I admit, I like to see a man in a suit! (that and my reason in my first post). I think guys look GREAT in suits!!

Well, I don't normally wear suits, but when I do, my wife has commented that I look "hot" (as in attractive).

Which of course begs the question, is that the response I would want to incite from females that might be in attendance at one of my performances? Would wearing a suit then become a "stumbling block" of sorts?

Before anybody thinks I'm being pompous let me clarify: I do NOT think I'm all that great looking.....but I will accept what the wife says!

I think, like several others, that you should dress for the occasion. I wouldn't wear cut offs and a tshirt to sing at (or attend) a funeral service; nor would I wear a formal suit to an outdoor casual event.

However, I do think there is a matter of good taste, and tattered jeans, wrinkled or grubby clothes are inappropriate unless you're doing yardwork or something like that. If we try to conform to the worldly style of dressing and rationalize that it's the only way to reach a particular group of people, then would it be okay for a Godly woman to wear a mini skirt, spiked heels and a sheer blouse to minister to prostitutes? I realize this is an extreme example...

When I am a representative of the gospel of my Savior, I want to look as conservative and neatly dressed as possible, so that nothing detracts from the sacred message that I've been sent to deliver.

Now here we go on the edgy side of this topic of "dress". So if the manner of dress is imprtant in the appearance and message then one must also include the hair and make up thing. I was raised in a church where women did not cut their hair, did not wear make up and did not wear any jewelry and did not wear pants and this was indeed very different but this is what the church believed. When I changed churches the beliefs were somewhat more relaxed and hair, make up, pants and jewelry were not so much an issue. My point is that both of these churches had Godly people sharing God's word but only with a different system of beliefs and they were both in the same denomination. Christians aren't made by their dress but rather by their Father in Heaven and what is right for one may not be right for another so again....this is just my opinion. By the way I do wear shorts and t shirts and sandals and in fact that is what I wear pretty regularly but I won't let the opportunity to witness pass by because of the way I am dressed. Again....clothesd do not make the man God makes the man.

I thot this was to discuss opinions on how groups dress for singing at an event...

I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to witness to anyone, anywhere just because of the way I happened to be dressed OR the way they were dressed, either.

It' no lie. Imagine, if you will, Grizzly Adams (assuming you are old enough to remember him) then cross him with Opie Taylor (From the Andy of Mayberry show) and you have me. Someone the size of Grizzly Adams but clean cut Opie Taylor look (minus the red hair) lol

Back on the subject. There is one very well known producer in Nashville that told one very popular group. "No matter what you wear a long sleeved white shirt. When you raise your hand to praise the Lord, there had better be at least an inch of the white shirt showing past the cuff on your suit jacket." Give me a break. If I'm praising the Lord what I happen to be wearing never enters my mind, nor should it.

That reminds me of a lady once...true story I promise...that turned to the lady next to her (who happened to be my aunt) and said, "Hold my baby I'm about to shout." Uhhhhh ok.

well I am not one to coform to follow what others feel or think is appropriate. God will tell me if I dress wrong or right.

I am one that goes against the grain. I.e. my Pastor in Colorado Springs wore sandals to preach in. I agree with his thoughts. Jesus wore sandals and he is no better man than Jesus.

I have a group really in the works after last night and no we won't be wearing suits. Honestly, I can't stand suits and prefer tshirt and jeans.

GP, the group is taking big steps and base life is too. got a laid back job now, loving life, God working good. found a solid Bible preaching, praying and fasting Church centered more on God than other things.((( I won't say how you dress and all but will be funny in this topic.))) but I put an update in my group's thread and have to add one more piece of info

But isn't the wearing of suits conforming to the "worldly" style of dress? After all, bankers and businessmen wear the same kind of suits.....

tafkam, don't go there Bro. will get nasty quick. all have to say, if a Church don't want me to be singing my music way I record it and dress in a comfy way, then they just won't be getting blessed.

I agree with the earlier post about neck being too big for a tie worn comfortable, how is that praising and also pleasing to God if you can't perform to best of your talent?

Churches probably invite groups that sing the style of music that their members enjoy. Not inviting a group based on the way they dress wouldn't necessarily deprive them of a blessing, tho. They might be just as blessed with a group that does dress the way the church likes or agrees with.

Goodness, I see now why someone warned about this thread getting ugly. I didn't think we were supposed to take every comment personally.

My prayer is that God would bless the efforts of anyone here who is in the ministry for God's glory alone...the rest is between you and the Lord.

I'm done here...

And neither should a group! This is my point exactly. Some seem to think if the SG group is not in a suit they can't witness and bring God's word but these same men and women go home every week in their shorts and tee shirts and flip flops and they are still the same people just dressed as themselves minus the suits. I wonder how many hold themselves to the same standards they want SG performers to live up to? I wonder how many would want to wear suits and ties and nice dresses etc to outdoor concerts? Dress should be a choice not a requirement. Just my opinion....

I do think that Jesus didn't have enuf earthly money to buy a suit. Seriously, the Bible calls him poor (and a lot of other things too.) He was that by choice, of course.

so the singers and pastors have to have a suit on to do anything in CHurch or singing or they not giving their all for Jesus? sorry, I can't agree with that thought at all.
