ORIGINAL: jaf51463 I have a question about concerts. If you attend something like L5's Labor Day celebration (and I have reservations for it) how many concerts does that count as? I know they are scheduled to have four separate shows that weekend with several acts in each show. Would it be four concerts because of four separate shows or just one big weekend-long concert? I say go wild and count it as four concerts. It probably costs as much as four.

I have only been able to attend one this year so far. That was the Down East Boys. But just got my tickets to see EH & SS in the mail. Will see them on August 11.

Well, Dinana, JimC and I went to Tallapoosa, GA (yes, there really is a town named that) last night to see Mercy's Mark. I love going to MMQ concerts! The guys are always such a blessing to me. Their music really speaks to my heart and each group member's personality comes out. When you've finished one of their concerts, you feel like you really got to know each one of them. Josh is a strong lead singer who just keeps getting better and better. So many times on this forum, people talk about this or that singer being "underrated." That's exactly how I feel about Josh. He really is outstanding. Brent, the tenor, has been with the group just a little over a year and he has really grown on me to the point that now he's my favorite! (And to think, I was soooo upset when Anthony left. Now I'm glad he did!!). Brent sang my favorite song on their newest CD, "I'm Amazed." I love that song and Brent sings it so well and with such feeling. Christian Davis....well, what can you say about him? He used to stand still and just sing, but Garry's got him "loosened" up (or maybe it's partly due to his super-wonderful new wife!) and now he is definitely the comic relief! He is one of the very best basses in the industry and I love watching and hearing him (and I love the special little "wave" he inconspicuously gives to Dinana when he happens to look her way. And Garry Jones is just a fantastic emcee (and baritone). He's very humorous, but make no mistake, he means for the Lord to attend each concert and minister to every person in the room. When Garry talks to the audience, it feels like he's talking just to you! And last, but not least, the music was great! This group has achieved the blend that every group strives for. They are very good together. Dinana's driving down to Bolingbroke, GA right now (about a hundred miles) with a friend to see MMQ! Wish I could've gone again. Maybe she'll post tomorrow.

I was there also at Mercy's Mark Concert. Ditto to what Donna said. They did a great job and the singing was excellent.

I would really like to see them in concert. They will not be near me until late August. It appears that Something's Happening and the debut album are their only original albums. Is this correct?

If by original you mean non-classics with no "original" songs, yes. They've got Southern Selections 1 and 2 which are hymns and other SG classics and their self-titled and Something's Happening projects.

Is this correct? Something's Happening is the CD with the current lineup. I can't say enough good things about these guys. Don't miss them. They are awesome. And some of the nicest guys I've ever met.

Friday night the Gaithers were in town, I had not attended a Gaither concert since Anthony died and had not originally planned to go to this one. Some things take a while! But when I heard the Perrys would be on the concert in the place of Jeff & Sheri (Madison was graduating last night) I decided to go. This was a much smaller entourage than I'm used to with Gaither and it started a little different than the previous concerts I had attended. The singers came from the back to the stage at the beginning, singing and shaking hands with the audience. Taranda Greene was there and did 'Sky Full of Angels" and the crowd loved her. Joy Gardener was also there and did an excellant job as well. Ben Speer at 76 is still doing great. "In the Midst of it All" is a fantastic song and he did an awesome job on it. The one and only Eva Mae LeFevre was there and she was her usually outspoken and wonderful self! She did Mylon's song 'Without Him' and the crowd loved seeing her again. A lot of folks thought the Goodman sound was the reason Bill Gaither wanted the Perrys on his stage but 'I Wish I Coulda Been There' was the song he had them open with and encore. It turns out that after being recommended to Bill by Mark Lowry and the Easters to tape the last video, Bill fell in love with that song and has become a Joseph fan. That was the song he wanted done. Signature Sound were their usually animated selves and the Gaither Vocal Band nailed every note in every song! They are truly masters of the stage and ministers to the heart. Rory Rigdon and Kevin Williams provided comedy often at Bill's expense. The most pleasant surprise of the night for me was the 'guest' drummer in Greg Ritchie's absence - Greg Fox! It was great to see Greg back on the drums! I missed some of the other singers and I wish the Perrys could have done more than two songs but I greatly enjoyed the concert!

Didn't want to make the previous post too long so I put tonight's (Saturday) concert in a different post. We drove to Lincolnton, GA and had a great time hearing the Perrys - this time doing a full concert. Nick is doing a great job, the blend the group has is extremely good and they just have fun singing. But they also know how to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Their music speaks to my heart and tonight was an especially sweet service. Joseph was powerful on "Who Am I" and I loved Matt's tribute to Anthony. It is so fitting that the man who has not only great ability but that special touch on the piano be the one to play for the Hall of Fame induction of Anthony!

Just one more thing about the Gaither concert, the Perrys got to sing 'The Holy Hills' after intermission when they have the Homecoming 'choir'.

Oh--did Libbi get to do Vestal's part? That alone would be worth the price of admission. I've really wanted them to record that song.

I was blessed to attend two awesome concerts this weekend. Last night we saw Crossway. I laughed, cried and was thouroughly blessed. The harmonies of these guys, even with only 3, are so amazing. I could listen to them sing accapella or with just the guitar all night long. Today we were in the presence of Gold City...another wonderful and blessed concert. They did a lot of the older stuff since they are promoting a CD with those songs on it. I really enjoyed that, as they are not selections I've heard performed live in quite some time. Wish we had weekends like this more often!!

Tonight our local Christian TV station had the Dixie Melody Boys, Naomi & the Segos, The Parton Family and Tony McGee & New Covenant on live. One of the guys called me earlier today and said they would be there so I went. Santa, Ed O'Neal and Bryan Walker said hello. I do wish I had my camera when Bryan yelled across the sound stage to Ed 'Hey Ed, Santa Claus said hello'. The lady running the program nearly lost her teeth! Then Ed shouts back 'Did you tell him I'd been good?' By this time everyone was rolling! Luckily this was NOT while they were on the air! The Segos and DMB are in Jefferson Ga tomorrow night. I may ride down for that!

Thanks Dee. Made my night. Tell Ed tomorrow night that so far he is on the good boy list. But I'm watching closely. Santa
