Well it can't be Larry because he's a bass so I will go with the tenor for the Stamps ... Rick Strickland.

You got it!!!! Rick Strickland is the correct answer!!!

danny funderburk was a great tenor. maybe not in the kingsmen style. Danny sang with what many consider to be one of the best groups ever with mark trammell, glen payne, and george younce. He was definitely better than some of the tenors listed although all the tenors listed are good tenors. Ernie Haase probably falls somewhere in the middle of the tenors listed while danny would be near the top or at the top. Ernie was better earlier in his career. I think all the years of singing with the cathedrals took a toll on his voice. of the kingsmen tenors i liked ernie philips but that position has generally been a strong one for the kingsmen.

I've been a Kingsmen fan for many years. Most of the tenors you mentioned have been with them since Big Jim came to the group. I think Johnny Parrack, Ernie Phillips and Shep were my favorites. Ernie is with the Land Of The Sky Boys now. He has just as great voice now as then.. Jerry Martin is a better fit with the Dove Brothers. The last time I saw the boys I was really impressed with Harold Reed. He has improved greatly in his showmanship and vocals as a tenor . One Kingsmen tenor I really liked was Jerry Redd . He was an Irish tenor. To me Ernie Phillips is a higher and better sounding tenor than Ernie Hasse. Ernie Hasse is more of a lead singer.

sgsplfan - They are one group that is worth the drive!
We always have at least a two hour drive to go see them, and even in this economy, we don't hesistate. I have never left a Kingsmen concert and been disappointed. This is by far, our favorite line-up, though we've been fans for YEARS.
I hope they get up to Michigan soon!!!!

I agree! My wife and I drove to TN for the anniversary concert a couple of years ago. It was awesome! I finally was able to meet the best tenor out there, Ernie Philips. We had such a good time. I must admit, their current lineup is not my favorite (just my opinion, no hate mail please) but I would still like to see them again soon.

I agree, Ernie Philips is one of the best tenors out there; however, Huggy Bear is no sluggard - he is quite a powerhouse and some of the notes he hits can pierce your ear drums!
I'll bet the anniversary concert was GREAT! Can't believe I missed that one.
Your opinion of the current line-up may change the next time you have a chance to see them in concert ~ they really have their act together. Powerful, interactive, humorous and a great selection of songs.
(There's no hate mail among Kingsmen fans! LOL!!! Only appreciation!!! )

How about their latest single - The Word?
I was just saying to my family the other day, if SGM doesn't embrace that as a number one, we're in trouble. The words of that song are truth!

I LOVE THE WORD!!! I was so excited when I saw the Kingsmen back in June and they added it to their set! Nothing is like seeing them sing your favorite song live! You're right, if it doesn't go to number one - there is something wrong!!! It's been a while since I've heard such a great song about the Word of God on SGM radio. Certainly my favorite off of the When God Ran CD.
