I thought I would start a thread about Christmas CDs since the season is coming upon us.
I own
THe Hoppers-Glad Tidings
Jeff & Sheri- It feels Like Christmas Again
Mark Lowry-Mary Did You Know
Sandi Patty-Yultide Joy

Has anyone started listening to their Christmas CDs yet?

I've started listening! I had the idea to take all of my Christmas CDs and put them in one case so I could listen easier but I haven't done it yet.

So far I've listened to:

Sounds of the Season - Paid In Full
We Need a Little Christmas - Triumphant

I'll get a list of the rest of them and post again!!

So far, I have 1,515 Christmas songs (of many genres) on my iPod.... so that's a lot to go through.

I'll have to sit down and figure out which ones are SG artists though. There's so many!

Coincidentally, I have 24 Christmas CDs by Southern Gospel artists and 24 Christmas CDs by non-SG artists.

This was from iTunes (all my CDs are on iTunes), and I didn't look at cassettes or albums. The balance would be weighted to non-SG if those were included.

Bad thing is, there are only a handful that I will listen too. Most of them just don't appeal to me.

This was a great idea, hopperfan. Now I've gotten most of mine collected and am going to be able to listen easier!! I've got:

Paid In Full - Sounds of the Season
Triumphant - We Need a Little Christmas
Christmas Time
Our Gift to You - Jeff and David (piano and harmonica)
Sharing, The Christmas album - Jeff Stice
Greater Vision - A Greater Vision Christmas
My Kind of Christmas - Gerald
Gaither - Christmas in South Africa and Homecoming Christmas
Christmas, Gaither Vocal Band Style
Booth Brothers - Christmas with the Booth Brothers
Kingdom Heirs - White Christmas
Stan Whitmire - A Piano Christmas
Garry Jones - Christmas Reflections
Josh Groban - Noel ---- I know this isn't Southern Gospel but it's an absolutely BEAUTIFUL album and I would very, very highly recommend it.

My top two favorites are We Need a Little Christmas (Triumphant) and Sounds of the Season (Paid In Full). The Paid In Full album was from a live concert and has a really neat ending with a narrative and then a solo, a capella verse of Silent Night.

Thanks Dinana! Paid In Full's Cd sounds really neat! I'll have to check both of them out.

This took me a while!

I have...

Christmas - Back Home in Indiana (Bill Gaither Trio)
Christmas (BFA)
A Cathedral Christmas A Capella
Christmas With the Chuck Wagon Gang
Christmas in Kosovo (Collingsworth Family)
Christmas in Dixie - Dixie Echoes Band
Tis the Season - Dixie Melody Boys
Celebration Time - Ernie Haase
Christmas with EHSS
My Kind of Christmas - Gerald Wolfe
Home for the Holidays - Gold City
A Gold City Christmas
A Greater Vision Christmas - Greater Vision
This Night (Hope's Call)
A Little Christmas (Legacy Five)
December: Hymns Where the Story Began (Mercy's Well)
Christmas Time (Triumphant)
We Need a Little Christmas (Triumphant)
A Classic Canaan Christmas (Various)

Something that's true across many genres is unfortunately true here - that even if an artist goes all-out to produce a couple of excellent tracks, they generally don't put the same level of effort into a Christmas project as they do into their mainline releases. Of all the ones I have, probably Greater Vision's and (surprisingly) the Dixie Melody Boys' 1997 project are the two most in line with a group's typical production quality.

But—oddly—the best SG Christmas project I have is Steve Green's 1987 Joy to the World.

I know the feeling! I don't know Josh's voice/style, but I just had to list Steve Green, since his Christmas LP is probably the best SG Christmas album I've heard even though it wasn't SG when it was recorded.
