I have followed the kingsmen for a long time. They have a very solid and talented group now. They have had some great songs in the last 2 years and people loved When God Ran and the cloud he's coming back on. Those were very solid songs, so it makes you wonder if maybe there is politicking going on. Maybe we should demand a recount. Hey just thinking. I guess we should be glad that a certian group doesn't have a bass singer.

There is NO fair way to do it. Internet voting can be manipulated, as can phone voting. When the vote comes from one magazine's subscribers, that's a problem too. You can't even use concert attendance as a barometer, due to the varying venues and number of dates groups play.
You could take the charts combined with album sales, and maybe formulate that with some different criteria.
Maybe these awards should not be "Fan Awards" but "Industry Awards". Use several sources for a combined percentage of the vote. Kind of like the Major League Baseball "All-Star Vote"
1. SN or some combination of magazine vote
2. Southern Gospel radio vote
3. Labels get a vote
4. Current artists with songs in the top 100 over the last year vote
5. All members of the SGMA Hall of Fame.
Take all these and figure out a formula.

I feel your pain Bennett Fan, but some groups talk up the awards more then other groups do. By that I mean at thier concerts they talk it up more to thier fans about voting for them. The tenor winner bothered me more.
The Fan Awards have always bothered me. It seems that each year the winners become more predictable and so that leaves you to wonder who really has the voting power????? Just MHO
Also, since these are done by "fans", it seems that basically the group with the most fans wins, not the group that is the best.
I wonder how many people vote straight "party line" for their fav. group. I know back when I subscribed to SN, I did. I used to vote the Kingsmen in every category that they were in, regardless of what it was for.

The new Kingsmen project, Missing People, is top-notch as well. "God Saw A Cross" should be the group's next #1 song!
I'll be reviewing the CD in the coming weeks on my blog. It's shaping up to get a good review!

Why not fan's nominate five artist in each category? Then let DJs, musicians and peers decide the winners. Give every SGM DJ, SGM musician and SGM artist ONE vote in each category.
Ties broken by album sales.
That should mix things up and anyone winning can rightly claim their prize.

I have always been a huge Kingsmen fan and always will be. They are my favorite quartet and have been for a good 30 years. They are going to be with my quartet on 10/23/09 and we are looking foward to it. We have had the Dove Brothers the last 2 years but we were able to work it out this year where the Kingsmen could be with us. Come out and be with us if you can it will be in North Wilkesboro,NC.

Having had a few days to think on this I would like to address the fan awards and the "winners". I have followed SGM from the cradle and been to NQC many times in the past and been sitting there at the awards and watched as soooo many talented artists were passed over for the other guy. To point where I was so discouraged that I got up and left. I know this might not be appropriate but I have to get on my soap box about my own brother......Harold has been in SGM for over 20 years having started with Squire when he was just 18 and yet he has never won one single Singing News fan award. I know he is not the only one in this category but simple one I can speak on. Pictures as they say are worth a thousand words then video must be worth a million.......watch and listen and decide......

The Kingsmen have always had some of the best tenors that have ever been on stage. In my opinion Harrold is better now then he has ever been, maybe because he is getting to shine more. One reason I have always loved the kingsmen is because they are so down to earth. Could be because they still understand it is all about God. Sorry I have a habit of shooting straight.

You are absolutely right. God Saw a Cross is by far the best song on the CD and should be the next single release. If you can listen to that song and not feel something that lights your fire--your wood's wet!!

That's right DJS! The Kingsmen need to know how much we love them!
Yet, at the same time I get a little disgusted because, as so many of you already said, The Kingsmen’s last two projects along with the current line up has so much talent and quality - and they hardly get noticed by such things as the Fan Awards. I have heard all of the songs that made it in the top five for Song of the Year, and though they are all good songs, When God Ran was by far the best one out of all of them. (IMO) The one with the strongest message, the one that makes a difference when people hear it. As tenorsister said, the Fan Awards are becoming too predictable. (I can probably tell you right now who is going to win songwriter for next year!) LOL 
well if you mean Rodney Griffin--He wrote God Saw a Cross so I hope he does LOL
