Saturday 01/26/08 I attended the Lenoir Gospel Winterfest in Lenoir NC. It was an awesome evening. The auditorium was packed and the crowd came ready for a great time! Here are some highlights in order of appearance. *McKameys - They started the show with an enthusiastic response from the crowd. They delivered that same 'down home' style they are known for. "The Old Stream" and "I've Won" were highlights of their set. Peg's shoes went flying before the end of "I've Won". *Greenes - When I talk about the Greenes, I refer to the Amy Lambert years quite a bit. Why; because during that time they were one of my favorite groups. Their current line-up (vocal blend) rivals that time period and the Greenes have moved back among my favorite trios in Southern Gospel. Their set/song selection was outstanding. "Had It Not Been", "When I Knelt, The Blood Fell", "Stand By The River" and "I Can't Even Walk" (this song brought the house down) were all highlights. *Triumphant Quartet - They had the set of the night. The crowd loved every minute of their performance. "Old White Flag" received a thunderous standing ovation and the crowd wanted more. They closed the first set with "He Is" and by the end of the song the crowd was already on its feet. With a performance like they had Saturday they remain my current favorite quartet. *Hoppers - The Hoppers closed the first half of the program in grand style. They wowed the crowd with their regular crowd pleasers "Jerusalem" and "Shouting Time". But for me the most touching moment of their set came with the performance of "God Already Knew". It is hard to assemble a line up like this and not have a great time. I walked away with the feeling 2008 is going to be a great year for concerts!

I had thought this past weekend was going to be full of SGM but it turned out it was full of coughing and stumbling (inner ear takes your balance!) But this coming weekend will be different!!!! MTT, Perrys, Crabbs and Driven all in one weekend! Great times are coming!

Dinana... You did an excellent job reporting on Greater Vision last night. Videos were good. Didn't they sing good and for a long time nearly two hours. Sure surprised us that they sang so much. We really enjoyed them.

ORIGINAL: Dinana GVfan and I went to a wonderful Greater Vision concert last night. I'll do something different and just let these video clips speak for themselves!! These are in alphabetical order - and no, I didn't video EVERY song!! Yes, the concert was teriffic. I was very pleased that it lasted almost two hours. So many times when concerts are done at the Sunday night worship timeslot, the concerts stay right at 1 hr. I can say that I left the church very satisfied and happy! Something that I found very memorable about this concert was that Gerald shared some personal things from his life. This is very unsual and it really touched my heart. He told of how his "Granny" had pancreatic cancer and they had moved her into the Wolfe's home (Gerald was just a young 'un at the time). He told how he remembers hearing his mother play the song, "Til The Storm Passes By" over and over and over. He remembers his mother praying and praying for her mother and listening to that song. Very touching story about how God saw her through the storm. BTW, Gerald attributes his love of story-telling to his "Granny." Then the group sang their updated version of this classic song. Awesome. I bought ten more copies of Rodney Griffin's book, God Wants to Hear You Sing, and Rodney was sweet to autograph a couple of them for me (I didn't have the heart to ask for all ten to be autographed, but I'm sure Rodney would have done it!). If you haven't read this little book, you ought to. It's very motivational and has wonderful stories about how the words of Rodney's songs have touched many hearts, especially during difficult times. You owe it to your self to get this book!!! I've bought extras so that I can give them to people who are hurting or could otherwise be blessed by it. Oh, but there was one bad thing. Dinana and I went to First Baptist/Atlanta to hear GV sing at their morning worship. We went to the early service (I wrote about it in these threads) and I made the assumption that they would sing the same songs at the 2nd service. Gerald told me last night that they sang DIFFERENT songs at the 2nd service.....and one of the songs they sang is my current favorite, God Will Pass By. I was so very disappointed that I missed that (Diana thought we were going to stay for both, but I wanted to get home and go to lunch with my husband). So, I just went home and watched "my song" on the Chicago Live video before I went to bed! Boy, God is so good. I got to go to two wonderful concerts this weekend. I know that Dinana goes to more than that on many weekends, but I just don't know if I could possibly stand that much blessing in one weekend!!!

