hello all. i started this in "Women Only", but only got a few responses, so I'm reposting in here to see if I can get more. There are a couple of things i'm asking

1 - PRAYER!

2 - Ideas & Input...

I've been praying about ways to minister to the women at my church. Without going in to much detail, our women's ministry leader stepped down several months ago (it was her time to step down, nothing bad, etc., just her time to move on) and since then, it's been a struggle for the women to stay connected, etc.

So, I've been praying about a way for me to personally minister. I've been praying A LOT and have a few ideas, but thought I'd gather some ideas from you all! From practical ways to a way to keep regular contact among the women despite crazy schedules and working moms.

I've also approached the Elder board and they will be having a planning meeting in a week and will discuss the opportunity for me to head up a WM. I'm barely 28, so I don't expect to formally preach/teach/lead, but I have oodles of time (I quit my second job) and will be able to devote tons of time to plan things/invest in women/etc. From what I gather, there should be no problem in their approving this, but it does need to be covered in prayer and they need to be 100% in agreement.

Sooo...that's why I ask for prayer and ideas!! Any input is greatly appreciated!!

Sounds good, but I think you should reconsider why being under 30 makes you consider yourself inept to be a true leader/teacher.

Many pastors of Churches start out at that age, preach to whole congregations, and do just fine. If you want to be a co-ordinator and helper, a facilitator of fellowship and communication -- that's a fine objective and an essential role... But a holistic ministry needs a leader who leads, is respected, is involved, and has something of the Word of life to hold out to those she shepherds. Otherwise, there is no sense in calling such a crew a ministry at all. (*** I'm really really not trying to undervalue the function of spiritual fellowship groups... just hoping that if that's what it is, it's called what it is, so that the leaders are not under the misunderstanding that complete ministry is occurring, so that they will be sure to continue to attend to their womenfolk in a pro-active way. ***)

So, I'd say you either need a partner or two (someone with teaching skills and a good grip on the Word, but little time to prepare events, someone who connects well, seems to know everyone, and offers good solid counsel and insight, or who draws others into the desire to live closer with Jesus)... Or else you need a bit of a confidence boost. I know of no one who is in the Word and in prayer daily that lacks the ability to say something coherent and valuable out of that wealth of experience. I see many more people (especially women) who have such thoughts and keep them to themselves because they don't feel worthy, or are embarrassed to make a mistake if they sit down to guide people in exploring Scripture.

Similarly, if you know the women, and they know you, and you are a respectable person, it won't take much beyond the elders approval for them to come to respect your leadership, take up your values regarding spiritual life, and follow your lead. It's a great responsibility, but I don't think God would call you if He didn't intend to equip you. And if (I do mean IF, I don't know if He's calling you or not.) but if He is, trying to be a leader-as-called and having a few flops is still much more faithful than deciding not to take up the call from this first point. I think some of the fear comes from only knowing one leadership model... hopefully you will come to know your own leadership style.

I am a guy...(and I know here that really doesn't matter)...

Ideas and input? That I can give you. Our church has a spectacular ministry for women (and men, as well)...and for everyone else, for that matter....

I just invite you to take a look around our women's ministry website (and those of other churches)....you'll be sure to get plenty of ideas and input (even e-mail a few Women's Ministry Leaders....when you find them on websites...and ask for suggestions)...

as for our church...here's the link....

you'll do just fine....

Thank you to both of you for your input...

A few things I've been praying for are a couple of women (older, more mature in their walk) to partner with. I'm close the all of the Elder's wives, and that's where I will begin seeking counsel and prayer.

It's not that I feel I shouldn't teach ever, but more that I know there are others who are much more knowledgable and would be a better teacher...not that I couldn't, but teaching is not my gift like it is for others. So, bolt...your suggestion of partnering with someone who can teach, but not available to plan, coordinate, etc., is my hope!

I've looked through websites and will continue to do so...I love the idea of having women contribute to a prayer calendar...that's a good, practical idea that I could tweak - thank you for the website link, Ron!

I am a guy to, but here is somthing that I have seen work very well that gets all wemon involved in the church. Start a group and give it a name where you can get the community involved.

Like: Wemon of Purpose, are somthing like that and then set a goal to reach younger wemon, etc.
Many wemon (girls) think there are not worthy of God, and outreach programs really work.

I am a pastor and I have seen lives changed with this type of outreach. Here is a song of a Woman who thought just that: www.youtube.com /search=Wendy Dove. Songs name forgiven its a demo but very powerful in the second part when Christ sings back His answer and your free to use it.

God Bless
R Dove
