I'm curious to know what other singles dream of, how do you go about reaching those dreams? What dreams have you achieved already and when do you say, maybe this has been my dream/desire and not the Lord's dream and desire for my life? Also, when do you let go of a dream? Do you and should you? Even can you? Mostly, I'm interested to know what other singles are dreaming of and what actions are you taking to bring your dreams to pass? Should we believe we make our dreams happen or does God give our dreams to us?

Hi Kanike and welcome!

My dreams...hmmm. Well one of my first dreams was to graduate from college, which i've done. Travel a little, i've done some of that too, but would love to do more.

My biggest dreams are to become a loving wife and mother. So far I haven't fulfilled those. I do pray for God to do it in His time. I know He will bring me what I need when He is ready.

I dream of Jeannie... (hey, someone had to say it!)

I fulfilled a huge dream this summer when I was able to give myself a dream vacation. I flew out west to visit an old friend in Arizona, and we were able to catch up on life while seeing Las Vegas (the family friendly part!), the Grand Canyon and rafting in Utah. I am in the process of working on another dream, getting my song lyrics I've written for over a decade published and copyrighted. Those are things that are in my control and dreams I should pursue.

Other dreams I have given up because they are things only God can give. I've left them between Him and I, for too long I didn't believe He would ever do it, then I had to repent and believe while letting my desires die and His live. (MAN that's hard to do, especially the ongoing part!)

A minute ago, I was talking to my daughter about going to Switzerland for my honeymoon. I asked her if she'd like to come. She asked me if I think she'd want to hang out with two old people? I said, it won't be when she's old, it'll be when I'm 45 or so. She said, wow, mom, you've got really big dreams. LOL. Isn't she hilarious? She's never seen me with a man before, so, I guess she's never thought that I still dream of finding a man and getting married someday.

So, I guess that's what i dream of--Getting married to the man of my dreams, and going to Switzerland to climb the Matterhorn, lol. And a few other things.....like going to Africa and work with World Vision. And also I'd like to live long enough to see my daughter get married to a godly man who'll treat her like a princess.

I dream of a time in my life without fear. Without constantly looking over my shoulder.

curling up in a blanket, on a balcony overlooking the beach (in lieu of a fireplace), preferably with someone. (don't think it'd ever happen, but this is dreaming, right?)

Meh. You are really nosy for your first post. Is this for some sort of research paper you are putting together? So you are burning with curiousity about the dreams of single people... why?

Thanks,

I dream of being one half of an old couple walking in the park holding hands. The ones where when young couples see us, they say how cute, I want that to be us one day.

This is going to sound silly, but I dream of my first kiss. It is something that I have kept ahold of for almost twenty years now and I can't wait to give it to the man I love with all of my heart one day!

I also dream of becoming a loving wife and mother, and following where God leads me to go!

angel in waiting, thank you for the warm welcome. One John, I've been coming to crosswalk for years and yes this may be my first post, maybe even my last. I hope not but as the Spirit leads. A research paper. No. Truth is, I was struggling all week with a broken heart due to longings unfilled. As you know, hope deferred makes the heart sick but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. Not just in my personal life but more so in not seeing answers to prayer in my own brothers life. My question was asked because I wanted and needed some honest answers. I praise God and thank everyone who took the time to share their answers with me. I am encouraged by all of the answers and the truth of them. Dreaming of Jeannie (ha), a first kiss, a husband, children, a white Christmas, climbing up the matterhorn, writing a book. Wonderful! I just threw the question out there because I needed to answer it for myself. There is the saying that no one can ask a question without first answering for themselves.

Blessings to everyone! Wonderful answers!

Kanike,
there's too much reality in life presently for me to address this one, and because of that, your many questions really set me off. I hope you have answered this main one for yourself. Did all of your other questions help you, if you did?

I may come back to this when there's more time for it. Right now I'm in a world where there's no time for dreaming.

