Sounds like he's getting there, Erin. He has made such progress! I also can't believe he's 4 weeks already. I'm glad you guys have been able to spend so much time with him. I'm sure that does your mama heart good.
Just want you to know I'm still praying and thinking about you guys all the time. My dh even asked the other day "How's my little Crosswalk guy doing?"

My family knows Isaac by name. I am updating hubby and kids daily. We are all so proud of his progress, and we have never met any of you. It is amazing how being in the family of God brings us together, huh?
Still praying. It is good that he can get the extra help when he needs it. It is interesting that his little body is struggling to do more than one thing at a time. I'm sure that it's just because he was not quite ready for this complicated world of ours!

Still having apnea's and heartrate drops and they scare me to death. To see his heartrate go from 150s to 20s, but he always pulls himself out of them and the nurses arent too concerned, its normal in preemies. But its scary!

That would scare me to death too. I am glad he is always able to pull himself out of them.

quote:

Yesterday he spit up on me for he first time. He did a good job too, he aimed it right and it went sraight down into my bra

lol good aim Isaac!

quote:

His eye exam will be today to make sure his retina's are attached.

I hope you get good news about this exam today!

quote:

And his PIC line is out of his foot so we can start giving him baths now. That on the agenda for next visit.

That's great news!

quote:

Oh and the heart rate drops yesterday while we were there, apparently they were so insignificant they didnt even chart them. They are basically him trying to start doing more than one thing at once. He had one yesterday while sucking on a swab of milk and he forgot to breathe. And he also forgot to breathe while he was pooping... Too many things for a little guy to remember at once.

In no time he will probably be pooping, spitting up, eating and who knows what else all at once.

quote:

BTW...Klay calls his milk additive chocolate milk. Klay wont drink plain milk so he says Isaac's gonna be like him and have to have stuff put in his milk. It doesnt change the taste or color or anything, just our "funny".

Haha that's cute!

quote:

They put him back on his nasal cannulas He had three heartrate drops last night, he came back on his own, but they think he needs some help for a little while.

Awww, poor little guy. Well, if the help is there I guess it is best he take it!

quote:

They are also doing some follow up lab work since it looked like he might be getting sick per his white blood count. So we'll get the results of that later.

((((((((((((Erin and Isaac))))))))))))) Poor little guy. I wish you guys could go home too. It is so hard being in the hospital all the time. And it has been 4 weeks for you guys. (((((more hugs))))))

The lab work came back okay. The nurse said the dr wasnt "impressed with it" but it was all normal. He hasnt had any heart rate drops today (as of lunch time).

What made me really sad is last night they moved his feeding tube to his nose to prepare him to start getting a bottle and/or breast and today they had to move it back for the nasal cannulas to go back in. So no eating on his on in the near future.

Awwww poor little Isaac (((((((hugs)))))))) Hopefully soon those can come out again and he is able to breathe on his own without it being a tricky thing.

((((((((((((Erin)))))))))))) There are so many good things happening, but at the same time it has got to all be so hard for you guys.

I am glad the lab work came back normal though. Why would he not be impressed with it? Was he hoping it would be beyond normal?

I dont really know what she meant by that. I think that it was in the normal range, but not perfect.

Maybe she/he meant "wasn't impressed" as in there isn't anything to worry about, nothing came back high or low enough to be a concern. I could see it being said in that way. So hopefully that's what it meant. Normal lab work is way more boring to look at, and that's a good thing for Mr. Isaac!

(((((Erin))))) I'm sure you feel like you're on a roller coaster. So sorry they had to move the feeding tube back and put the cannulas back in.

I thought of you on one of my visits the other day. I was working with a little guy who was a 29/30 week preemie- he weighed just under 2 lbs at birth and was in the nicu for a while. Anyways, he's just about a year old now (calendar age), and doing great! I know its hard to see past where he is right now, but it does get better.

Come on, little buddy, you can do it!!!

We are all going to be so happy for the 3 of you when he gets to come home. I am so glad he is receiving good care and has staff that are keeping you informed and letting you in on the action.

Well he lost a little weight at last nights weigh in...we are down to 3lb 4.5 oz..thats the problem with everyday weigh ins...

They are doing more labs today just to watch him closely and make sure he isn getting sick. All his levels are within the normal range but could be getting close to illness level.

Eye exam went fine, no problems.

I haven't posted much, but have been reading. I am amazed at how fast Isaac is progressing! Steady weight gain. No major set backs. Yah, it's a bummer that feeding will have to wait just a bit. Give him another couple days. He's getting there! As far as the "weight loss", it's probably because he had just loaded a diaper. Oh... you haven't experience the joys of a diaper blow out, have you??? Just wait.........

Are you feeling any better today Erin? I was thinking about you all yesterday and last night and praying that you would feel a bit better today. I hope you and Klay are doing fine. (((((((((hugs))))))))))
