Went to the Gaither concert last night with my wife and parents in Greenville SC. What an awesome night!! Everyone was great, and the new lineup of the Vocal Band was absolutely awesome. Was some what curious how much I would like them but they blew me away. David and Wes in the same group is incredible. Bill Shaw the tenor from the Blackwood Brothers was there and at 87 years old still has it. Best concert I have attended in a long time maybe ever.

We enjoyed having the Mark Trammell Trio, Jerry Trammel and Daniel Privette in Mebane, NC last Friday evening. What a powerful, fun, and blessed gospel singing. It was fun watching the love and respect between the "Trammell brothers". MTT was as great as ever and Jerry showed he still has the range, power and a tremendous testimony.

Last concert I went to was Kenny Rogers, with Savannah Jack opening. The lead singer in SJ is a cousin of the Gatlin brothers - which was weird because i'd never heard of them before but even before he'd said that i'd definately picked up on it. Kenny was fantastic, although I didn't enjoy it as much as the first time I saw him.

I saw the Crist Family Sunday morning. They have a tremendous energy and excitement in the way they sing. And I love the way they "change it up" on stage so that it doesn't get stale. There are SEVEN of them (!) and they stand in a long row sometimes, they split up into solos, duets, trios, and they change around a lot.

If you have never seen them, you owe it to yourself to find out when they'll be in your area!!! Go See Them!!! They're quite a bit different from most Southern Gospel trios and quartets. Wonderful spirit and awesome singing!

Then, last night I got to see The Old Paths. This is one of my favorite groups. I love their singing AND I love Doug's preaching along the way. Wonderful ministry!

Friday night we saw the Kingsmen in Springfield, MO, at the Glendale Christian Church. The building could seat one thousand people and they filled just about every seat in the house! Before the concert, there was a slideshow of the Kingsmen with pics of the many places they have been over the last two years. There were some trivia questions on the current group members and some old Kingsmen pictures with big Jim Hamill and Foxy.

Jonathan Edwards from the radio station introduced the Kingsmen and they started the night off with Glory Road. I was glad to hear that old favorite live again. They had all of the people clapping on their next number Meet Me At The Table. Bryan introduced Look For Me At Jesus’ Feet as Song of the Year for 2008 and Huggy Bear sang his heart out on it! I don’t know why, but I’m always so captivated when they sing that song because it is sung with such power! (I guess the Kingsmen just have a propensity for making a slow song exciting.) From there, they went into When My Feet Touch The Streets Of Gold. Of course, they encored it, which really made the crowd excited. Bryan introduced Harold, Phil, and Ray, then Ray sang his testimony song, Healing Stream, and afterwards introduced Bryan. Bryan then introduced Brandon and Cody. Of course, Bryan was giving Cody a hard time about chewing gum, buttoning his jacket and keeping his hands out of his pockets. Cody played Great Is Thy Faithfulness with How Great Thou Art for his solo and he received a standing ovation. Next, they sang He Knows My Name and My Past Has Passed, which someone requested. Bryan announced that the next song was number FOUR across the nation for the month of July (!!!!!!) and they sang The Cloud He’s Coming Back On. When they reached the part in the song where it says “when you see the cloud slippin’ along” the guys would point above and pretend to use their finger to follow a cloud. I noticed on one of the verses Harold and Bryan were doing it in-sync. Then they did another song from their new project, Gospel Road, Phil did an excellent job singing this one. After that, Bryan gave his testimony and sang When God Ran . . . And just in case you couldn’t guess, they received a standing ovation for that one!!!!!

During the offering, Cody played another solo - this one was the old Cathedrals song “I’ve Got A Born Again Feeling”. When he finished, Phil and Harold came out to do the CD pitch. As Cody walked off the stage, Phil teasingly said, “I don’t like that kid.” Harold echoes him, “Nah, I don’t either.” Phil continued, “He’s so young and talented . . . And everyone likes him more than they like us.” Harold’s shaking his head yes, and everyone in the audience was laughing at the faces he was making. Then they went into the CD pitch. Huggy had the When God Ran CD in his hand and was telling us about the songs they sang that night that were off of it, when suddenly he says, “oh no, we didn’t sing that one tonight . . .well, if you sang as many high notes as I just did your brain would be scrambled eggs too!” He continued telling us about two DVDs and Phil handed him the companion Cds. Huggy looked at Phil with this blank look on his face. (You all know the look!) Phil cooly says, “They’re called companion Cds.” Harold looked at the Cd’s thoughtfully and annuciated, “COM-PAN-ION Cd’s.” Phil said, “Yeah, companion Cd’s”. Harold repeated, “Com. . .panion Cd’s, hmmm.” Then he pointed to his head and said, “Remember, scrambled eggs!!!!”

