ORIGINAL: L5BBFan I like the fact that BFA still carrys their past CD's to many groups discontinue their past CD's if you ask me... I noticed on Zune Marketplace you can download ALL of their Albums... Yeah I love that fact. In the Kingsmen thread Bryan Hutson mentioned that they had stopped doing songs because they wanted people to be able to come to the record table and be able to buy what they had heard. Brian Free just does this by carrying EVERYTHING!!!!! Another reason they are my fav. group!!!!!

I went to the Mull's Concert in Kodak, Tennessee last Saturday night, 6/27. The Hoppers, Ivan Parker and The Dove Brothers were. All were great, but The Hoppers are my favorite. Kim's hair was beautiful - she had it in long curls. Kinda looked like Dolly Parton!

Can you imagine trying to stock 50 YEARS worth of product on their table? They have quite a legacy!!!! It seems to me that anyone who follows a group they like usually has all their product and is anxiously anticipating their newest recording! Staying on topic - I saw L5 over the weekend. Frank was really cranking it out on Holy Is Thy Name. Wow! He was dynamite!!! Believe me MOST people at a concert do not follow the group. Most are local people who either A. Attend the church it's held at, or B. Enjoy gospel music and see any big name group that comes through. I have seen the Kingsmen 12 or 13 times and have talked to many people who were seeing them for the first time at each concert. And I'm not saying that a group as old as the Kingsmen should carry everything, just that I think its really neat the BFA does this. I know their albums went back to at least 98. I think 10 yrs is probably a good baseline. Most groups release an album a year average, from what I have experienced, so 10 or 12 CD's doesnt seem too awfully troublesome to carry.

BillBaileyBFAFan - You must have misread the post you quoted. I don't see it speaking of locals that come out to a concert, but rather the idea that those who follow a group have their music. Let's stay in context. Bryan is right. Being in the business, he knows that people want to buy what they have heard when they come to the product table. If the locals are just there (at the concert) for the reasons you stated, which are: A. They attend the church the concert is held at B. Simply b/c they enjoy gospel music and see any big name group that comes through Doesn't it stand to reason they would not be familiar with any older recordings the group has? I'll agree that if I really enjoy a group and follow them, I have their music and am most certainly looking forward to new material from them!

I was speaking in contrast to those that would be following and therefore be looking for the newest release. I do get your point though, and I agree. You are probably right that the casual fan may not care what you released in 95, but want what they heard. I though as an old time fan, although I don't follow groups, do like to be able to pick up the older stuff that I may not have or may only have on cassette.

I saw Cheap Trick, Poison, & Def Leppard last week. The sound for Cheap Trick & Poison was terrible, but Def Leppard sounded good. If you're into them, then it was a good show. -Dan.

Last night I saw Brian Free & Assurance in Winston, GA. When Brian announced that this was Derrick's last concert, he received a standing ovation that lasted well over a minute. It was a very emotional moment for everybody. Derrick's parents and his wife were there for the occasion, as well as Bill's family, and Brian's family and parents. It was a great concert.

I love the Freemans. We have fortunate to have so many strong Christians families like them in the southern gospel music field. Thank you Lord and please be with Misty Freeman and her soon coming baby.

We made the 150 mile round trip up to Boyd Christian Church, near Dix, IL., last night to see Allison Durham Speer and the Booth Brothers, and it was well worth the time and the gasoline. Allison opened the concert. We had never seen her before, and in general we prefer groups to soloists, but we were glad we saw her. She has an outstanding voice with a range from low alto to opera-type soprano. She enunciates her words as well as or possibly better than any other singer we have heard. She had been to that venue before so she was singing to some people who knew her, although we had not been there when she was there. She mixed her singing with conversation and some story telling, and she did a good job achieving the proper mix and timing between the 2. Mike Allen was there, possibly coming up with Allison and her husband, and she asked him to come up and sing "I Am Redeemed" (the Phil Cross Poet Voices hit from the late 90's) with her. She noted that Mike had sung bass with Poet Voices for a time. I do not think it was rehearsed or planned, but it came off very well. He sang the first verse, with her feeding him the words and harmonizing on the end of the verse, and then she sang the rest of the song, including the narration. We enjoyed her portion of the program very much. The Booth Bros. were next, and they came out singing. After their opening song, Ronnie explained to the crowd why Michael was not there and introduced Steve Ladd as his 3 week replacement. Steve blended very well with Ronnie and Jim, resulting in that same smooth brand of harmony we have all grown to love from the Booths. He even sang Michael's signature song, "Look For Me At Jesus' Feet", and did very well (as I would have expected) on it. The biggest difference in the concert without Michael there was that we did not get the benefit of his spontaneous humor being injected into his mc duties. Ronnie did the MC work and said he was in an area he was not totally comfortable with, having to do so much talking, but he did just fine. He has a sense of humor, too, and it showed. Jim also did more talking than he usually did. Ronnie read scriptures from the Bible from the stage as part of his intro to 3 different songs, and it really set them up well, as well as reminded all of us as to why we and they were really present at the concert. I am not sure I have ever seen that at a concert before, but it went over very well. Musically, you could not have asked for anything any better than their singing last night. Ronnie and Jim were very fortunate (perhaps divine intervention) to be able to enlist the help of such a great singer and professional as Steve Ladd during Michael's absence. They also asked Mike Allen to join them to sing bass on "Feeling Fine" during the concert, and as a finale they had Mike and Allison both back on-stage to do an encore of that song. One other highlight was "Secret Place". Ronnie played acoustic guitar on that one, and Jim and Steve each sang part of the lead on it. It is a song that Michael usually sings. At the end the concert promoter came up and complimented the performance by all of them. He also complimented the Booths on their integrity, for calling him as soon as they learned that Michael would have to take 3 weeks voice rest and miss the concert. He said they offered to cancel or reschedule, but of course the promoter left it as was. The concert was sold-out, and I think they all showed up, as I did not see an empty chair in the house. This was the 4th consecutive summer the Booths had been to this venue and most people there had seen them before. I do not know how many showed up not knowing that Steve would be there and Michael not, but I doubt you would have found anyone who was sorry they came after it was over. Ronnie handled Michael's absence completlely openly and honestly and it was appreciated by everyone. I have been to a concert when a surprise replacement was there and it was not handled completely openly by the group, surprising even the promoter. Hats off to the Booth Bros., and to Steve Ladd, for their ministries. And Allison, I am glad we got to see you in person.

We saw the Kingdom Heirs twice this past Wed. at Dollywood. Great singing as usual. First time to see them for 2 years. Also, Tim Lovelace came walking up the aisle, from front toward the back just before the afternoon concert started. I suppose he was just there to see them like the rest of us, as he was not listed on any shows that day.

Sunday night Bill and I went to Smyrna, Tn and heard The Quick's. They are so awesome. Go see them if you get the chance...We also saw the new Crystal River. I was impressed. Young and on fire for God. What a combination. Last night we heard Eighth Day, Tara Jackson, The Galloways, Tony Gore and Driven. Everybody was exceptional. Earl was up to his normal antics and kept everybody laughing, Driven gave an alter call. 4 raised their hads for salvation. I love to see young people stepping into the ministry. So, I am still "high". Last but not least, Carol and Bobby are looking great. Bobby never sat down until the music had started. Busy, Busy I love Southern Gospel Music...

I went to The Singing In The Smokies on the 4th of July. Ernie Phillips sang with THE LAND OF The Sky Boys and he still makes me have chills on those high notes. Squire and his trio were there and were great as usual. I am going to see Squire this week-end and will be going back to the mountains on Sept 5th for the singing.
