Over the past few years, I have noticed some CCM originals being sung by Southern Gospel artists which is great. Which is your favorite? The original artist of each choice appear in parenthesis.

The only one I have heard is "I Can Only Imagine," and I don't care for it. The GC one sounds like I might like it, if I heard it!

I would vote for "I Can Only Imagine" but... I like it when Crossway does it best! (No offense to Ivan!)

I voted for I Can Only Imagine.

Never knew anyone but Ivan sung it until Ijoined these forums.

I voted for Mercy Came Running, but it was really tough choosing between that one and Orphans of God. Both songs have such powerful lyrics - love them!

I actually like "Crucified with Christ" the most by the booth brothers. But from the list I chose "Orphans of God."

Definately GC, Mercy Came Running.

Southern Gospel Music is my life. When the Contemporary / Praise & Worship started becoming extremely popular in the last few years.... to be honest... I shunned it away. I didn't wanna hear it, I didn't like it... just give me a good ole Southern Gospel Song anyday. But recently with Southern Gospel changing styles somewhat... I'm starting to open up to CCM / P&W more. Hearing groups like BFA, Gold City, Booth Brothers cross the line a lil bit, has helped be become more open 2 it. However, I still will never go buy an actual CCM / P&W CD, but if a Southern Gospel artist records it, I think I'd like it.

(Yea... so it's 2am... I'm at work... and that probably didn't make any sense.... but you get the picture. lol)

I'd pick one not from the list, the Ball Brothers' rendition of "Mercy Said No" (originally by Greg Long before he joined Avalon). Their rendition is better than the original.

I've not had the pleasure of hearing Scott do this one...though I'm sure if I had, his would be my favorite version. Scotty just can't sing a song the wrong way!

Scotty used to do it pretty often at the TQ concerts, but there are so many great Scott songs now he just can't do them all! It was on his first solo CD. BTW, Jamie, I heard your boys sing it on Saturday!!! I'll be sending you an e-mail tonite!!!

Yes, I do and it's wonderful. I wouldn't (and he doesn't) call it Southern Gospel. But he wrote all of the songs and he's just great on the album.

There are one or two songs that I don't like really well, but there are several more that I am crazy about. I can just see him maturing right in front of my eyes --- both spiritually and as a writer/performer.

My choice is none of the choices in the poll.....

I would say I like "Home Free" by Legacy Five (shock shock lol) Esp. the fact that Roger sang it. So fitting.

Good point. That tops all the other ones we've discussed in this thread. It was far superior to the original!
