Eh, if you look at the Proverbs 31 wife, she seemed to do a lot of business related kind of stuff. Even with being pregnant, I'm grateful I have stuff at church and in the community to help keep me busy. It only takes so long to decorate and shop for a baby.

She also had SERVANTS...she still wasn't doing everything HERSELF...people always seem to overlook that verse.

Anyways, I wasn't saying it was wrong for a woman to earn money, I'm just saying that that is an area in which they really differ from every other ultra conservative and/or Gothard follower (and yes I've met some, but not them---I was even a nanny for a 5 children Gothard family for 6 months) I've ever met. I just thought that was somewhat odd or interesting, depending on how you look at it.

Roberta, Gothard opposes adoption because of the supposed inherited sins that the child will bring with him/her.

I wouldn't, and didn't when pregnant with my first. I spent about 5 days a week at my friends house or us running around doing stuff until I was put on bed rest. Then as soon as he was born and I was released from the hospital, I went back to going going going a lot. Every month we even drove 300 miles to see my parents...every month.

That still wasn't on a bus with 20 people with only a bunk for each person.

At least you don't think you would have. I didn't think I would mind going to a college across the country, and living in a garage apartment 5 miles off campus w/no kitchen, and washing my dishes in the bathroom sink and working for the family who owned the "apartment"--it was really a *somewhat* converted garage/shop next to their house-- along with work, babysitting jobs and studying..

Well, once I lived through it, I did mind it. It was horrid...and it drove me to a physical collapse and literally to the brink of insansity. Yes, part of my mental affects were from the lyme disease, but part of them, I think were due to what I went through (as well as all the mold). I could never handle it now, and don't know how I did then. Well, considering what happened, I almost didn't live through it, but I somehow survived for 3 years.

eh, I'm sure she had to sign a contract of some sort, both of them, regarding their role in the show. Do you think the possibility of being on the show played into her decision to marry him? Maybe she wants that lifestyle? Nothing wrong with that if that is the case, it is just not the type of lifestyle I want.

I have wondered this myself about her marrying him. I think amongst the Gothard circle the Duggars are the poster family of this lifestyle and I wonder if Anna's father jumped at the chance for one of his daughters to marry into the Duggar family.

Actually, those in the Gothard clan do not consider them the poster child...they hold very different views in some areas. They are only called that by those not really associated with Gothard.

According to another site, a girl who claims to be raised BG (and sounds legit) says some Gothard followers (including BG himself) are glad their beliefs are being exposed, while others think they are "too liberal" and others fall in the middle..I'll try to find a link to that post.
HERE is the link.

I'm glad that my parents didn't have a problem getting their daughters by adopting us out of an orphanage. Also, I believe that Jesus said we are to take care of widows and orphans. I wonder why Gothard would teach something that goes into direct contrast with the words of Christ?

Roberta, I, personally, think Gothard has a lot of beliefs that are contrary to scripture. I remember the (Gothard following) family that I nannied for coming home with about 5 encyclopedia sized manuals (expensive, of course) of how we were to live our lives. It's hard enough to do what's laid out in the Bible w/o adding to it. And some of it was like how early you should get up (obviously, the Duggars aren't following that one, lol)...how to dress, and much more more. There was more in there than any one person could ever follow.

Obviously you don't know me if you question that...I KNOW that I wouldn't mind it. Unlike you, I have been through pregnancy five times, so I am not going on assumptions but on experience. I HATE being put on bed rest and not being able to get out and about. If I could, I would.

That's exactly what I meant...and I WASN'T really referring to the pregnancy part so much as the being in the bus with 20 people part.

But I know me..and I KNOW that I wouldn't mind it. I know exactly what you mean, and you are wrong...I know me. I know others that wouldn't mind it either, so I know I am not that odd. It does not seem odd to me that Anna would enjoy it, even sharing the bus, even being pregnant, even the traveling.

Ok, sorry, I shouldn't have doubted you knowing your own mind......

But I (just talking about me/myself) wouldn't want to do it..for ME personally, that's too many people crammed into a small space for too long of a time. I'm always so glad to get off a plane after only a few hours. According to my logic, though, I guess I could find I did like it (but I doubt it ). And we did the driving cross country in the camper w/four kids thing (though not really using the toiled/shower--we always stopped for that)..enough w/ my family to know I don't care for it. If I were Anna, I would have at least wanted for me and Josh to have our own vehicle following the rest of the family.....but then I'm not her, so there you go.