Here's the song list from the Greater Vision concert - Tell Me the Story of Jesus with I Love to Tell the Story Paid In Full Thru Jesus, Amen Peace Like a River He'd Still Been God As I Am You Can Redeemed Medley I Know He Heard My Prayer I've Never Been Sorry It Is No Secret What God Can Do Faces It Means Just What It Says My Name Is Lazarus (my personal favorite!) I Rejoice in the Lord (hymn that I had never heard) Til the Storm Passes By God Is So Good (leading to altar call) God Wants to Hear You Sing They sang all of these with just a very short break for the love offering. It really was fantastic!

On Saturday night I was able to see the Mark Tramell Trio along with Mark's brother Jerry Tramell. Jerry now has a solo ministery and travels with his wife. He sang some, told some stories, and picked on Mark by telling some of the things Mark had done as a child. Jerry now has Parkins so he is subject to a lot of trembling. He handles it very well and just tells it like it is and goes on. God is useing him in a great way. The MTT did a awesome job of their set of the program. They never sounded better in my opinion. Even though Eric was hurting from all of the news about his father Ernie Phillips, and the surgery the next day, he went on as the good troper that he is. Never sounded better as he closed the program with my all time favorite song. At the very close of the program, Mark did mention Ernie and the comming surgery the next day, he asked Eric to step down on the main floor and everyone else to come foreward as he prayed for Ernie, the surgery, the surgeon, and all of the family. Eric's aunt, and Ernie's sister and brother-in-law were in attendance also. It was a very touching time with everyone comming to pray for their fellow christian. A very good time was had by all that came out that night.

Drove to Arlington, TX Saturday night to attended Frontier Winterfest were Austins Bridge was appearing along with Julian Drive. Austins Bridge performed several songs, most being brand new ones that they are putting on their upcoming album. All the songs sounded terrific! There were hundreds of young people there being ministered to in singing and preaching, by Bro. Tommy Bates. It was a wonderful night of worship, wish I could do it again!

Dinana I will have to wait until I get home to hear the clips. Our system here at work blocks that site.

Friday night Phil Cross and Poet Voices was at our church in Arlington TX. What a night! After working through a couple sound system problems Phil introduced us to a new song, not even recorded yet. He also closed with a new "alter call" song that was very special and again not yet recorded. Poet's Voice with the addition of Michel Jon has a wonderful sound, fresh and exciting. They'll get even better as the grow together. Saturday night was Lake Country Jubilee in Terrel TX. King's Heralds are a great quartet with a different sound. Sort of a blend of traditional, contemporary, barbershop and southern. Phil Cross and Poet's Voices were great and you can really feel the worship as Phil not only sings, but brings the audience into worship with him. The headliners were Gold City. They sounded better than I have ever heard them. All the guys were in great voice and they've been together long enough to have perfected their blend. Aaron is coming into his own as a bass and as a soloist, Danny improves all the time, Jonathan is as exciting as ever and Steve was tremendous. All in all it was a very special weekend.

I definately wish I'd been able to see Gold City as well!

Saw a sold out concert Saturday night at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, KY with the Perry Sisters and Crabb Revival. A choir started the night. I didn't catch the name, but they were great! I hadn't seen the Perry Sisters in years. A lot has changed, but they were very good. Diana is still very active, now with her daughter and niece performing with her. The best part of the evening, though, was definitely Crabb Revival! If anyone has any doubt about this group and their heritage, you need to see them in person! Crabb Revival is forging their own way as a group, not just a Crabb Family knock off. Though they did some Crabb Family songs, they did it with their own style. One of my favorites was a medley they did of some old Crabb songs, such as "The Reason that I'm Standing" and "Somethin's Goin' On in the Graveyard." Their rendition and the band's performance was flawless. Such great harmonies, too! They other songs they did were newly written by Gerald Crabb or members of Crabb Revival. They were phenomenal! This group is going somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if they passed the success of the Crabb Family. Their spirit and concern for souls was also very prominent as a focus of the group. Adam and Terah did a great job. Both of them have stepped out of their comfort zone and that is contributing to their success. I would highly recommend seeing them in concert!