In addition to being married and having a family, I've dreamed of traveling, trying a little missionary work, being a minister, being a writer, being a singer, going to undergrad and grad school, moving away from the mid-atlantic area. I've experienced/fulfilled a lot of these and it has been good. My main dream right now is to do what God wants me to do - to have a passion and a dream sent from him and to follow that. I was reading today about a guy who did just that - he was an activist in another country who championed the rights of oppressed workers. I've been reading his writings - he was so passionate about helping people. After many years, the workers were finally given equal pay, adequate housing, pensions, and the like. He ended up being an ambassador, but primarily he was a writer. He writings are full of passion and love for the people - it was awe inspiring and impacted me as I was riding home. I want to be like that - to hear what the Lord says to do and then do that.

I also have a few smaller dreams in addition to marriage and family. I guess, I see the dreams then pray about it and look for open doors and opportunities to bring it to pass.

I dream of finishing this degree and doing more than just basic private practice. I want to write and maybe do consulting work, traveling around the country and then vacationing around the world. I don't know what'll happen when I marry, but for now, that's my dream.

I always wanted to be a missionary, but I thought I'd have to move to Africa to do that. Hardly! One morning I woke up and realized I'm already a missionary, though I'm not able to share the gospel in so many words. But I like St. Frances of Assissi's words: Preach the gospel at all times, use words if necessary.

I was living my dream. I had a great family and church family. I was in ministry, in America and overseas. I had a great circle of friends. It all fell apart and I just had to stand by and watch it get taken from me.

I felt lost and like there was nobody who would show me where to go.

And then God led me to my current job at the other side of the country. Now my dreams have changed and I'm living a new dream. I enjoy every day though and I know God is using me to impact eternity and healing my heart. :) Who knows what the future holds?

The only thing certain in life is uncertainty. :)

Wow I am suprised that I have not heard one specific dream...taking into consideration this is a CHRISTIAN SITE.

I will be the first to say that I dream of someday having my own MINISTRY. I think it would fantastic and I would love to be able to travel around the world for the cause of Christ. I am single with no kids, so its easy for me to be able to do this considering Gods grace is upon me. I am still suprised no one has said this on a CHRISTIAN MESSAGEBOARD. (Maybe they are thinking it but dont want to reveal too much too soon). I will go ahead and be the first to put myself out there. I think most people here are nice and repsectful and dont tare peoples dreams down. Before this my dream was to go to school becasue I am the first in my family to do so. Now that this is almost complete, I have to move on to something bigger. I want to have the WORLDS BIGGEST HEALING MINISTRY. Yup I said it. I have had visions about it and everything. My role model is Joyce Meyer. I just love that lady. I love how inspite of controversy and critizism she stands and continues to move toward Gods will for her life. Beautiful and praise God for the grace that is upon her.

What I am currently doing to achieve this dream is that I am searching for theology schools to earn either a masters or a ph.d in. I would love to study the bible more indepth so that I am better equipped for this purpose. I think as Christians we need to dream BIG. BIGGER THAN BIG. GOd loves it and is honored when we trust Him with the impossible. I would love to see people get healed and come to Christ through their healing. Its one of my passions really.

I dont think that we should ever let go of our dreams, unless of course the do not come from the Lord. I do think that dreams like these have to come from God Himself. I mean He is the author of dreams. He makes them come to past in the end. If not then its not from Him. I think He has to first give you the dream in your heart, then He will lead you toward that dream. Its nice to dream with Him about the impossible...because lets face it with Him ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE> I really believe this with all my heart.

A good friend of mine always says that if your dream isn't impossible then it isn't from God. (Meaning if it's something you can accomplish easy by yourself then it isn't something where God can get the glory by showing up and doing a miracle.)

I guess that everybody's dreams would be different. If we all had the same dreams then the world would be rather boring and predictable. It takes all kinds to make a world.

We are all called into different things and have different gifts, so everyone's dreams, at least ministry or careerwise, would be different.
