I love this thread here. I loved seeing Roger in Denver several times. Ramona, where are you in CO? Email me privately. Thanks everyone for keeping Roger's memories alive. He will always be remembered by all. I wrote a note to him years ago, way before he was very sick, and he said in person he was putting it in his scrap book. I too hope that we get the blessing of buying the dvd or video of the service. I know L5 will be in Colorado Springs in April. May try to make it there for the 90 minute ride. I tried getting in and listening to the service, but I couldn't access the link even though I cut and pasted it. I may be having some sound issues with my computer. Need to check it out. Feels like I just discovered a new family of brothers and sisters here. carolg

I'm especially glad to see that Signature Sound was there. Of all the great singers who traveled with Scott during his Cathedrals years, Ernie is now the only one left. I'm glad to see they could make it. I was also glad to hear of all the other Cathedrals who were there--at least Mark Trammell, Danny Funderburk, Kirk Talley, and Gerald Wolfe, and maybe a few of the earlier ones.

Wow! What a service. I was glad to see the turn out of people from other groups. It was so touching that groups from all over the country would come and honor Roger. Here are a few I saw not already listed. Les Beasly and Family Gene McDonald Nick Trammel Matt Felts Brad Smith I had a chance to talk with some of these and others. I heard this over and over, "We never thought we would lose him. He had beaten it so many times, we took it for granted." I think we all did. We will miss you Roger!!!

That the time was critical.....I only regret that I didn't pray more for him when he was up and about, able to send out L5 eletters and post in Midnight Meditations, and even perform with Legacy Five.....so did we fail him? Did we?? We, who were supposed to "hold the ropes"? It made me realize I've taken alot of things for granted in this life that were never garunteed: loved ones, good living conditions, even things....."for what is our life? Does anyone know if the stream of the funeral is archived? I tried several times yesterday and today and have never been able to access it. I'm assuming that the servers were too busy.

My understanding is the funeral was not to be achieved it was live only. Also, GCQF, I did see Gene McDonald and his family and I believe Les & Clarke Beasley were on the list together and Nick was listed with his family. I didn't know you were going I wish we could have met. And Harvester, I didn't see Steve but wish I had, also Earl Brewer was there. I know there were others probably that I missed as we

L5FanLady, I know what you are feeling, I have felt the same way the last few days. I've asked Lord would one more prayer have changed things, but I don't think it would have. We as fans did the only thing we could and that was pray. But like I said in an earlier post, we forget that God answers ALL prayers its just sometimes the answer was no. Its a valid answer and something we must accept. God had finished Rogers mansion, he knew Roger had fought a noble fight and gave Him the glory all through that fight and He decided it was time for Roger to rest. It was time for him to be at peace. So, no I don't think all of our prayers was going to change Gods mind. He knew what was best for Roger and going Home was it. quote:

So much I could say....thank you, savannahgirl.....it was hard seeing Roger the last 18 mos. to one year of his life....he looked so tired, so weak. It would be beyond selfish for us to have him here despite his suffering. It would literally have taken a God-sized miracle for him to pull thru that last time (Though I now God is able...) I know that Roger is better where he is, but I---we---miss him terribly here. We WILL see him again!! I was just reading my Bible, and I wanted to find this verse again: "But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day." Prov. 4:18 Isn't that beautiful? Roger has reached his perfect day! And this verse which is directly opposed to the tendencies of human nature: "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Psalm 116:15 And this is our hope, though we miss Roger dearly: "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." I Thess. 4:13-18

This is my first time to post having just joined. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Singing News for the wonderful site they have provided to help those that loved Roger Bennett deal with his passing. I was reading the most recent posts about Roger and the question if more prayer would have produced a different result. I have been a Ropeholder from the beginning and just went back to Roger's Journal to look at his February 5, 2007, post (Seasons). This was the last post that Roger shared with us. I can't help but believe that he was trying to prepare us for his homegoing. In this post he speaks to the fact that Christians are the worst people to accept what God says sometimes. Roger said there are all types of "seasons", i.e. happy, sad, discouraged, and that we should live in each and every one whether they're good or not so good. God has three answers: "yes", "no", and "wait". Personally, I usually have a problem with the last two, especially right now. I'm working on it (and me), but I'm still a work-in-progress. As all the Ropeholders, and so many others, believe, Roger Bennett was truly a remarkable man who we loved dearly. We grieve his passing for the obvious reason, namely, our overwhelming sense of loss of such a amazing man who truly loved his Lord and “the folks”. While Christians know that he has “graduated” with his new heavenly body, he will most assuredly be missed with the void that remains. I'm not certain how I should be listing my name and will obviously get better at this as time goes on. I have really been getting into this watching the different posts talking to each other.

Just wanted to say thanks to all the folks who worked so hard yesterday so that those of us who loved Roger could share in the funeral. It meant a lot to me. So thanks to those at Brentwood church; to the Singing News staff; and to the posters here who helped keep us up-to-date on the links so we could get on in time. Also to anyone else who was involved that I don't know about!

Karen, welcome! Some of us do use our own name; I'm an example. AdamEdwards and DeeAnnBailey also go use their own names. libbistuffle has on the few times she's posted here. Other members go by their first names. Some of the ones who use their first names pretty regularly are: DJSfromCleveland: David Stuart JimC: Jim Dinana: Diana GVfan: Donna (Diana's twin sister) L5FanLady: Tina L5Ropeholder: Brian DieHardKingsmenFan: Josh ScreamingTenorManFan: Noah Then there are some members of the board who go exclusively by their usernames, such as Ps103, Kerrlaw1 (who goes by Kerr), and SmokyMtnSanta (who goes by Santa). And we have a few completely anonymous members, too, such as Amerigrammy and Amerigrandpa.

I would like to say that we have lost a truly good friend and wonderful person. He makes that piano sing and what a blessing that has been for me and my husband. I went to school in Lynn AR and that is about 9 miles from where Roger went to school. He was a fine christian and a wonderful pianoist. May God bless his family and may Legacy Five continue to do the work that Roger helped start. Roger is playing for our Lord Jesus. In His Love and Prayers. Bill and Teresa Bussey South Carolina

I am new to posting also, bear with me please. My wife and I were reminicing over the memories we have of Roger, how very impressed we were with him when we first saw the Cathedrals back in 1992. How we remember when, in a concert in Ft. Wayne IN, we heard him announce his diaganosis of lukemia, and how there was not a dry eye in the auditorium, except his. We especially laughed at the way he, when someone would walk to the stage to take a picture, would lean way over and make a silly face at them. It was our pleasure, and honor, to help with seating at an L5 concert in Syracuse, IN, and being there early, we got to watch them rehearsing, and chat with Roger for a while. My wife requested he sing Homeland, and during the performance he mentioned that request, and had her to stand up, then said "I'm not going to do it", but of course he did, and she was thrilled! Roger's life has touched untold thousands of people, through his wit, his music, and his testimony, and he wil be missed.
