I saw the Dixie Melody Boys and the Segos in concert in Jefferson GA last nght. It was a small church and the county high school graduation was at the same time. That hurt the crowd but those who came, came ready to have a good time. Bryan Walker has stepped into the lead position with DMB and is doing an awesome job. He, Andrew, Dan and Ed have a great blend and they are fun to watch. But they also have a serious side to their concerts of letting folks know that there is only one answer for any problem and that is Jesus. Ed is a legend and he deserves that 'title'. Miss Naomi, another legend, is still gracing the stage and being enjoyed by her fans. Casey and Nathan give a young touch to this group and I have to say that I've never been a big fan of the violin (or fiddle) but Nathan won me over last night! And Casey - that boy is crazy!!!! I totally enjoyed the concert and spending some time talking with the guys!

We went to see Florida Boys last night in Temple, GA. Still no Tenor, but they had a great Tenor Singer, Josh. He did a great job, maybe Les should be looking for a Lead and let Josh sing Tenor. Les did an outstanding job back on the front line singing Lead.

Just got back from seeing the Old Paths Quartet, I must say that I was really impressed with these guys, having never heard them before except for a few sound clips on the net, I really didnt know what to expect. I will definetley see them again if they come anywhere within driving distance. By the way their bass singer Brandon Barry is an amazing talent.

I got to see the Collingsworth Family on Friday night. They were great. What made it even better was that we got to hang out with them and some other friends after the concert. If you haven't seen them, I totally recommend that you go to one of their concerts, you will enjoy it.

I do get to go to a lot of concerts but there are still some groups I haven't heard yet that I'd like to. Maybe this year that will happen!

Well, Les was the lead until he fired himself just a few years back. But he sang lead from the 40s steadily through 1999. I think we can safely say he knows how. :)

I saw Soul'd Out Quartet on Friday night. Like K.B. said of another group, I had only heard a few soundclips, never anything live, although I had met a couple of the group members about a year ago. I must say, though, I was very impressed, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. This is a group I will definitely go see again!

I had the priviledge of attending the GVB - EHSS taping on Wednesday night in Louisville. It was a great show. Tons of comedic bits with Gordon, Kevin Williams and Rory. The two groups were backed by what appeared to be a full chamber orchestra from the Louisville Symphony. The show opened with "Holy Highway" and immediately brought the crowd to its feet. The highlights of the night for me were... "Sweet Sweet Spirit" as the eight guys circled around a RCA Ribbon Mic and sang acappella. "Heaven's Joy Awaits" great convention singing "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" great Marsh lead. "I Then Shall Live" such a powerful closer especially with the live strings and horns. I'd have loved to heard "It is finished" and "The King is Coming" with the orchestra. "America the Beautiful" an awesome arrangement including some other favorite patriotic tunes. Each group sang a couple of songs by themselves early on in the show but the majority of the night was with all eight guys on stage. Roy Webb was not at the concert and Ernie announced today that he's left EHSS.

I really liked the way Kerrlaw1 did his write-up of the Gaither weekend, so I'm going to write up the Legacy Five Celebration/Memorial Day weekend like he did....one concert at a time. Friday night Everyone was on "pins and needles" wondering how L5 was going to handle the fact that Roger was not at the Celebration weekend this time. Well, they handled it very well. The concert started with the "tape" of Roger singing "Joy" at last years' Celebration. Yes, there he was on the big screens, smiling at us and singing one of his favorite songs. When the choruses came around, the rest of the guys sang both live and on the tape. It was great! Our collective hearts were sad that Roger wasn't physically with us this time, but we were all joyful that he is now in Heaven! There were very few tears!!! Then, Scott Fowler recognized all vets and their families. L5 led the entire group in singing The Star Spangled Banner....a capella! Absolutely beautiful! The Voices of Lee (college group from Lee University) did their usual incredible a capella songs. It's really neat watching them because not only do they sing beautifully, but they really seem to enjoy themselves while they're singing. And their Director is a hoot. He loves those kids! The Isaacs sang next. They are just so talented. They sang eight (8) songs, ending with their a capella rendition of It Is Well. I am not a bluegrass fan, but I am always spellbound by their music. They sang my favorite Isaacs song, Yours and Mine. I love that song and it's just so appropriate for them. The Booth Brothers were next. Michael spent most of his emcee time taunting Scott Fowler about paying them more! Just hilarious! They sang nine (9) songs, including His Grace Is Sufficient for Me, All I Want is to See My Jesus, Feeling Fine, Home (??Is Where the Heart Is??), He Saw It All, a Mills-Brothers type of song (everyone around one microphone), Still Feeling Fine, While the Ages Roll and Testify. Finally....Legacy Five! They sang Strike Up the Band, Temporary Tomb, I Have Been Changed, On the Right Side of the Dirt and Walk With Me. Then they introduced Tim Partin. Scott talked about how Tim was Roger's choice and that he (Scott) felt that if Roger were looking down on the event, he would be well pleased. Then Tim did a beautiful piano medley, including "No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus" and "His Name Is Wonderful." Then Scott invited Jim Brady (The Booth Brothers) back on stage to sing "Truth Is Marching On" with them. That was really neat!! The Booth Brothers closed the concert with "Under God."

