I came up with this idea while reading the other U2 thread that I started. There are a handful of U2 songs that get tons and tons of airplay. In fact they are over saturated and I just about yawn every time that I hear them!

So without further ado here is my incomplete/partial list of U2 songs that I would like to hear on the radio:

  • Stuck In A Moment
  • Gloria
  • Two Hearts Beat As One
  • A Sort of Homecoming (Live)
  • Bad (this one actually gets some airplay where I live, but it would be nice to hear it more though.)
  • When The Stars Turn Blue (Bono with the Corrs.)
  • Numb
  • Even Better Than The Real Thing
  • Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses?
  • Red Hill Mining Town
  • One Tree Hill

Various deep tracks from Rattle and Hum not limited to but including:

  • Hawkmoon 269
  • All I Want Is You

That is my preliminary list. How about you, what songs would you like to hear on the radio more?

Yahweh (but of course it won't, the name of Yahweh is too offensive)
Tomorrow (but of course it won't, it sings about Jesus returning, and that is too offensive)
    Grace
    Gloria
    A Man And A Woman
    Red Hill Mining Town
If God Will Send His Angels
    Sweetest Thing
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (yes, I still like this song from Batman Forever)

Ok, so I will cut my list short and just say, "Any song that is currently not played a lot"

"Even Better Than The Real Thing" WAS played on the radio a lot in the early 90s and is far and way one of their coolest singles.

Other songs by U2 I really like:

    "Kite"
    "Wild Honey"
    "Do You Feel Loved?"
    "Gone"
    "Silver and Gold"
    "God, Part 2"
    "Angel of Harlem"
    "Desire"
    "The Fly"
    "One"
"Until the End of the World"
    "Bullet the Blue Sky"
    "One Tree Hill"
    "New Year's Day"
"Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me"

In my opinion, Achtung Baby is their peak and they've never really come close to topping it with something that manages to be fresh and creative, yet contemporary and catchy. Since then, they've struggled with meeting that criteria (for me anyway). I do like to listen to Pop because it comes off as their most confessional and human recording, even with all the ambient/techno riff-raff. It just lacks strong melodies. Then there's All That You Can't Leave Behind, which was strong melodically for the most part despite Bono's weak voice ("Beautiful Day" is way overrated though). It helped them gain back some of the audience they had lost with the more experimental records they previously released. How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb had some OK moments, but was largely disappointing to me. This new one hasn't really blown me away either, but it's an improvement over the complacent, safe sound of Atomic Bomb.

4.15 Bradford Executive by Allan Holdsworth. Oops, wrong topic. I thought it said songs that have never been played on the radio but I wish I heard on the radio.
