Some of the best:

  • Heaven-Salvador

  • Lean on Me-Club Nouveau

  • Make It Right-Kenny Marks

  • Listen To Your Heart-DHT

  • Heaven-Sammy DJ

  • I Want To Know What Love Is-Mariah Carey

  • La Bamba-Los Lobos

  • Mad World-Gary Jules

  • Love Song-311

  • Smooth Criminal-Alien Ant Farm

  • Happy Days (song remade in the 90's, I do not know who recorded it though.)

Now here were some not so good ones:

  • Play That Funky Music-Vanilla Ice

  • Leader of the Pack-Twisted Sister

  • Don't Cry For Me Argentina-Madonna

    Both are pretty much forgotten.

Which ones both good and bad can you think of?

I love the Lemonhead's cover of Mrs. Robinson that was done back in the early 90s.

Also, nobody does Mad World better than Adam Lambert.

Funny you should mention them. Before they were big, my downstairs neighbor was actually managing them, go figure.

I don't remember hearing that one before.Does it sound worse than the original Guns and Roses version? I think that band would improve itself if they got Sheryl Crow for the lead singer.

Sweet Dreams was OK, but I've never heard anyone do anything cool with Personal Jesus, or How Soon is Now for that matter. I actually have that Snake River Record...one thing they did do well was that song "You and Your Friends". I forgot who originally recorded it...I think they were called Fight, or something. Snake River are atrocious in a live setting though.

That's a good one and I can't believe I forgot it, while remembering to comment on Britney's version.

    Yeah...

Actually, just because it's soooo quirky, and I personally despise remakes, that sound exactly like the original(the remake of Supertramp's 'Give a Little Bit' comes to mind), I actually do like it.

    Yeah, I can't imagine how they'd sound live. I'm sure they're terrible.

I would like to hear someone do a country version of Led Zepplin's Going to California, I can actually play the version out in my head, complete with Johnny Cash style muted strings.
But, that's a thread I'd like to start(sadly my threads die a quick death): Rock songs that could be remade as Country songs, and vice versa-Call it "a little bit country, a little bit..." well, you know the rest

D.C. Talk did an out-standing job of the re-make of "Lean On Me" by Bill Withers.

Guns & Roses did an awesome job on the remake of the song "Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney.

The other day I heard this terrible remake of "Kiss Him Good-bye (Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey) by Steam. Don't know who did the remake of it, but it was horrible! I hated how they had the drums changed to a standard 'kick-snare, kick-srare' when the song calls for a sixteenth-note percussion as in the original. And the bass and drums were out of sync in parts as well.

That's all I can think of off the top of me head fer now. Maybe more later.

The 80's Na, Na, Na song must have been that one by the Nylons.

I agree that both DC Talk and GnR did excellent remakes as well. And speaking of Guns & Roses, I really liked their 50's remake "If I Can't Have You" also.

Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Guns & Roses
Mr. Tambourine Man - The Byrds
Turn, Turn, Turn - The Byrds cover Solomon
    America - Yes
    Rodeo - ELP
Fanfare for the Common Man - ELP

    I have a bootleg Tull concert where they do a 10 minute Beethoven's 9th.

Bad: There was a disco version of Stairway to Heaven that should have been outlawed. I never knew who did it.

I never liked Earth, Wind, & Fire's "Gotta Get You Into My Life" either.

Btw. It's obviously a new re-make sung by a female.
