you recently, and wondered how you've been doing. I definitely didn't remember your handle, so I had no way to look you up and contact you. And now here you are! I'm sorry to hear you've hit a rough spot recently. :( I almost never post anymore, but I'm glad I ran into you here!

Good to see you Spunky! That's the problem with not having a handle with my name in it, but what do ya do.

Well, we're getting into the thick of planning our vacation in May. We are taking one last trip before we start having kids, on doctor's orders. Yes, sir, Mr. Doctor, sir! We'll be away for two weeks, and plane tix are booked.

We're going to central Europe; DH lived in Europe for two years so it's tough to find a place in Europe he hasn't been, but he never made it to the central/eastern parts of Europe. And coincidentally, it's a bit cheaper to travel there than in western Europe. Works for me!

Is anybody still in touch with Darcie? I remember that she spent some time in Czech Republic. I'll have to see if I still have her contact info.

I've found Darcie on Facebook. She's doing well. I'll have to let her know you're back!

Preliminary plan: fly into eastern Germany, and take the train through Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, and maybe Slovakia. We'll probably stick to the capital cities since we only have two weeks, and we figure there are fewer English-speaking folks in smaller towns. DH only speaks English; my French and Italian won't be of much use there, and my German is really rusty. I learned Italian after German, so I keep mixing in Italian vocabulary. Doesn't go over so well. German is sort of the predominant international language in central Europe, so hopefully I'll have some time to brush up.

It's actually a simple enough trip to plan--there's one major inter-city train that links all the capital cities, and you can get a one-train flexible ticket that lets you get on and off; much cheaper than a rail pass. And once you get away from Germany and Austria, the cost of travel goes down considerably. You can go to the opera in Budapest for $4!

Hi Spunky!

Jen, how did DH's sleep test turn out?

I'm glad the two of you are getting away. I hope you have a great trip. And getting away in May rather than mid-summer should also add to the savings.

Sounds like a great plan! And going to the Opera for $4? That's amazing! You'll have to let me know which one you see.

And for foreign languages, I barely know spanish. While it was relevant to know in FL, and TX...it's not too relevant here in upstate NY.

Well, this was his second sleep test; the first found that he had moderate sleep apnea, which isn't bothering him much except to decrease his blood oxygen levels slightly. If he were single they probably would let him go without treating it, but the whole point is that I can't sleep through his snoring. So the purpose of the second sleep test is to set you up on a CPAP machine and adjust your levels until the right amount of air is getting in.

His snoring is so bad that they had to turn the air up to maximum. I don't know when they will have him buy a machine; he'll have to test face masks as the one they used hurt his nose.

Tricia, I'm guessing you've been to Prague? We'll probably be there 2-3 days. I'm hoping to get in a day-trip to Terezin as well. What would you recommend seeing there?

Jen, There are at least 2 types of cpap machines. My niece was given a cpap. It did not work for her. They gave her a different machine that delivers the air differently. (Don't ask me how.) She is still trying to get used to it.

Yeah, I'm not sure how it works in terms of how they determine which machine to use. I'm also not sure whether it can be loaned out to test it; what if you buy it and it turns out to be a poor fit? All very confusing.

I was there on a mission trip in 2000. We were in Prague only a day at the beginning and a day at the end, and we didn't do a lot of museums, etc. but more just wandered around. But it was still gorgeous and romantic and all that. I'd love to go back now that I have a husband I can smooch with in Old Town Square.

I recommend:
- Old Town Square (along with the astronomical clock)
- Charles Bridge
- Hradcany (Prague Castle and its environs)

There are probably other great sites, but we didn't visit them.

Prague is known for its crystal, and there are crystal shops all over the place. If you're interested in buying, I'd suggest doing some research before you go to see what would be good prices. Most of the shops offer to ship it home for you, but that's pretty expensive.

I always found it interesting that Windsor, ON is actually south of Detroit.

Thanks Trish! I needed that!

Can I go back to sleep now? Do you think my boss would notice?

My eyelid has been twitching for over a week now. Not enough to affect my vision, but it is driving me bonkers! I'm also starting to wonder if it's affecting my sleep. I'm getting to the point where I wake up just barely rested after eight hours, and utterly exhausted if I get less than eight hours of sleep. That can't be right.

Of course, if the eyelid is affecting my sleep, I'm really stuck, since apparently these things go away with... more sleep.

Other than being exhausted I'm doing great. Now if I can just drag myself to the gym tomorrow, I will consider it a point of minor triumph!

A year ago I had an eye twitch that lasted for a couple of months. It was insanely irritating. I don't know whatever caused it, and I'm not sure whatever caused it to go away. However, when I realized it was gone I was a really happy camper.

I also just tried to get a mental image on how some can "drag themselves" to the gym. LOL. My silly humor at this hour is trying to figure out the logistics...

The logistics involved with dragging oneself to the gym are similar to those pertaining to pulling oneself up by one's bootstraps.

It is snowing. Yesterday it snowed and was supposed to melt (it didn't). This morning it snowed again and people are driving like they've never seen snow in their lives. I was a half-hour late for work, but at least my bus came; sometimes the last bus doesn't come during snowstorms... or it comes long after everybody has given up on it.

You know what would be great? If they put GPS trackers on every bus, and you could log onto your computer and see where your bus was so you would know if it was late or early. I'd probably use the information to cut it even closer than I already do, and wind up missing it half the time.

Apparently the eyelid twitch can be related to tension in the sternocledomastoid muscle (one of the front neck muscles; it turns your head). That's the one that gets really tight if you have TMJ syndrome. Since I usually have tight SCM muscles I'm going for a massage today. Ah, massaaaaagggggeeee.

That sounds like a really good excuse for a massage.

I think so too. I actually haven't been since the miscarriage, so I'm overdue. I usually would go for one every few months or so if my shoulder acted up; it was acting up a week ago but hadn't gotten worse, so I ignored it. However, if I'm serious about getting back to the gym, I do need to get it dealt with.

I'm just very fortunate that my insurance covers a certain amount of therapeutic massage per year. I wish it were more, but I'll take what I can get.