The Kingsmen’s second set started off with Sound From The Other Side. Bryan said the next song was their brand new single, it was The Word. (I’m so glad they’re releasing that one!) Next, Bryan related that they had a load of requests at the table, so they sang a bunch of those. The first was Go and Tell Somebody. When Harold reached the end of his verse where it says “I can see his walking, then he starts to run”, he did a little “running in place”. Another request was Wish You Were Here. Bryan told Ray that they had a request to have Cody play another solo, exclaiming, “I think they like to hear him play better than hearing us sing!” So Cody played another solo, I know I recognized the tune, I just can’t remember the name of it for the life of me! When He Calls My Name followed Cody’s playing, then they went into Old Ship Of Zion acapella. Ray sure hit some great low notes on that one, and Harold probably broke everyone’s glasses in the building! I Will Rise Up From My Grave was next and Bryan held the longest note on that one! This song also received another standing ovation. Ray customarily said, “If you enjoyed the Kingsmen tonight let them know it”, like they were going to end, right? Well, the people just kept clapping and yelling to which Ray said, “I’ll tell you what, we’ll do one more, but . . .you HAVE to sit down.”. So everyone sat down, then Ray announced the next song was going to be Stand Up and everyone was on their feet before the sound track started playing! Bryan said, “When we get to the part where we sing “stand up,” I want all of you to shout “stand up,” okay?” So every time they sang “stand up” there were one thousand people shouting “stand up”!
Then, to put the icing on the cake . . . They encored it!!!!!!!!!! What a way to end the evening!

Needless to say, it was another awesome concert! The guys were really wound up and sang their hearts out on every song! Great job Kingsmen! I’ll post some pics of the concert on my photo bucket for you guys sometime later this week.

We saw the Isaacs in concert at Olney, IL, last night. It was our first time seeing them for about 5 years, so the group had changed some, but they were really good. Sonya did an excellent job as the mc, and their abilites to play their instruments as well as sing is still very much with them.
They sang a lot of their hits, including my favorite (Heros) and even went back and sang I've Come To Take You Home by request from someone. They were energetic, fun-filled, yet serious and on-message, all at the same time. I am still amazed at their ability to sing acapella, and change keys without a pause, transitioning from one key to another without ever losing their harmony. I really appreciate harmony singing, and I really appreciate them.
They did selections from several of their recent albums, and featured the vocal abilities of each of them, including Lily. They also did some selections from a yet-to-be-released project. In their words, the songs on it are either acapella or very acoustic. It contains some songs we all know, but in their unique style. For example: Three Bells, done by Jim Ed Brown and his sisters many years ago, Healing Stream, done by Larry Gatlin, and also by the Kingsmen, and Jesus Cares For Me, which I remember Gold City doing.
The crowd at the Free Methodist Church was overflowing, and everyone really seemed to enjoy the evening and appreciate the songs and ministry of the Isaacs. We were certainly glad we drove the 150 mile round trip to be there.

Thursday night we saw the Kingsmen in Metropolis, IL, at the Superman Festival. They sang at the Metro Tent which was set up on Superman Square. Before the concert, as we strolled about, we saw many people dressed up as Superman walking around like it was the most natural thing!!! There was also a big Superman statue set up right outside the Metro Tent where the Kingsmen sang!

The concert started at six fifteen with an opening group called Cross Harmony. They sang for at least forty five minutes, doing some well known songs like the Booth Brothers‘ He Saw It All and other classics such as That’s Enough. While they were singing, it started raining really hard. Since we were in a tent that had open sides, when the wind blew the rain came in the sides of the tent and made its presence known to us! I felt sorry for the people who sat on the ends - they kept moving their folding chairs in further and further as the night went on! When the Kingsmen came on there was not a rain drop in site!

The Kingsmen gave a genuine and powerful performance even though the heat and humidity were oppressive and intensified after the rain. They put emotion and conviction into every song that they sang, it is obvious they believe in what they’re singing about! They started the evening with Good, Good God and went into When My Feet Touch The Streets Of Gold - (During this one, a lady came into the tent with two ice cream cones which Bryan and Ray noticed right away. They looked at each other and raised their eyebrows and whispered “ice cream” to each other. The audience got a chuckle out of that.) Third song was Sound From The Other Side. Harold did an outstanding job on Look For Me At Jesus’ Feet - They received a standing ovation for that one! The guys were really wound up, the crowd was really into the Kingsmen!

When they finished Look For Me Bryan introduced Harold. Since we were in a tent, there was this annoying pole right in the middle of the stage! Bryan made Huggy move out from behind the pole when he introduced him. When Bryan introduced Ray, he was shifting from side to side peeking around the pole from left to right just being silly. (That pole really was annoying!)

