I went to Inez Maples funeral yesterday in suburban Atlanta. Inez was 99 years of age and is the wife of Fred C. Maples who organized the Harmoneers Quartet in the 1940's and was one of the top SG Quartets in the 1940's, 50's and 60's. Fred is also a member of the SGMA Hall of Fame and the Harmoneers have won many prestigious awards both as a group and also individually.

As popular as the Harmoneers were, there was only two representatives from the SG community and fan club that attended the funeral, myself and Charles Key. How soon we forget.

HOW COULD I FORGET JOHNNY COOK??????? But you are right, he needs to be added!

Mr. Klaudt, I hate Mrs. Maples funeral was not better attended. Could it possibly be because there wasn't much of an announcement made when she died? I wasn't aware of it until I saw your post. Not making excuses, just wondering.

Oh and seeing your name on this post reminded me to add your family to the list of groups I'd seen over the years, thank you!!!

I understand that just the newspaper is not adequate to do justice, however, there were many telephone calls that went out to folk that used to attend The Harmoneers concerts in Atlanta. It just disappoints me that the faithful wife of a past icon could only draw me and Charles Key to pay our respects. Charles played the piano and did his usual masterful style. Not a complaint, just my usual off key observation.

Thanks for your continued interest and support of SG Music Dee Ann.

A couple more that come to mind are Smitty Gatlin and Noel Fox of the Oak Ridge Boys and "Cat" Freeman.
