GVFan: Thanks for that excellent report. It makes me wish I could have been in two places at the same time, which apparently the Lee College Choir can manage, as they were also at Family Fest this weekend. We were wondering why the Isaacs and the Booth Brothers were not at Family Fest on Friday night (they were there the rest of the weekend). I see now that they were double dipping. I love listening to Ken Davis and I am sure that he was great. Also would have loved to see the Cathedrals tribute. Thanks again.

Then, special guest Larnell Harris came on stage. Now, I have always enjoyed Larnell on the Gaither tapes and on specials with Sandy Patti. But, a live performance by Larnell is simply unbelievable. His stage presence is awesome. And the sound that comes out of his mouth is incredible. He sang for about 30 minutes. My favorite song was "I've Just Seen Jesus" with a special guest soprano (unknown to me). Incredible! If she sounded like Sandy, might she have been Allison Durham Speer?quote:
No, I would have instantly recognized Allison. This was a local soprano that sounded very much like Sandi. I just didn't pick up on her name!

The quotes are quite messed up in your post. I edited it above to add a / after my last question, and a second end-quote-tag after your post. That gets it closer, but I'm not sure even that fixes it entirely.

Last night, Thursday 5/31/07, I went to Lincolnton NC to see the Hoppers. I had a friend ask me one time, of all the times in a year I see the Hoppers don't I ever get tired of their program. The answer to that question is no. Every time I see the Hoppers they have a different program. Sure they sing many of the same songs but the placement of those songs in the program are many times different. There are also different songs sung one time and not another. I enjoy a group that can create variety in their song selection with each performance. The crowd was loud and enthusiastic, offering applause and ovations. I always seem to enjoy a concert more when there is only one artist on the program. Hoppers, thanks for another classy, first class performance! Song List: Freedom Band / My Only Option / Yahweh / Yes I Am / Try A Little Kindness / Grace Will Always Be Greater Than Sin / I've Come Too Far / The Dove / Jerusalem / What A Lovely Name / Shouting Time 2nd Set: Marriage Supper Of The Lamb / I'm Just Waiting On My Ride / The River / We Are America

I finally have my tickets confirmed for June 30th for the Mull's sing. Will be looking for many of you that night. Maybe I can wear something red so you will recognize me.

Man, on man, you've got to see The Browns! They are fantastic. Last night we went to see The Browns and the Diplomats. The Browns are a mother with her four "kids" ranging from 11 to 22. They have a very refreshing sound and they are all extremely talented. They sang several songs written by the two oldest siblings, both girls. I bought a CD and a DVD just so that I could make sure I got all the words from their songs. Michaela, the 19-year old girl, has a beautiful low voice and she sings with a lot of animation. I really enjoyed hearing her and watching her delivery. The oldest girl, Jessica, sings soprano and she has a lovely voice and great poise. The 17-year old young man, Adam, is a heart-breaker. Bet he has teenage fans (girls) all over this country! He has a very pleasant, but not overpowering, voice. The little boy, Andrew, is the self-proclaimed "life of the party." He's cute as a button, but he can really belt one out, too! The Mom, Shelley, has a beautiful voice and she is the glue that holds it all together. She did most of the emcee duties, but each of kids had several opportunities to speak. And, all of the kids played their violins during the concert. I enjoyed that, too. The Diplomats are a great, old-time, solid Southern Gospel group. They sang a lot of old familiar songs, but also sang some newer songs that I had not heard before. The audience really got into their music and each of the singers had at least one solo. Great, great music and a lot of heart. They gave an excellent altar call and many people went down to pray. Very spirit-filled and spirit-led time. I will definitely go to hear the Diplomats again....which will be pretty easy since they are from a town within about 40 miles of us. BTW, Eva Mae Lefevre came to this concert and she looks wonderful. They did not ask her to talk or sing, but that's okay. Just having her at the concert was really special. And, JimC arrived at the intermission (he has a new job that is keeping him working until about 8pm). It was good to see him again. And an unexpected treat came when the congregation stood and sang several "invitation"-type songs. Jim sat behind me and I was able to hear his beautiful tenor voice! Jim, I had no idea you could sing so purty! It was a great Friday night! I'm going to be "forced" to go to another concert tonight, featuring Greater Vision , Mark Trammell Trio and Triumphant Quartet. After two nights of this stuff, my feet may not touch the ground tomorrow!

