Real butter (organic when I can get it) because we feel it is better for us. We do try to use it moderately though.

I quit using margerine at least ten years ago and only buy butter - unsalted butter - and use it any time I want it rather than olive oil or peanut oil.

Only real butter here, haven't bought margarine in a couple of years at least. Use stick butter for baking and LoL spreadable butter with olive oil for grilled cheeses, toast, veggies, etc.

I use the store brand spread in a tub most of the time I need something with the taste and consistency of butter because my daughter is highly allergic to dairy products and this particular spread is milk-free. In cooking, I use canola or safflower oil, or sometimes olive oil if it can be successfully substituted for butter in the recipe. I keep real butter for things that my daughter is not going to be eating anyway.

I'm from Wisconsin and everyone here knows margerine is from the devil.

My mom told me they didn't allow the sale here until pretty far into the '60s. People had to go to the border and buy it in Illinois. It came with little capsules to color it.

So no, I never buy it. Butter only. Unsalted.

I buy what is the cheapest, margarine or butter. We rarely use it, so a medium tub will last a month or more.

But, for baking I buy unsalted butter in bulk and freeze it.

I use a dairy free sunflower spread or butter. I've made a spread before by blended just melted butter and olive oil together.

I buy butter. Usually creamery butter, since I find you taste more butterishness in smaller amounts, so then you eat smaller amounts. I like butter.

Only the real stuff! I use lightly salted for spreading and unsalted for cooking and baking.

Another real butter user here, too -- except when making pie crusts, then I use crisco shortening. *gasp*

I use butter except for making cookies. Then I use 80% margarine. I've found that if you use less than 80% margarine it messes up the cookies. If I couldn't find that anywhere (which can be hard: only one place around here has it) I would use butter. I mostly only bake for Christmas and am making lots of cookies.

We use butter usually unsalted; margarine makes me ill. Which reminds me I need to get some thawing so I can make pie crust tomorrow.

Real butter! Clearly Organic is the brand I usually buy. Or make my own from the cream I pick up at the dairy.

I remember going to my grandmother's and helping her churn butter when I was a child. They had several milk cows and she sold her homemade butter to a local grocery store. It was so much better than the butter that is produced commercially.

If I can get heavy cream at half the price of butter per oz, I would make butter too.

I use salted butter but sparingly when I can't get away from it. I use canola oil or olive oil when it's called for, but sparingly. I eat baked potatoes with salt and just vinegar and salt on salads.

Yes, I am slowly losing weight. I miss butter but my food still tastes pretty good.

I am alarmed by what is in margarine. I heard a fitness guru say to not eat anything that didn't grow in the ground or didn't have a mother, and that makes sense to me.

Mostly we use butter. I go to the Health Food store to buy Ghee, which is clarified butter. It's healthier because they take the fat out. You can make your own but I think it's a big waste of time to do it. Plus you waste the other part. If I have to spend all that time and money trying to make it, I don't want to waste any. If they do, that's on them. Nobody but our Health Food store sells it. It's wonderful on popcorn and veggies and pasta but not on toast or bread. At least I don't like it on toast and bread. I also love it in my scrambled eggs.

Because butter is usually more expensive than margarine, we buy margarine to bake with unless it specifies butter, then we will use butter. In preschool they made butter in a jar and when nobody wanted to take it home, I did. It was really good! I wish I knew how they did that because I would like to try it.

My grandma did that, too but she didn't sell it...they lived on a working farm so it was used as she made it. And it was wayyyy better than what is found in most grocery stores.

I still have her old butter putter

I'm with Auben. Although I do know that margerine is NOT from the devil, I wouldn't touch it with a stick. And I do have some old bottles of butter color as I used to collect all kinds of dairy related items.

Growing up we used butter. Then my brother, in his wisdom, convinced my parents they needed to switch to margerine. So they did. Then he went to medical school and came back and convinced them of the evils of margarine. So they switched back to butter. Being so smart is sometimes a pain. . . to others.

We use the real thing--butter. I do use a spread for toast and a few things, but I try to get the ones made from butter, not margarine.
