Keep an eye on a song from Casting Crowns' new
Altar and the Door" CD, called "Lord I Lift My Friend To You." I think some SG group could make this beautiful ballad a big, big hit. I'd personally like to hear a great alto like Debra Talley give it a go.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I vote Arise My Love by Imperials. Origionally done by NewSong

I was about to say, I hadn't heard "Arise My Love" mentioned yet! Didn't the Greenes also do this one?

I voted for I Can Only Imagine. The first time I ever heard it was on Country radio by a country singer. It was quite a while before I realized it was a CCM original. I have heard several groups or people sing it and I just like the song. I like Ivan's version and I like Mercy Me's version. I have only seen Ivan do it live, and have seen Mercy Me do it on a video.
I like the other 2 songs in the poll, especially the Gold City one, but I Can Only Imagine is my favorite.

It doesn't have to. I just took all the suggestions made in this thread and put them in a more complete poll.

I like "Mercy Came Running sung by Gold City". I would like to hear BFA do it I think it sounds like their style.

Also I love "Days Of Elijah" by the Lefever Quartet It was recorded before by another group, I think CCM or praise and worship.

"Days" was originally recorded by Robin Mark. The SG version made me cringe though.....

I like the rendition of "When God Ran" currently being featured as the mystery song on David Bruce Murray's blog.

I haven't heard any of those songs yet, but I did see a CD in the SG section of Family Christian the other day that I am considering buying. It was called "A bluegrass tribute to Jars of Clay." Now that sounds interesting!

To be totally honest, i used to be one of those P&W/ contemporary music haters or BIG disliker (i would listen to occasional stuff). However, once the crabb family did the "blur the lines" project and started staging some of the songs...it softened me up to really understand the songs. Again, when Gold City did mercy came running...i started exploring the group that did that song and found some other good contemporary stuff. I started liking a little bit of mercy me...and about 2 years ago became a liker of casting crowns. SG is still my favorite...and i probably could count on my very quickly the number of contemporary cd's i own...(no P&W cds lol) but its really great to expand your horizons every once in a while :)

Daniel and Aaron,
You won't have to wait much longer. The answer will be revealed a mere fifteen minutes after the contest ends at midnight (EDT) on Sunday night.

In fact, I just finished listening to the entire mystery album for the first time, and I think it's going to shock some people...it's VERY good and a substantial change of pace for this well known group. I think...I THINK it may be the first 5 Star CD of 2008. I'll have to listen to it with a more critical ear a few more times before writing the review and determining the final rating.

Back to the original topic...has anyone mentioned Shiloh's version of "Amazing Love" yet? I like it.

I totally agree. Both of those groups have great songs that could be covered by Southern Gospel artists. There are (3) MercyMe songs that I can think of that would make great covers; "Word Of God Speak", "Bring The Rain" and "Emmanuel, God With Us". Of the songs listed in the poll I really like the Talley Trio's cover of "Orphans Of God". A great piece of songwriting and the vocals are dynamic!

The Greenes version was a live one too if I recall correctly. Any way I voted for them all. Can't say I'm dissappointed by any of them.