(AWWW, SHUCKS) It was good to see you and Gene, Dinana, Eva Mae, et al, and to get to a concert again! We can thank Bobby and Carol York for another great concert. Tonight is going to be great, and then next weekend is the Diplomats' homecoming: Karen Peck & New River, Brian Free & Assurance, The Dixie Echos, The Mark Trammell Trio, Little Ernie Phillips and Land of the Sky Boys. Quite a lineup after a protracted 'dry spell'.

I WENT to hear Gold City last night...I didn't get in, though, because the church with only 475 seats that had them in for a love offering concert was already full when I got there. That's a good problem to have, I suppose...I just wish the message they had on their answering machine when I called had mentioned the fact that seating was so limited for a group of this level.

Maybe they had never 'filled the church' before so they didn't know????

Well, ordered may have beena better word. I usually pick them up the night of the concert. Had to wait to be sure I was off from work. I think you are going to Gainesville tonight. Have fun. Wish we could be there. Most of my favorites are there. Tell Scotty I will look for him in church in the morning. Would ask you to say hello from Santa but I know them all so that would take a while. Travel safe.

I'm almost at a loss for words to describe last night. Getting to see The Mark Trammell Trio (With Steve Hurst), Greater Vision and Triumphant the same night was almost too good to be true. On the way home we all agreed that everybody was on their "A Game" ......none of them ever sounded any better. I did come away with something to look forward to: MTT did a medley called "When I Say Jesus", which was one of the prettiest songs they've done recently Mark told me this song is on the new video they just shot with the Diplomats. They will be back here next Friday for the Diplomats' homecoming....I look forward to hearing it again. Maybe Robert York, Dinana or GVFan can add to this..... It was a night I'll not soon forget.

It was a great night - three top-tier groups on the same program. Each of the groups have their own styles and personalities so it was easy to enjoy them for their own strengths and personalities. I might post a song list later but for now I'll just give a few comments. I thought the Mark Trammell Trio was as good as I've ever seen them. Each of the guys - including Steve Hurst - did a wonderful job and I enjoyed their song selections tremendously. I always enjoy Mark Trammell for his gentle, peaceful demeanor and I just love his voice. Eric and Dustin both sang wonderfully. Dustin's family was there, so that was special! If Scott Inman doesn't get Young Artist, I'd love for Dustin to get it!!! If I had to pick my favorite, it would pick "Just a Little Closer Home." Then came Triumphant. Wow! I really enjoyed a song they pulled out from long ago --- One Day at a Time! I know a lot of people heard that one until they were sick of it when it was done by Christy Lane years ago, but I hadn't heard it in a while and I've always loved it!! They did 4 of the songs from their new album, and I would've liked to have heard more of those, but I really did enjoy the ones they did sing. I can't pick just one favorite from Triumphant -- I'd have to say it was a tie between "The Great I Am Still Is" (Scotty is fabulous on this song!) and "I Know I'm Going Home" - both from their new you Gotta Love It album. This was only the second performance since Greater Vision took about a month off and I think they were glad to be getting back to work! They really had a varied program and sang quite a number of their older hits as well as several from the new Hymns of the Ages album. If I had to pick one that I liked the best it would've been "Til The Storm Passes By." Gerald is just so outstanding on that one!!! Danny Jones from Singing News was the emcee (he's really a good emcee!!) and he mentioned something I thought was interesting --- both Scott Inman and Jason Waldroup attended Steve Hurst's music school.

Dianna, the list of artists that have or do attend Steve's school is EXTREMELY long! Look at any top tier group and you will find artists that have attended.