Legacy Five Celebration Weekend continued.... Saturday morning (short concert and a sermon) The Voices of Lee opened the program again. Lots of energy and incredible talent. And they did something I had never seen them do before...... they sang a song with TRACKS! Apart from singing background for L5 last year on "My, My, My," I had never heard anything except a capella from them. It was really good! Legacy Five sang several songs, Tim did another piano solo and the L5 families were introduced to us. Scott thanked the crowd for their overwhelming acceptance of Tim. Evidently, many people had gone to great lengths to assure Tim that he was welcomed by all. Scott's oldest son sang a song for us and when it was time for the families to leave the stage, the little guy didn't want to go! He wanted the microphone back again! Finally, Scott gave it to him and he started to sing the same song again. But after the 2nd or 3rd word, he realized that he had already sung that song, so he started singing a different one! It was absolutely precious! What a little ham! After the second song, he was content to leave the stage. Dr. Don Wilton from First Baptist/Spartanburg,SC delivered a message on Encouragement. It was excellent. Of course, I am very biased about Dr. Wilton. He was the host on the Holy Land trip my husband and I took last Nov/Dec. He's the one that baptised my husband and me in the Jordan River! What an incredible blessing it was to see (and hear) him again.

Legacy Five Celebration Weekend continued.... Saturday Night Legacy Five started the evening in a playful mood. They sang "Roll Away" and then"Somebody Sing." During the second song, the guys lifted Glenn's pants legs way above his knees (the highest I've ever seen them be able to get them!). Of course, he fended them off. Then the guys went after Scott's pants legs, but he was able to dodge them! Then they settled down and sang Plan of Salvation (with Gary Buckner) and ended with Meeting in the Air. The Mark Trammel Trio was next. My husband really enjoys this group. They are outstanding. They sang nine songs, ending with "Once Upon a Cross." The last song absolutely brought the house down. The standing ovation lasted for a couple of minutes! Then, special guest Larnell Harris came on stage. Now, I have always enjoyed Larnell on the Gaither tapes and on specials with Sandy Patti. But, a live performance by Larnell is simply unbelievable. His stage presence is awesome. And the sound that comes out of his mouth is incredible. He sang for about 30 minutes. My favorite song was "I've Just Seen Jesus" with a special guest soprano (unknown to me). Incredible! Just when I thought I couldn't absorb any more blessings, Ken Davis came on stage and just had the audience rolling on the floor! If you haven't seen him, it's worth a long drive just to catch him live. And he was just relentless in his teasing of Scott. He told a story about how Scott's oldest son got in trouble at school for leaving his underpants in the bathroom after he had used the bathroom. When questioned by the teacher, the little kid said his daddy didn't wear underpants! Everyone was laughing so hard we were crying. And for the rest of the weekend, everyone who came to the stage had something (funny) to say about Scott's underpants! Of course, the crowning event for the evening was the Cathedrals Remembered segment, featuring Gerald Wolfe, Danny Funderberg, Mark Trammell, Scott Fowler (who did not sing most of the time...I wondered why...maybe it was more than a little sad for him??), and Glenn Dustin as the bass. Gerald played the piano and did most of the emceeing. After a few songs, they played a tape of Roger in diferent settings, with "I've Read the Back of the Book and We Win!" in the background. Again, a wonderful tribute, but NOT a lot of tears. Just very fond remembrance of a dear, dear friend. Close to the end of the program, Gerald Wolfe encouraged us to NOT go back to our Hotel rooms and turn the TV on, but to clear our minds and listen closely for what God has to say to us....listen to what God "Whispers in the Night." They closed (of course) with Champion of Love. Scott Fowler did sing along on this song (I believe this is the only time he sang during The Cathedrals segment). What a teriffic concert!

Legacy Five Celebration Weekend continued.... Sunday morning Legacy Five sang several songs, starting with "Heaven." After the first few songs, Tim Partin spoke to the audience about how he is not trying to fill Roger's shoes, but is walking in his own. He gave a touching tribute to Roger and then he played and sang "God's Been Good." Tim is also a tenor and his voice is very similar to Roger's. Very nice. The Mark Trammell Trio was on next. They sang several songs, including one that was requested Saturday night, featuring their tenor Eric Philips. The song was "When Compared to God". (Did you request this song, ScreamingTenorManFan????). Eric was teriffic on this song...and I'm not a screaming tenor fan! Steve Hurst said a few words about his friend, Roger, and said that he thinks Roger is looking down and cheering Tim Partin on. Very touching. To end the weekend, Ken Davis brought a devotion about loving each other. It was humorous, but very thought-provoking. This was the second time I have attended the L5 Memorial Day/Celebration. But it won't be the last. My husband and I will be back again next year. If you get a chance to go, DO IT!

In fact, I hope it gets that kind of response when they do their live DVD here shortly. quote:

I loved reading it! My favorite part was the Mark Trammell Trio part. I cannot put words to my feeling when I first heard them do it live (this was a month before the CD or single came out), but I knew that it was something out of the ordinary - something along the lines of "We Shall See Jesus." It was so good that I talked my whole family into quite a drive to see them somewhere else a month later--something I've never done before (see a group twice back-to-back in a short time period).

Great post GVFan. I think you and Kerr are on to something with the breaking down of the reports. Wish I could have been there.
