wow...it is a shock for me. I thought (and still do) think he is one of the best pianists in the industry. Not only a great pianist, but a friendly person everytime i had the chance to talk with him.

The Perrys are in the middle of a three week trip, so I don't think Matt has actually left yet. I think this is his last week. I was told he is going to be Minister of Music at a church. It is understandable for a father with a brand new baby to want to come off the road. I heard that Troy will fill in until another pianist is hired. Although it would be okay with me if he moves to piano permanently, and let JK run the sound.

These long trips have been hard on Matt and Lindsey, having a young baby can certainly change your perspective on a lot of things and missing weeks out of your infant's life is definitely something everyone has to admit isn't easy. He was at a church before so it is certainly something he's familiar with too.

quote:
ORIGINAL: Smokymtnsanta I understood JK and Troy were sharing the sound duties. And Troy was doing a lot of the driving for the Perrys. Could be wrong though. Troy has been sharing the driving with Tracy, and also teaching JK how to do sound. JK does do the product.

I have to admit this made me sad, I love Matt as a wonderful Christian guy who is extremely talented but also as the one person I've heard that had the 'Anthony Burger touch' to his playing. A part of Anthony always seemed alive to me when I heard Matt play. And because I loved Anthony this was a huge blessing! But I wish Matt, Lindsey and Fletcher the best. While Matt will be missed, doing what is right for his family is something every man should do. I hope that some day the opportunity comes along to see you back on the stage. And I know that the Perrys will put another great talent out there as they always do. I'm sure the first few times I see them post-Matt, it may be through a few tears as we say good-bye to the past but I know that they will continue to thrive and bless hearts as this change takes place. I love them and look forward to what the future holds and to hearing them many, many more times in the future!!!!

I wish Matthew well. I enjoyed him the one time I saw The Perrys live.

I was told Friday night at Songfest that the Perrys were going to be there Saturday night, and after that date, Matt was heading home to be with his wife and baby. It is a shock that he is leaving, he is a great pianist.

I'm glad he is going to be there one more weekend. Yet another reason I'm glad we are going to the MTT homecoming!

As stated in the press release Matthew will remain with the group thru July 27. After that he has some band camps, but may try to fill in on days that he is off.

Following the departure announcement our reporter (Chuck Peters)SG SHOWPREP caught up with Matthew for a short interview. Chuck Peters (CP): How long have you been with the Perrys? Matthew Holt (MH): September 9th would have been 4 years. CP: What would you say has been the best part of those years? MH: Everything! I got to live my dream,.. and I got to enjoy it with the greatest group in the world. To say that I will miss them would be an understatement. Tracy, Libbi, Joseph, Jared, Nick, and Troy(since December) have been my 2nd family.. and always will be as far as I'm concerned. My relationship with each one of them goes way deeper than just Gospel music. I am very excited about being able to spend more time with Lindsey and Fletcher,.. it's bittersweet, though. I have to leave my second family in order to do that. I love them very much. I will never be able to repay Tracy and Libbi for the opportunity they gave me. CP: Will your new position keep you active,.. at all.. in Southern Gospel music? MH: I hope so. I will find a way to stay active. Actually, the Renaissance program at Bethel College has a Southern Gospel Quartet that they showcase a lot. I will have the privilege of working with them. I'm hoping to use the gifts that God has blessed me with to instruct and encourage young students looking to use their talents for Him. It's going to take some time to adjust. I hope that I will grow musically and spiritually at Bethel College. CP: Will you continue to write with Joseph Habedank? MH: Absolutely! We have had several extensive talks about the future of our writing and the future of our publishing company,.. HabeHolt Music. We feel the Lord has had His hand on our endeavors from day one. It's an honor to be able to write Christian music,.. and an even bigger honor to do so with my best friend. We're going to meet at least once a month to write and discuss what little business there is to handle. CP: Ever see yourself in a full time SG group again,.. or any fulltime touring ministry? MH: Whatever God has in store for me is up to Him. I certainly hope so, though. I look at anything I do as a ministry,.. I'm hoping that the Love of God will be displayed through my teaching. I would love to play full time southern gospel music again,.. one day.. after the kids are grown! CP: Matthew.. What do you say to your fans? MH: Thank you.. thank you,.. thank you! Words cannot express how much I appreciate the love and support I've found from Southern Gospel fans. Although I was only with the Perrys four years,.. the fans made me feel as If I'd been there forever. I will never forget your faces, smiles and words of encouragement. I will miss you all!

That was a great interview! I just read that one, and also the comments from Tracy and from Daywind, in a couple of different articles here: http://southerngospelreporter.com/ I think the Perrys and Matthew Holt are class acts, and it was good to read the real story which put to rest a lot of speculation. Good to "see" you, Libbi!

From Perrys newsletter: Well, I guess by now many of you have heard about Matthew Holt, our piano player leaving the [See the attached file]group. This weekend will be his last weekend with us. We sure hate to see him go, but totally understand wanting to be home more with his new baby Fletcher and wife Lindsey. Matthew got a great job at Bethel College in McKenzie, TN where he lives as Assistant Director of their Renaissance Music Program. Bethel’s “performance troupe” uses choirs, ensembles and soloists to showcase the talents of Bethel students. The group performs a wide range of musical styles.. including: bluegrass to jazz, show tunes to "doo-wop" and the best-loved songs of faith, both traditional and contemporary. As you can well tell, God has changed Matthew's direction, but not his goals. This is a great opportunity for Matthew and we are so proud of him and fully support his decision. This job actually came available 2 years ago before Matthew got married and he turned it down. Matthew has been like a son (as well as the other guys in our group) to Tracy and I and we are gonna miss him so much, but we wish him nothing but the best and pray God will bless him abundantly! We are in the process of trying out several guys for the piano position and we hope to name a replacement within a few days. Pray that we will choose the person God wants to be here.
