So I heard an interesting conversation/argument today. A few friends and I were at lunch and were talking about a concert we're going to next Saturday (Greater Vision!). The topic of pictures came up, as in asking to take a picture with an artist, and one of my friends said that she didn't think it was appropriate to take pictures with someone in a church, but that she thought it was fine in, say, an arena, like a Gaither show. I'd never seen a problem with it before, but I wanted to know what you all thought! I don't ever want to be accidentally inappropriate and offend someone! :] Thanks guys! Robin

I have taken many pictures of artists when they were in concert at a church location. I would not take one when a invitation was being given, but all other times it should be OK, unless they tell you at the start no picture taking.

I've taken plenty of pictures in a church during a concert.

If there is any question, I typically ask the group and/or the host church's pastor (especially if it's during a regular service, rather than a special event of its own). I don't believe I've yet had a pastor / group tell me they'd rather not.

Never had any problems with it either. In fact, we encourage folks to take pics when we have groups come out to our church. Just like 1970rodney said...we are picture crazy!

I think one or two photos early on in a concert setting, or during a 'lighter' moment is OK. When the service starts getting more serious - like leading up to an invitation - reset the camera so that you can take pictures without the flash. This is just NOT the time or place for the paparazzi-like flash displays! I am especially aggravated when photographers are CONSTANTLY roaming the sanctuary -especially standing in front of the seated guests- and using a flash EVERY time throughout the ENTIRE service. That is is just rude, disrespectful and in poor taste. Now, afterwards - say, at the product table, or even in the sanctuary - I say capture and make as many memories as possible!

I've taken pictures of( and with) pastors, evangelists, and missionaries at church. I also do the same with SG artists. I see no difference!

When I take pictures in Church I usually try to take them during the first two or three songs. I like to do it that way so not to disturb the service as it progresses. Only on rare or special occasions do I take them later in the service. I think after the invitation when the group is called back to do their last song it would also be an appropriate time to take photos. They usually do one of their fast upbeat songs at that time.

I would never see any problems whatsoever with taking pictures in a church, in an auditorium, or whatever, just as long as it would not be during the altar call or similar moment. Like has been said, that would seem to be common sense. Otherwise, to me it's fair game. I'm a pastor and I wouldn't have any problem with it whatsoever.

All of the churches I have been to for concerts have encouraged pictures so I do not think it would be a problem. Also, many churches videotape their services and many people take pictures at baptisms. If that is okay, then what is wrong with taking pictures at concerts at a church? Nothing as far as I can see.

That's exactly what I was thinking, many people take pictures at baptisms. They also take pictures at weddings. As long as people use common sense and do it at the appropriate time and don't distract by constantly flashing flash bulbs or get in peoples way, I don't see a problem.
