Other than a few soloists, I've only seen 1-2 groups that make this requirement in most cases.

I can speak for myself, being a "Solo" ministry. I have never asked for hotel stay, often it is provided but never a demand...I do carry my own sound equipment, etc... as well. My wife travels with me and helps with driving, CD table etc., being only the two of us we travel by car. We are fortunate to be able to do this together, truly a Blessing from God! God always "provides where He guides"!

Its already having a HUGE impact. Many of todays groups have gone to vans and a trailer. It has also put a smaller radius where groups travel. Im afraid that some groups will shut down as gas prices continus to rise. Some may just become part time.

As far as us fans, I go to less concerts that are more than 50 miles away. I still go but I have to be pickier now. When you add up the price of the ticket (if there is one), the gas, food and buying product....its like planning a trip to Disney. Except without Goofy. Unless Tim Lovelace is there. lol

I know members of several top groups and a couple of them have already either sold or parked their buses and have gone to various types of vans and trailers. Also, I know a couple who are talking about doing the same thing. These are some of the top groups in the industry. They have to do something with some of their buses only getting 5-6 miles to the gallon of diesel. At least the vans are getting around 15 miles to the gallon of regular. Also, my friends and I are having to consider the number of concerts we attend and the traveling distance as we plan our schedules. I am sure that most people are not able to give as much in love offerings since they are having to pay more for everything else too.

Haven't we seen tough times before. I think it will hurt the top groups more than anyone else. The local and regional groups dont travel as far so it wont hit them as hard. When we go out, a love offering covers our gas buts thats about it.

As a promoter it is really hurting my attendance. With prices reaching $4.20 a gallon here today my fear is that concerts may quickly become few and far between simply because they cannot be afforded by either the fan, promoter or the groups...God help this NOT TO happen!

I believe that some are making adjustments in expenses, including salaries. I've been in contact with two national groups in the past year about their tenor jobs and both have said I'd be looking at a $15,000 to $20,000 per year pay cut from my public school teaching job. How sad is that?!

Attending recent concerts it seems that people are staying at home or not supporting Southern Gospel Music. Certainly hope people will consider that the groups need our support and will make special effort to support them when they are in the area.

We are making an effort to attend at least as many concerts as before. It has meant some cuts in other areas but so far we are still going.

If you can't afford to go to hear your favorite Southern Gospel group or singer then what's wrong with sending a few dollars to help keep them on the road and if you don't like Southern Gospel music then send them even more money to so they will drive past your area and go to another area.
