well, i have a very good relationship with my gynecolog, she gives good advice about all sorts of subjects. but with my usual doctor, not at all : the visit takes only 10', he just takes bloddpressure and pulse and asks the med. i need. as i'm in depression, i have to go every month. my opinion, is that he thinks more of his money than of healing me. but what can i do ? i need these medecines, so i have to go to a doctor.

The average doctor visit is, as you say, 10 minutes. It is designed to take ONE issue to the doctor, not half a dozen!

If you have more than one issue to discuss, it's well worth speaking to the receptionists and asking if it's possible to book a longer appointment because you feel that you are going to need the time.

You are doing yourself, your doctor and other patients no favours by 'saving up issues' until you have 2 or 3 things to discuss to save you going so often.

Uh...really? *GASP* No wonder my doctor always seems to dislike seeing me. She's very very nice, but always rushing at the speed of lightning (or so it seemed). ...I thought doctors can see you up to 20-25 minutes. ...I am one of those who has like four or five different issues I bring up all the time. It finally makes sense now!!! ...She's probably holding back her frustration that I'm bringing up so many things. LOL. ....This is kind of hilarious in a sad way, because I can still see her face when I'd be bringing up problem after problem and she's trying to give me the hint she needs to get out of there. To think I used to dislike her for rushing me!....I feel bad now.

I'm the prime example of someone who saves up like 3+ issues (usually like 4 or 5), before seeing my doctor. It alllll makes sense now!

I'm going to have to be nicer to my doc!

Next time you need to make an appointment, why not ask how long the usual appointment is for. If you do have a couple of issues, you may want to ask if it's possible to make a double appointment.

I have a couple of chronic conditions and my doctor is really good and will often check how I am with those when I see her about something else. I have learnt to phrase my answers more carefully over time, depending on how on time/late she is running and how things are for me. I suspect that she's aware of this though but accepts that it's what works for me and knows that I'll contact her if anything urgent comes up.

Great advice. The appointment books are set for an allotted time for each person, depending on what they are scheduling for. If one runs long, it throws of the schedule for the rest of the day.

Still have a great relationship with my doctor. Sunday I went to his house and we cooked chili and played Wii. His wife and I are training for a run.
