danielmount -> Trading Stars on SG projects (10/1/2007 4:49:53 PM)

On occasion, I've traded my song ratings for an album with friends on this board. I have always found it to be interesting, since often someone else's view of a song prompts me to re-consider mine, almost always upward.

This thread assumes that you have iTunes, Windows Media Player, an iPod, or some other device that lets you rate songs on a 1 to 5 scale. The idea is that we each post our ratings for the same CD, until the pace slows a bit and one of us posts a new CD to trade ratings for.

Let's start with Triumphant Quartet's latest. I picked this one to start with because it has quite a few strong songs.

Triumphant Quartet - You Gotta Love It
1. Giver, Creator, Savior ****
2. You Gotta Love It ***
3. Smack Dab in the Middle of His Will ****
4. He Will Be ***
5. Let it Be Me **
6. The Great I Am Still Is ****
7. The Old White Flag *****
8. He Rescued Me *****
9. Delivered Again ****
10. The Holy Hills of Heaven Call Me **** (it might be 5 if I hadn't heard Vestal Goodman's definitive version first!)
11. I Know I'm Going Home ***** (strong 5!)

youngartist -> RE: Trading Stars on SG projects (10/1/2007 5:19:56 PM)

That actually very close to what my review of that album would be!

Here's my rating for the Kingdom Heirs' "True To The Call." (My reigning favorite Album of the Year):

1. Since Jesus Moved In ***
2. The Rock's Between The Hard Place And You *****
3. True To The Call *****
4. I Am The Way ****
5. I Want You To Know *****
6. Jesus Made A Believer Out Of You ****
7. Looking Out For You *****
8. Praying Your Troubles Away ***
9. Lord Your Word Is Still True ***
10. What We Needed ***** (rated "Platinum" in my Itunes)
11. I Sing Because ****

That's five 5-stars and three 4-stars from an 11-cut album. Not bad! Every song on the album is very listenable and overall very, very good.

danielmount -> RE: Trading Stars on SG projects (10/1/2007 5:42:51 PM)

Tyler--could you post your stars on You Gotta Love it first?

I had in mind with this thread that we'd all comment on one album, then all go on to the next.

Thanks!

K.B. -> RE: Trading Stars on SG projects (10/1/2007 8:26:38 PM)

danielmount -> RE: Trading Stars on SG projects (10/1/2007 8:39:19 PM)

Interesting!

danielmount -> RE: Trading Stars on SG projects (10/1/2007 9:46:27 PM)

Clarification: I'm thinking of taking maybe two or three days per project.

(Tyler, I sure hope I didn't offend you. Let's do that CD next.)

No offense taken at all! Like I've said before, I'm not offended by stuff like that. [;)]

Really, it was my own fault for not reading the entire OP. I didn't mean to ignore your instructions. [&:]

Here's my thoughts/stars on "You Gotta Love It." I thought the album was good. Not exactly terrific, but still very good:

1. Giver Creator Savior ****
2. You Gotta Love It **
3. Smack Dab In The Middle Of His Will ***
4. He Will Be **
5. Let It Be Me **
6. The Great I Am Still Is ****
7. The Old White Flag ****
8. He Rescued Me *****
9. Delivered Again ***
10. The Holy Hills ***
11. I Know I'm Going Home *****

Good album from one of my favorite groups. I think it could've been even better though with the insertion of a few more songs like "Down Every Road," "One Holy Morning," or "What Heaven's All About."

danielmount -> RE: Trading Stars on SG projects (10/2/2007 6:40:12 AM)

Very interesting! It looks my ratings are very close to yours, never off by more than one star.

I knew you'd post here (KB was a nice surprise), and I'm still waiting for at least Dinana to post before we move on. I know she rates albums.

Dinana -> RE: Trading Stars on SG projects (10/2/2007 7:19:47 AM)

Sorry - I've been pretty busy lately and haven't posted very much. I LOVE this album, so here are my stars!

1. Giver Creator Savior ****
2. You Gotta Love It ***
3. Smack Dab In The Middle Of His Will **** A lot of my liking the song is because Scott wrote it.
4. He Will Be ****
5. Let It Be Me **** This one is just plain fun - can't wait to see Eric do it in person!
6. The Great I Am Still Is ***** - if I could give it 6 stars, I would!
7. The Old White Flag ****
8. He Rescued Me *****
9. Delivered Again ****
10. The Holy Hills ****
11. I Know I'm Going Home *****

I don't claim to be objective!!

According to the latest update on SN, he's going to try to be in Rome on Thursday night!

Dinana -> RE: Trading Stars on SG projects (10/2/2007 8:00:09 AM)

That would be wonderful!!! But I was kinda looking forward to hearing Jeff Stice sing!

I've really enjoyed this album from Triumphant. My favorite from them so far.

(Shhhhhhh..........don't tell anyone, but Triumphant has moved into my favorite quartet spot, even past the Kingdom Heirs. Never thought that would happen.....)

I agree, completely!!
That's usually the last song at their concerts, and it brings everybody to their feet. What a GREAT SONG!!!

When I first listened to the album, that song didn't really grab my attention. Then I heard them do it in concert and I couldn't get enough. Great song!

I'm quite shocked myself. I loaded up on their CDs at NQC and have really enjoyed them. I think I picked up 11 from Triumphant that I didn't already have.

I really liked the song before I saw them live, except for the broadcast of NQC from last year on INSP. I had never seen them in person before NQC and I was blown away by their class and presentation from the stage. Their booth was what won me over. What a great group of guys....

The song is much better in person, but is still awesome on the recording. I can't wait to see them again.....

Dinana -> RE: Trading Stars on SG projects (10/2/2007 8:35:26 AM)

Last year when Jeff was driving home from NQC (he wasn't on the bus - he was driving a van and trailer), he broke down before he got back to Pigeon Forge. He had to call Eric to come and get him. While he was waiting, he pulled out his keyboard and started writing. He was just trying to get home - and then the song came to him "I Know I'm Going Home" about REALLY going home!!!! I love the story and I love the song.

This year after NQC, we were driving home and were going to stop and see Triumphant in Calhoun, GA. The bus and the van/trailer were pulled over on the side of the interstate. We doubled back to see if we could help (yeah, right!) but they had already gotten back on the road before we got back to them. Donna was going to ask if they had stopped so Jeff could write another song!!!

I wish i could give you my feelings on this cd, but, i still haven't gotten this one yet, or even heard it yet. I falling behind on a lot of the new projects out there. Just can't keep up.

If you get only five projects this year, this one should probably be one of them. The Perrys' new one should also be on that short list.

danielmount -> RE: Trading Stars on SG projects (10/2/2007 10:08:32 AM)

It looks like the favorite songs for virtually everyone on this project are "I Know I'm Going Home" and "He Rescued Me," followed fairly closely by "The Old White Flag" and "The Great I Am Still Is."

fossinater -> RE: Trading Stars on SG projects (10/2/2007 10:56:48 AM)
