Johnny Cook's comeback in SG was with the Statesmen, when Mr Hovie briefly recreated them in the 90's. I knew Johnny pretty well...preached 2 revivals for him when he pastored FBC Courtland, AL...in fact, Mike Speck did the music for me both times...Johnny also sang at many of my Area-wide Crusades in the 80's...never heard him mention anything about being with FB's. I'll ask J. Minick. Don't know what this has to do with AR singers...although Speck lived in AR for several years when he workd with me..he also served a church in Ft Smith, AR. He and Faye are from MI.

You got me interested now though. Will be in the studio with Johnny next week, so I am going to ask about Cook's career before and after the Happy Goodmans. Johnny Cook died in Memphis, I believe. He was an employee of Baptist Hospital there...left that job to join the Statesmen...got his old job back after the "road" proved to be too hard on his health. He did love singing in AR.. He was very well received at our Major Bible conferences and crusades. He was also very popular in the El dorado area of South AR.

Would anyone object to me putting Paul Boden on this list. He sang with Wonder State Qt for many years...in the early days of SG...Paul was the longtime Editor/founder of U.S. Gospel News. What about pianists? Anyone want to nominate Ellen Marsh?

Thank you to everyone who made this ole Arkansas Traveler feel at home at the 50th Annual National Quartet Convention! All of our new friends, from this forum, were extremely kind to Kathy and me. Thank you for your sweet welcome to the world of SG @ NQC ARKANSAS SINGERS/MUSICIANS I SAW and/or talked with while in Louisville at NQC were: Mark Trammel (and family), Gerald Williams and ALL the "Melody Boys" Alex Minick (Johnny Minick Family) Joyce Martin Sanders Debbie Bennett I am praying extra hard today for DeeAnn and qtman as slight "drooling" continues...that most assuredly will crescendo into a flood of envy after 6pm...as they see the D-Mc Attack thunder through, over and around a fleeting low tide of bloody crimson.
