Friday Night- I recieved free tickets to go see the Martins in concert. I had never been able to be with the martins in concert before, so i was anticipating seeing them (when i found out i had free tickets lol). They did an admirable job. The line up was Judy Martin Hess, Jonathan Martin and Melissa Brady (wife of Jim Brady from the booth brothers). Jonathan announced that Joyce had stepped away from touring with the martins and is focusing on other ministry opportunities. Still the group had a great sound. To be totally honest, i was not blown away. Now they did an outstanding job on accapella numbers! The groups sound was good however...they did a good mixture of older and newer martin songs. The sound was a little off that night, as they were using the church's sound system. I would imagine that there were 300 or more in attendance. Tickets at the door were $10.00 or 8.00 in advance. It was a great family night outing...a lot of families in attendance. Sunday Night- Jr Combs and Southern Joy's anniversary sing. This was one really great concert! It featured groups that most may not have heard, but there is alot of unheard talent in our industry. The line up was Calvary's Voice, Griffith and Company, The Gibbs family, and Southern Joy. Every group only had the chance to sing about 6 or 7 songs. Calvary's Voice- i've written about this group before, but they are doing a great job! A very good mens trio based out of yulee/jacksonville, fl area. They have a single going out called "He's already in your tommorow" (the KH did this one of their projects). The group consists of Greg Chapman, Bryan Hatton, and David Crews. They did a good mix of accapella and songs off their past and new cds. calvarysvoice.org Griffith and company- Great mixed trio out of alabama. Tony Griffith heads up the group with his sister and another young lady singing. Great sound! They have a bowlings/mike and kelly bowling/new hinsonish sound. Good mix of progressive and traditional SG. I would say they would lean to the progressive side a little bit. Good mix of new (to some) and familiar songs. Very good stage presence. Very nice people also. I enjoyed hearing them for the first time. myspace.com/griffithandco The Gibbs Family- This is a family group that comes from Titusville/Scottsmoore Florida. Vernon Gibbs Sr. heads up this group and is the family's emcee and bass singer/bassplayer. The group consists of: Vernon, wife Susan (vocal), Their daughter and son in law Tasha and Kyle(vocals), Sons: Vernon Jr(vocals/guitar) and Timothy (vocals, keyboard/drums). Great family harmony and great spirit. I am personal friends of theirs (filled in on piano for them on occasion), so i know how they live off the bus and on stage. Great people! They did a mix of familiar songs. Shouting Time, Can't nobody do me like Jesus, Yes I am...to name a few on their short set. www.thegibbsfamily.com Southern Joy- Jr Combs has been singing tenor for many years. He has sang with just to name a few: Caananland boys, the coastalmen, and new gathering. Bro. Combs a few years ago put together a family group with his son and daughter. Already they have recieved national recognition...they won the 06 nqc talent contest. They are a great family with a GREAT SOUND. The family consists of Jr, his son wesley (13) and his daughter Jessica (19). They all sing very high and in great harmony. They sang a good mix of songs and the crowd ate it up. I've had the priveledge to get to know this family personally over the last few years and they are wonderful people who love God and this music. www.southernjoy.org It was a wonderful night. All the groups sang great and there was a really good spirit of unity there. No charge for the sing, a love offering was taken. Also, the church was PACKED! I would imagine that there were possibly close to 400 people. Great mixture of ages to support this sing. That was my weekend...how was yours?

We saw a Regional Group tonight Enlisted. They really did a great job. Thought once Joey was gonna take up preaching. It was a small Church but full of people and over flowing with the Holy Spirit.

I was able to see the Dills last night. They are two brothers and their wives, Shawn & Leanne along with Tim & Bridget and 10 year old Kala Dill singing. What a good time was had. Their singing gets better every time I see them. When the service was over Tim gave an alter call. There were several that came to the alter for rededication of their life. What better end could you have for a service than someone comming back to the Lord?

