I am researching a good study on the American Government & US Constitution. Is anyone familiar with National Center for Constitutional Studies? They have a study course on DVD that uses the book The 5000 Year Leap as its text. Anyone familiar with this?

My son who has studied the Constitution was not familiar with this organization so we did some research. We very quickly learned that the text book (5000 Year Leap) was authored by a devout Mormon and reading the background of people involved in the NCCS it is a Mormon based organization. Book reviews mention that this book was written from a Mormon theology perspective.

There's some repackaged Mormon teaching going around in Christendom that marriage is eternal and women will be eternally subordinate to their earthly husbands. So beware, there are some home school factions out there that might be okey-dokey with Mormon perspectives on things. Personally unless it has gotten rave reviews from personal friends, I would probably go with something I knew would be compatible with my understanding of God's Word.

That is a shame. I was very excited about the course. I should have known it was Mormon since Glen Beck endorses it. I bought the book and it seemed very good. It doesn't reference Morman beliefs. It appears to be Christian but I guess I will keep looking.

In the end only you can be the judge, but after reading my earlier post, I want to retract it! I actually use a lot of texts that were not written by Christians, for history, math, science, literature. I like it when I can find a good Christian resource, but there is so much good out there! And on the other hand, just because it's Christian doesn't mean it's a good resource. So I guess I will change my advice to the old Oklahoma proverb: Have as much sense as an old cow, eat the hay and leave the sticks.
