This was just posted by my sister-n-law and Ed's Wife. Well, after a very long 24+hrs at the hospital, I am home but my sweetheart is still there. His pain could not be controlled...after much prayer and searching he opted to have surgery. The surgeon states a lot of scar tissue from previous surgery, a lot of degeneration and a large, old disc herniation. Ed is still very nauseated but his pain is better. Thanks for all the prayers, keep it up.

I just heard about Aaron. does anyone know what happened? I saw them on August 8 and there was no mention of Aaron leaving. The only announcement was that Josh was leaving. Gold City sounded really great and it seemed that everyone was enjoying themslves.

Thanks for your help, but I was referring to the last time they needed a bass singer to fill in--2006 when Bill Lawrence left. Tim filled in for several months. quote:
ORIGINAL: robertyork quote:
ORIGINAL: DrivenqtFan Is it true that they are traveling without a bass singer? If so, then why isn't Tim Riley filling in like he did last time? Tim didn't fill in for the bass singer at Mulls Singing recently, he just sang with the group. Their bass singer was there and was singing and it could be that Tim is doing all the singing he wants to do with the Southmen Quartet. Think Tim retired because he didn't want to be traveling so much.

When I saw Brian Free and Assurance at the end of June, they made no mention of Derrick Selph leaving either, and this was AFTER the press release on their website. I don't know if groups sometimes feel it might be a distraction to mention this stuff or what..

Yeah....it seems to have been just a sudden thing; especially since there was no prior mention of him leaving. As in "Aaron will stay until a replacement is found." It is more than just the usual "spend more time with the family" jazz that SG fans get told just about 9 times of 10 when some leaves a group. You defintely get the impression that something really weird happened.

He is not sure of the total down time but he knows the surgery worked and said thanks to everyone for their prayers.

My vote would be Christian Davis. He has the style to make it work. There are lots of other great basses that would work with other quartets, but not with the style and direction that GC has gone in the past few years. quote:

My first pick was Chris West as well, but like 1fan, I'm not sure he would want it. As much as I'd hate to see him leave Cross 4 Crowns, I think Justin Terry would be a great fit. Check out this video of him singing "Under Control." The guy is young, either 24 or 25, so he still has room to grow, and he fits the current sound and image of the group.

I don't think there's a shot in getting Jeff Chapman. He's got an awesome set up with the Kingdom Heirs. Plus, he's my favorite bass in my favorite group so I may be a little bias about him leaving.

Hmm... hadn't thought of Jeremy Lile. I think he fits Brian Free & Assurance better than GC. The Rileys have always had a knack for picking and cultivating good talent. It will be interesting to see what picks they make for bass and pianist.

With guys like Jeremy Lile, this would just be a lateral move at best. He is already with one of the top groups in the country, and fits in well there. Unless he is unhappy with the management of the group, I can't see a benefit to him. I'm sure both groups have similar travel schedules, so unless there is a problem or a money issue, I'd say Jeremy is staying put.