I had an SG filled weekend. Most of the groups were on the local/regional level, however they were still great Friday night i attended a concert with the Romans Road Trio out of Waycross, Ga. The concert was at old kings road baptist church in jacksonville. It is a fairly small size church but they have local/regional groups in once a month. Due to very bad weather this weekend, the crowd was small. I would say there was about 20 people, but it was really a great evening! The group did NOT let the smaller crowd dampen their spirits...they sang for a long first set. One of the members is an EXCELLENT guitar player...so the guys sang some hymns and familiar songs and the crowd loved it! They also took time to testify and share from their hearts. At the close, 2 young people came to the altar for salvation (it was not officially announced, but i'm pretty sure that was what it was for). I'm sure that just those 2 souls made the whole trip worth it! Saturday, I attended a yearly outdoor barbecue/community southern gospel concert held at the Lannie Rd Baptist church. The number of attendees grows every year. This year they had Local favorite Holy Ground Trio, and National Group: The Browders. Holy Ground did a wonderful job singing and testifying. It is always great that even in an outdoor event the presense of the Lord can make Himself known. Holy ground has a great sound! www.holygroundtrio.com Radio promoters (no i'm not a part of their group) they have a single on one of the newer lamp compilations...i'm sure you'll enjoy it! :) The browders were also there and they sang some of their more popular songs, including "stand up for Jesus". The crowd loved them and have become more and more popular in our area. It was the first time i heard them in full concert. I purchased their new cd and it is really good! One thing, these guys are SERIOUS about their call to ministry. You could tell that they have genuince concern for people...they are the real deal. This was true with all the groups there saturday. I would assume there were maybe 400 people came and went that day. All the groups did a few sets, so it was really nice! Great day... Saturday evening- I went and saw Jr. Combs and Southern Joy. I've written about them before, and as always, they never dissapoint. It was at a smaller church in the area, but a fairly good crowd. Great singing and a great time of ministering. Oh and 13 year old wesley can really tear up "Preach The Word" haha

Triumphant Quartet was in Texas this weekend. I got to see them in Terrell Tx. at Lake Country Jubilee on Sat night along with the Pfiefers and Mark Trammell Trio. Then Sunday night at the First Baptist Church in Graham, Tx. This one was Triumphant only. Just the way I like it! They outdid themselves. They sang many of my favs. I especially loved "I WISH IT WOULD RAIN". And it rained literally all of our 3hour drive home, but we didn't mind all that much.... Hope they get back to my area soon.

We attended the Soul'd Out Quartet concert in Arkansas on Saturday night. Tanner (whoops) hog fan did a GREAT job! Of course he was in his hometown and the real hero!!! They made us laugh, they made us cry and they simply blessed our hearts. If you get a chance to see their concert, please do. I promise you will not be disappointed. Back in my hometown in Missouri we went to a Spoken 4 concert. A rare treat to have any group in our small town.

I'm glad to finally hear from you!!! Are you going to post the pictures and videos on MySpace? The pictures (or most) are already on there. They are in "The Quartets" album. Videos might be a little tricker...I've only got dial up at home and can't access myspace here at work with my fast internet.

Thanks for asking. Spoken 4 was very good too. Their lead (Jon Charles Taggart) is home resting after surgery so they had Chuck Crain to fill in. We love these guys too. We have been following them for over a year now and consider all of them friends.

ORIGINAL: Dinana This is kind of old news, but I was finally able to get these two large videos from the Ivan Parker concert to convert properly with my software. Love Called My Name I Choose That's okay.....a couple of weeks' delay is fine with me!! "Love Called My Name" is one of my favorites off of this years' SN "freebie" for subscribing, Just Call It Southern (or something like that). I like "I Choose" too. Didn't Rodney Griffin write it?

We spent the day at Hoofers yesterday. Got there as the first solist was finishing her talent compeition. They had over 35 enties in the talent contest. One of the best talent contest I've ever been to. NO BAD talent was there, every artist was great. A young 12 year old girl from Blue Ridge, GA won second place in the solo contest. She was a great singer. A group we had met and saw sing before won the semi-pro group. They were the Gentrys from Kingston, GA. The talent contest raised $3500. for hospice. All the entry fees are donated to hospice. Over $5000.00 in prizes are donated to the winners. Contestants came from as far as Nebraska. The concert last night was also great. Had not seen the Isaacs for a while. Almost didn't recognize Ben with that curly hair. He looks so much younger now. They did a tremendous job singing and playing. Michael Combs did a great program also. He sang a song that I really like to hear him sing that we hadn't heard in a long time, 'Johnny'. This is a song we like because it is about him meeting Johnny Hunt our pastor and it tells how Johnny led him to the Lord and they will all be in Heaven. Aaron Wilburn......Well you just can't describe him.....He kept you laughing from the time he started until he quite....Prior to the program I was talking with him, Michael Combs came over with him parents and inttroduced them to Aaron....Aaron began talking about AL and a video he was gonna shoot for the AL it was gonna be in the coon dog cemetary. I nearly cracked up with stroies he told about the coon dog cemetary which was actual stories about the burial of the coon dogs in that part of the country. Hoofers is a great place for music, they have all types of programs there. In August Primitive Quartet and Booth Brothers will be there. The best seafood buffet anywhere. They also have a concession stand with hand made hamburgers and wonderful chicken fingers. You can top it off with a large chocolate nut sunday.

Yes Bobby there really is a coon dog cemetary here in Alabama. Some of those people think more of their coon dogs than they do their wives. Not me though.

I found their website www.coondogcemetery.com It's verrrry interesting. You would have to be from AL to come up with something like that.
