I like this thread! It's been amusing! I'm from so. cal., too, so I use "like" a lot. My whole family says "whatever" and we even use the hand signals - it's pretty much a joke.
The ones I hate are a few others have mentioned - braa, my bad (this is my top peeve) and what up.

My daughter drives me crazy by saying "sweeeet", "nice", and "awesome!" all the time.

What a fun topic!
My personal faves: My 25 yr old daughter has an annoying habit of ending a sentence with "whatever" as in, "I went to the store, or whatever. I bought some groceries, or whatever. When I got home, or whatever, I called my friend, and she told me about her new job, or whatever." OK, that may be a bit of an exageration (or whatever), but she does it enuf to be really annoying, and I don't think she realizes how much she does it. It makes her sound as tho she does't know just exactly what she did! "I went to the store, or WHATEVER"? Huh? Aren't you sure WHERE exactly you went?
I've heard a lot of people say, "I did it on accident." It's as if they think that "on accident" is the opposite of "on purpose". It should be "BY accident", or, "It was an accident", or "I did it accidentally", not "ON accident".
The "no problem" response to "thank you" is one I can't get my head around. It seems mostly younger service personnell are the culprits, and I wonder where it all started. It is a recent developement.
Some of you may think I am nit-picking here, but it is very annoying to me when I see thengs like "Your great" instead of the proper "You're great"
Another one would be writing "to" instead of "too" or "two", as in, "I was to tired to stay up".
Another very common mistake people make, and I've heard this in songs, also, is to say, "for you and I". It should be "for you and me". The way to test the phrase would be to try the phrase without "you and". Would you say, "for I"? You would say, "for me", so when you add "you and", or "Bob and", you need to keep the "me" just as if there was no "you and". When you are using "you and" in the SUBJECT part of the sentence, as in, "You and I will go to Chicago", it is proper to use "I". Test it without "you and", as in, "I will go to Chicago."
OK, enough ranting from me! FYI, no, I'm NOT an English teacher, but it always was a favorite subject of mine!

I remember hearing that "at the end of the day" was an overused phrase a few yrs ago, and I thought at the time, "I don't think I've ever heard that one before." Then a few wks later, I was talking to a young friend about his new job, and he said something like, "At the end of the day, I'm selling things." It went right over my head, and I said, "Oh, what do you do for the first part of the day?" and then immediately remembered that he hadn't meant that literally, it was a figure of speech! Needless to say, I realized that I was so hopelessly out of touch, I didn't even recognize an already "overused" phrase!

I KNOW! That is a big pet peeve of mine too! I thought I was the only one who noticed it. And I hear it so much I was starting to doubt myself and wonder if I was wrong and it really is grammatically correct. It seems to me to be mostly kids that say it. I suppose they transfer it from "on purpose", and the adults in their life to bother to correct them, so it becomes natural for them.
Another saying that bugs me is "I can't get my head around that".

I thought of another verbal assault on my senses: It drives me nuts when someone uses "me" as an indirect object when it is obvious, as in "I'm going to eat me some shrimp tonight." There's probably nothing grammatically wrong with it, but it sounds so uneducated to me.
