I was listening to "Are You Ready?" yesterday and was blessed all over again. I think that is my favorite CD of that particular group, although the one with "You're at the Well" (can't remember the title and too lazy to go look at it) is probably second out of the ones I have. As far as CD prices, I do like to support the artists when I can but I don't have the funds to purchase all the CDs I'd like to at a concert. Most of the CDs I own have either been gifts or one I've gotten a really good deal on.

That's funny Sony.... I was listening to "Preparing The Way" (the title you couldn't remember) yesterday afternoon. There are so many good songs on that album! When it comes to cds, especially Gold City, I've made it a point to buy it directly from them. Whether at a concert or ordering it online. I want all the profits of the sale going to the guys. It's my favorite way of helping support them financially.

If everyone would do that then it would make it somewhat cheaper for the guys to operate. But some people just want to criticize instead of uplifting groups. I agree totally with your statement.

I was very surprised when I bought a Gold City album a couple of weeks ago that they had gone up to $20, but I'll still buy from the artists whenever I can.

I guess I am the odd man out. Nowadays I prefer to buy all my music digitally (itunes, crossroads music, etc). It is not specifically because it is cheaper but I enjoy the ease of downloading the album and putting it on my ipod and having it without the purchase of a CD case that I will just have to store away. Groups should start offering this on their websites. Most groups already have shopping available on their website, why couldn't they offer their albums in digital format. That way you would still be purchasing directly from the artist. It makes sense to me.

Even if it's just to say I have it! Plus, some of them are signed... You can't have that with digital files! I have some digital downloads of other artists... but for me, Gold City albums will still be bought in cd format.

Heard from a friend the other day that Gold City is going to be in Fort Oglethorpe on January 11th at Parkway Baptist Temple. Any of y'all planning to be there?

I'm hoping to rearrange my schedule to get back to town in time for that concert. I've seen Poet Voices, Southern Sounds Quartet, and Brian Free and Assurance at that church. Very pretty large church. Probably seats between 800 and 1000

If I had an iPod, maybe I'd get into it but I view my recordings as collectible and would much prefer the actual recording complete with photo, etc. I think I'm too old to keep up with technology anyway.

Gold City is currently singing as a trio, no bass singer and no piano player. Their bus driver is also having back problems. Praying that they get reorganized very soon and Ed can get back on the road.

I never saw this thread ... where has it been hiding since the last post was added in December 2008? Is there a STICKY feature in this forum software that could keep ARTIST threads towards the top of the forum?

Yes there have been some changes but let's evaluate. Johnathan was well over a year ago so that does not count. Steve has left, what has it been, a couple of months ago, weary from the road, and who would not be. I was scolded on another board for not granting Steve grace for climbing on board another bus, just as a fill in. And, recently the young pianist as left to go to school. And now Aaron. First I don't think it is fair to somehow connect all of these as if somehow Gold City is a tough group or Danial is a bad manager. Not that I have read that here but it would be an easy assumption, in the flesh. Secondly, perhaps Aaron has created a situation in his own life where maybe he needed to step down and Gold City is held hostage. I am not creating rumor but it is just as easy to assume that as it is to assume that Danial is a bad manager. Or maybe there was any number of other scenerio's in between those two extremes, it's just bad timing. The best thing right now is to lift up Gold City in our prayers. For a new bass singer soon. And for this ministry to get back on an even footing. There are lost people and hurting people that need to hear these men proclaim the gospel.

Is it true that they are traveling without a bass singer? If so, then why isn't Tim Riley filling in like he did last time?

Tim didn't fill in for the bass singer at Mulls Singing recently, he just sang with the group. Their bass singer was there and was singing and it could be that Tim is doing all the singing he wants to do with the Southmen Quartet. Think Tim retired because he didn't want to be traveling so much.

Gold City, a trio!!!!! yikes....that's scary. I hope all the fans who are going to concerts are made aware of this in the advertising. I'd be ticked if I dropped 20 bucks for a concert and it wasn't even the full group!!!! Why not just get a fill-in. It can't be that hard to find a temporary singer. Call Bill Lawrence up, see if he is up for a few weeks/months of travel.

We saw them as a trio last night and did not realize it would be a trio until we got there, although I had read that Aaron was leaving. They sounded fine musically. Obviously, they did not sings songs such as Under Control, which has a bass lead. They did I'm Not Giving Up, and they just omitted the deep bass echo part near the end of the song. It sounded okay. If you had not heard it before you would not have realized there was a bass part missing. I hope they find their new bass singer soon, so they can get back to business as usual. I did hear Bruce joke to a fan before the concert that if they do not find one they will just say (quoted loosely) Watch out Gerald. Here comes the Gold City Trio. Danny even joked at the start of the concert by asking if there were any bass singers in the house. There were no takers.
