We had a great poll going on your favorite CCM song borrowed by a Southern Gospel artist. So many people named other choices in the thread that I thought an expanded poll would be pretty interesting. Here you go!

My vote and #1 choice was Home Free. #2 Mercy Said No - Ball Brothers #3 Shine On Us - Collingsworth Family #4 Orphans of God - Talley Trio I came out of CCM a couple of years ago, so I heard most of the originals. Several of the songs on the list were okay in their original, but <gasp>I felt the SG rendition didn't quite measure up to the original. </gasp>

"Mercy Came Running" by GC. Nod to "I Can Only Imagine" and "Crucified With Christ." Did Crossway record "I Can Only Imagine?"

I think they've toyed with the idea. It's just a matter of if they make it happen or not. They do it in nearly every concert though... with just Matt playing the guitar. Very pretty.

I voted for Gold City's version of "Mercy Came Running". I did not really care for it when it first came out and someone in my church started singing it (to the Phillips, Craig, and Dean soundtrack), but I love Gold City's version. Honorable mention to Legacy Five's "Home Free" and Ivan Parker's "I Can Only Imagine".

I voted I Can Only Imagineby Ivan Parker but Crucified with Christ by the Booth Brothers is a VERY close 2nd. But when you get right down to it I like them all. When it's a great song it's a great song whether a CCM artist or an SG artist does it first.

"Orphans Of God" was my first choice. "Mercy Came Running" would have been number two. I never was all that crazy about "Home Free" as a song when Wayne Watson introduced it. It worked great with Roger Bennett singing it, though, especially with the audience knowing he was going through a trial at the time.

I was kind of dreading hearing Roger's rendition, anticipating disliking that, too, but I suddenly found myself really liking it.

This was hard. Being a L5 fan, I wanted to pick "Home Free". But I didn't. I think "I Can Only Imagine" is one of the best song ever penned, but it is over-done. (And very badly at times) So I didn't pick that one either. I had to go with "Arise My Love" by the Imperials. They preformed this song just as good, if not better then the original artist.