The next song was Getcha’ To The Other Side - Phil and Harold were hilarious on this one! At the end of the first verse, there are two staccato chords on the track, when they came to it Phil and Harold leaned into each other for each chord. On the turn around Bryan told Harold to do the Texas Two Step and Huggy did this little made up jig - I snapped a picture just in time to capture one of his moves! The guys sure know how to have fun on stage.

I’m pretty sure Cody’s piano solo was the old quartet classic Just A Little While. What I really like about Cody is that he changes up his solos. Saw him last Friday, and he played something entirely different. He’s pretty exceptional to watch!

The guys were totally wound up on When He Calls My Name - After the first encore, Ray went on singing the chorus again, but this time he was singing by himself. Bryan jokingly said, “I think that’s enough,” and took Ray’s mic away from him! After that, they had everyone sing Amazing Grace (congregational), followed by The Word - Bryan quoted John 1:1 before he sang his solo. I think that’s really neat that he does that, very rarely do I hear SGM artists quoting Scripture on stage.

Continuing on with Gospel Road, He Knows My Name, My Past Is Passed - (Phil sang this one with such conviction and passion it was just wonderful! I never get tired of hearing him sing this one!) - and Meet Me At The Table. They added to the set an old Kingsmen classic - He’s All I Need - which Huggy belted out with powerful emotion.

Their “closer” for the evening was Stand Up. Bryan engaged the audience by having everyone shout the “stand up” part every time they came to it. It was really cute because my grandma was with me and she is usually a very reserved person, but even she was shouting “stand up”!!! Of course, everyone was on their feet before the Kingsmen reached the first chorus! In the middle of the song, Bryan let the music play said, “Isn’t it great that we can get together at the Superman Celebration in Metropolis, IL and lift up the highest name of all, Jesus Christ?”!!! (When you really think about it - it’s not just everyday you see a Gospel Sing at a Superman Festival!)

To say the evening was awesome is an understatement! On the ride home my grandma said, “I just don’t know why those boys were so excited about singing in that heat”! That statement alone attests that they performed an excellent concert. It was hot and very humid - and even hotter under that tent, then add stage lights shining on you like heat lamps. The Kingsmen always give their best, no matter what the circumstances are! These guys are true professionals and certainly are deserving of Song of the Year b/c When God Ran has impacted so many and Album of the Year for being such a great project!

I just got home from seeing Brian Free & Assurance at Ridgeview Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN. Great show. Amazing!!!
They started the show off with the accapella "There Is a Kingdom Coming".
Such tight vocals, they truly are the best. Then they took off on "I Keep Lookin' Up". I can't remember the order during the middle, but they did "Just a Little Talk with Jesus", "Sheltered in the Arms of God", "I Believe God", "O What a Saviour" (and of course Brian brought the rafters down with it), "Die Another Day", "Worth It", "You Must Have Met Him", "Go Tell the World", "Praying Man", "Jesus Will Pick You Up" (Jeremy was on fire), "If It Takes a Valley", "For God So Loved", "What Will You Choose", "Amazing Grace", and of course closed the show out with an outstanding performance of "Long As I Got King Jesus".
Great show. Brian's testimony as usual is so powerful, and the group was really on thier game, sharp vocals, humor and energy.
The church was great too. It is not very big, only about 300 capacity, but it is layed out in the more modern fan style seats verses just the rows running straight back. We got there early and got to sit on row 3 about 15 feet from the stage. Very cool. Loved it. Can't wait to see theme again!!!!
Interestingly enough, they didn't mention Derrick's leaving. I guess they figure as long as he's there, no need to get into that on stage.

Last night we saw The Dove Brothers, Ivan Parker and The Hoppers at the Mull Singing in Sevierville.

Each was in great form and we loved it. I am still amazed how Ivan can sound like a whole choir. Ivan was humorous as his own MC and McCray Dove was his usual hilarious self.

We bought his two latest CDs and played them on the way home and today. Excellent.

I was surprised that the Dove Brothers were selling their CDs for $20.00 each, no specials on the newer ones. Most artists sell one for $15, two for $25, three for $35.00.

BFA had some good deals, but to buy ONE CD of theirs was 20.00 too.
This was the first concert that I had been to where single CD's were more than 15.00.
I guess the base price for CD's are going up!!!!

The Doves started selling CD's for that last fall... when they started selling their albums as digital downloads which only cost 10 or 15 dollars not sure which!!! I think you will see alot of groups going this way as CD's are becoming obsolete...

I think you are probably right. The really weird thing at the BFA concert was how many different projects they carry. Most of the concerts I have been to, carry the last 5 or 6 CDs. Unless I missed one, they had all of the BFA CDs going back into the late 90's when Randy Crawford was there.

I like the fact that BFA still carry their past CD's. To many groups today discontinue their past CD's if you ask me... I noticed on Zune Marketplace that you can download almost ALL of their Albums...(BFA)