She's also 20, and I'm 37, so maybe she feels more adventerous and energetic then me. I felt more that way at that age than I do now, that is for sure.

Roberta, there has been quite a few, but it's been a while, so I don't think the mods would mind if you started one---no one ever knows where to put it, though, so it usually gets put in parenting, lol.

We just need to be careful not to assume that because we don't like something, everybody else feels the same way.

I mean, I'm sure lots of ladies who meet my husband would go away grateful that they're not married to him. Which is fine with me because *I* want him. So, while I might find Josh annoying or off-putting, I know that my feelings really have very little value in deciding whether *Anna* is happy with him. This family is making choices that many of us would never make, but because we would be unhappy with those choices, doesn't mean the Duggar's are unhappy.

I don't think everyone feels the way I do about the bus....I was just sayin' that's how I would feel, at least I think.

Do you really, Maggie? I knew you liked the Duggars a lot, so if you really feel that way, I'm glad you can admit it (I think parenthood will humble him..they say that it has a way of doing that).

Really? Josh seems to have aged before his time. Far be it from me to understand the tastes of teenagers. I don't even get what they all find so fascinating about the Jonas Brothers...

Maggie, I think you are much better looking then Josh Duggar.

A very good point. A lot of folks think that because I don't agree with their philosophy, that it means I don't understand their doctrine. But I should also apply that to myself when it comes to women like Anna.

She likes the Jonas brothers, but she thinks that Josh Duggar is hot. She likes John-David too, but he's not shown very often.

It's not that I would want to be under lock and key...but just for me, as a pregant mom, I'd rather be home decorating the nursery, getting clothes ready, cooking for my husband than on a bus to DC with my inlaws and umpteen sis and bros in law...but again that is just me.

Honestly, it only takes so long to decorate a nursery and wash baby clothes. I would have thought a trip to DC with my inlaws(and I have a lot of them) would have been a blast, I totally would have gone. Heck, I was camping(roughing it) at 34 weeks pregnant and sleeping on air mattress. In late July. In Colorado. It was FUN. Seriously, even with my humongous swollen feet it was still fun.

And really, if they went in June/July she would have probably still been pretty comfortable as a pregnant woman and not humongous. Also, when you grow up in a large family and are already used to a huge crowd it doesn't phase you much. You have already learned to tune out the noise and d-r-a-m-a.

By getting clothes ready I meant sewing, not washing. I don't even like camping NOW (I prefer motels---one of the reasons I'm visiting the friend I am visiting and not another friend is because the friend I'm visiting this week is single with her own place, and the other friend has a crowded --married w/kids--house so I'm waiting to visit her till I've saved enough for a motel), so I seriously doubt I'd like it pregnant. Anna can like what she is doing all she wants. Other people can like roughing it all they want. It still doesn't mean I have to. I was just saying that I (ME PERSONALLY) wouldn't like to be in Anna's shoes. Some people would like to be in her shoes. That's fine. But I wouldn't. That is just me. And I never said Anna had to dislike it..but I'm happy it was her and not me on the bus.

I'm catching up with this thread after having not been on for a while, so I know this was talked about a while ago, but somebody made the comment that product placement is annoying. It doesn't bother me, really, as long as I don't put too much stock in the idea that the Duggars (or anybody else doing the plugging) got the idea all by themselves, like they just decided one day to go out and buy Swiffer Wet Jets to keep the floors clean for the little ones. They never said that, anyway. Michelle only said in her plug that it was important to keep the floors clean for the little ones. Anyway, TV is made for the commercials, for the most part. People don't just make TV because they want people to be entertained. They (and I'm talking about the producers here) make TV to make money. And a good portion of that money comes from corporate sponsors who want their products plugged. It's just part of making TV. It doesn't hurt anything.

Yes it is a part of tv which in itself isn't bad for the majority but the Duggars themselves seem so proud to not watch tv then have their family in a television show. They talk so much about how frugal they are. In their interviews it is always in the average family blah blah blah but in our family we do it this way. It is fine if they use those things but it is time to stop saying what they don't do if they end up doing it.
