I agree...I have walked out of a Crabb Family concert one time for that reason and I endured a Crabb Revival concert with the loud music...it was so loud you couldnt understand the vocals and lyrics....whats the point in a SGM concert if you cant hear and understand the lyrics and vocals?

(3) One of Roys on going comments is about the loudness of music. I have walked out on the Crabb Family for just that reason. I like harmonic playing, but when he cut loose, it was SO loud it hurt! Louder doesn't mean better. Sometimes it is a cover for being inadequate.

Yep I Love the Crabb Family.... on the radio or on a CD where I control the volume.
I also left their concert early with my ears hurting.

To get back on topic I sometimes read Roy Pauley's column and sometime I don't. He's not the reason I have a subscription but some of his articles ( like this months on The Speer Family) are fairly interesting reading.

I just met Roy and his lovely wife at the GOGR a couple of weeks ago.

Saw him in several situations. ON stage. Off Stage. Back Stage.
Behind our product table. In front of our product table. With Fans. With Artists. Early. Late. One on one. With a large group. On the shuttle bus. In the Hotel atrium.

I found Him to be nothing but pure class.
Genuine. Enthusiastic. Positive. Uplifting.
Looking forward to being around him again...soon, I hope.

I guess all that is moot now (at least as Roy's opinion goes) because his article is now related to the history of Southern Gospel music. What will that leave us to talk about??

While I enjoy the articles dealing with the history of SGM, I miss his opinion articles. They were among the first that I read each month.

The OP says "Does anybody care about Roy Pauley's Opinion?"

104 post in this thread I think the answer is yes. Pro or Con.

You should get some sort of prize for spelling "moot" correctly. There's a strong chance this is first time it's ever been done since Al Gore invented the internet.

There are at least three commonly used definitions for moot, and one has to be careful to use the word in the correct context.

1. Without legal significance, having already been decided. (not relevant here)

2. Irrelevant or of no practical importance. (as correctly used by Seaton above)

3. Subject to debate. (would also apply in this thread)

Now, if we could get everyone to spell lose, as in "I want to lose weight", with just one "o".

Hey been gone a couple days so this is the first I've seen on this thread. First of all I just read Pauley's column and I don't know what the original poster is talking about as far as Roy's column is concerned this month. It is about the history of the Speer Family. Now before Roy changed his format to the historical side of SGM his columns did seem to be locked up in a time capsule of sorts. By that he did seem to come down on hairstyles, whether or not you wore a suit, and whether or not you sang in the manner he thought you should. He did this every other month it seemed at times. But since his format has changed to the historical side I have to admit I have found his articles to be interesting and informative not to mention educational. I am 38 and one of the reasons I started listening to SGM was the Crabb Family. They had a sound that I liked but also the Lyrics were so strong that they touched my heart. Now I like CCM but lyrically speaking it can get a little weak at times. Since that time a lot of groups have changed their sound somewhat much to Roy's regret I am sure. But you can't blame Roy for printing his opinion as he has a forum to do so and is getting paid to do so I would guess. So he does have the right to write what he wants to even if it does get old. But his new column has really been good. Like I said at the first his column this month is on the history of the Speer Family and is very good. So I don't know what the poster read.

Kerr, you have hit on one of the most grevious mistakes a word nut like me wonders about. How can someone confuse the words "lose" and "loose"? I actually saw the word "loose" used in a headline in a local newspaper...the headline read "Sevier County Deputy Looses His Life". AAARRGH!

And, as was also pointed out, using "your" for "you're" and "there" for "their" is kinda funny.

There's a guy on another board I participate in from time to time who constantly uses the word "penultimate" to indicate the absolute epitome of a thing. Penultimate actually means next to last. But I guess it sounds more exciting that being merely "ultimate".

Mike

I had a friend who used to do that all the time. He'd type "your welcome" or something similar in a chat room, and I'd type back, "your welcome what?" I'm not sure he ever understood what I meant by my response. :o)

There, their, and they're:
I know the difference, but I've seen those used incorrectly so many times that I often catch myself typing the wrong one.
