Do you think that it would help Southern Gospel music as a whole if more groups put bands back on the road?

It just my opinion but no I don't think so. Most people that really love it don't really care.

Would I love to see bands with the groups?? Absolutely!!!! Does that mean I don't or won't support groups without them? Nope! While I love the bands, I understand economics and I understand that the people who yell the loudest for a full band are USUALLY the same people who balk when a ticket is more than $10.

So I guess in my opinion it's put up or shut up. If gospel fans really want full bands, they would be willing to pay the groups what it costs to afford to pay them. If they are not willing, don't complain.

I would love to see groups travel with full bands again. If only Southern Gospel had an audience that would support that....

Yes.

But concert audiences have to provide more financial support to groups for it to happen.

(I see DeeAnn just said essentially the same thing. The time delay bug got me again!)

I have to agree 110%. This same group will pay $50 - $75 to see a country singer (and brag about it) but refuse to pat $10 for a SG group.

I would love to see bands back in southern gospel music, but they are not enough fans in southern gospel music to supports groups with bands.

I think would almost be enough reason for more groups to have bands. Lets face it... the majority of people that attend SG concerts are the older generation. They are not going to be around for ever. So there has to be a draw to bring a younger generation into the "loop" so to speak. So really whatever it takes to get people excited about going to SG concerts is what's going to have to happen or else Southern Gospel Music will be a thing of the past in twenty years.

I remember 30 years ago people said in 10 or 20 years there won't be anybody around to listen to southern gospel. Some people may not agree with me but I think sometimes the lack of crowd has to do with not promoting enough. I know that is not always the case though.

The short answer is Yes, yes, yes.

And DeeAnn has expressed the conundrum that SG faces. Fans of secular bands think nothing of dropping anywhere from $40 to $100 for a ticket. If SG wants to draw more fans they have to give the audience the full musical experience and that means live bands. But will the core fans pay up to cover the cost of a live band tour and expand the audience?

And who foots the bill for that? The logic makes no sense. If folks won't support that's a reason to do it???

Somebody has to be bold and take the risk in order to reap the rewards.

I'm excited about that news!

On a scale of 1 to 5, my excitement level about Gold City concert just shot up from about a 2 to about a 4.

It makes perfect sense. You have to have a draw to bring people in. All I am saying is that it is going to take something exciting to bring new fans in. You have to change peoples perception on SG Music.
And for as who foots the bill.... well ticket prices will have to go up ... not to long ago, I saw EH & SS at a CHURCH!!!! tickets were $20 for the open admission seats and I think $35 for the reserved seats. People were being turned away at the door. It was packed out!!! Yep, It was packed out and tickets were $20 and $35 a ticket. Why do you ask. Because they put on a show. It is entertaining, and no I am not saying that everything has to be a show, but you have to have an entertainment factor there. So I said all of that to say this, I really don't think people would mind to pay a little more if they were going to get more than four guys and a piano player.

Is Coomer Cove a part of GC.? If not, how can he confirm it? We have not heard or seen an official release from GC. Until then let's just sit back and watch.

He has friends in the group and presumably contacted them.

Looks like to me that Coomer contacted someone in Gold City's camp. I only originally reported the facts as they were told to me by one of the new players. Coomer went a step farther in getting the scoop! But until GC issues a formal, public announcement - or you see the band perform at a concert- I guess it's all still kinda unofficial, huh? In that case, the whole 'wait and see' thing DOES comes into play. I just know Kevin told me he was gonna be their new drummer, and he has never lied to me! (HaHaHA!)

I did contact someone within Gold City and was told that they are bringing the band back. Other people have told me who will be in the band, but my contact asked me to hold back the names until everything is ready.

I would love to see more SG groups with a full band. But with expenses I understand why there are so few. Glad to hear Gold City is getting a band again! Hope I get to see them soon!

I think the bass player might've had to work a notice. Not really sure, because I didn't think he was playing full time with the group he's most recently been associated with.

I also don't think that either of these guys have what you would say ever played on the professional circuit for any lengthy time. But it is safe to say that both guys have played with some recognizable names, though, even if just for a limited time.

I know Kevin played drums with us for about 6 years, and we traveled alot - and many will remember him- but we weren't doing it for a living... so in that case, we weren't considered 'pro'...

jchaz,

I think we should ALL wait until Gold City makes the announcement about the possibility of a band. The game of I was told by someone is how rumors get started. I am not saying someone inside Gold City didn't say something, just that it is THEIR responsibility to make that announcement.
